31 years ago this week we were blessed with the release of ‘Hand On Your Heart’ - one of my favourite PWL singles.

It was Kylie’s 3rd UK #1 and after being held off the top spot by The Bangles ‘Eternal Flame’ it managed to overtake them in week 2. It was unlucky not to spend more than 1 week at the top as it held on to the #2 position for 3 weeks in total.

What’s everyone’s thoughts on this song? A Kylie classic? Or one that should remain in the vaults?

I have vivid memories of its chart run and so delighted when it went number 1. I only recently discovered here in the forum that it would have also made a number 1 debut if there hadnt been a mess up with discounted sales that some shops sold before they were meant to. Hand on your heart is one of the few Kylie songs i dont really enjoy live, the live versions always lack something for me but i do like the song.

One of Kylie's more deserving Number 1 singles.

Kylie had a habit of peaking at number 2 with some of her best work.

Hand On Your Heart, is fun, memorable and camp.

I still enjoy it from time to time, I listen to other songs from time more though such as never too late, enjoy yourself and I'm over dreaming over you.

Total skip for me, I liked it as a kid but now never play it

Understand that, I think HOYH is also a bit of a nostalgia trip for me that’s why I still love it, I remember being bought the 7” vinyl for my birthday and being ecstatic

I prefer many other Kylie singles but equally dislike many others to it.

It's a Kylie classic in its own way and is well known for Kylie.

32 years ago (:drama:) this week Kylie released her second UK single ‘Got To Be Certain’ - Kylie mania was reaching a high point following on from ‘I Should Be So Lucky’ spending 5 weeks at #1.

It’s became the first of 11 singles to peak at #2 in the UK and was held off the top spot for 3 weeks by the Childline charity single ‘A Little Help From My Friends’

Not a song I listen to a lot now but it’s pure classic Kylie

Anti Tour

I've combined the 'Hand On Your Heart' and 'Got To Be Certain' threads together so that we can keep all these mini anniversaries in one place, much like the thread in the Spice Girls forum: http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=205184 We can update the thread title accordingly.

It just helps keep the forum tidy. We can have separate threads for the big anniversaries like 20, 25, 30 etc. which I already have a record of when the time comes.

'Got To Be Certain' didn't really have much effect on me to begin with, much like a lot of her 80s music. It's since grown into one of my favourites from this period! It's so cheerful and breezy, a lot more relaxed than 'I Should Be So Lucky' which has a more frantic rhythm.

Unfortunate to be stuck at #2 for three weeks but, going by Gezza's estimates, it wasn't unlucky in the sense of having particularly big sales that would have seen it #1 in any other week. An estimated 4k separated Wet Wet Wet and Kylie on its third week at #2, but that's only because Wet Wet Wet had decreased in sales drastically.

Liked got to be certain from the start and still do. Kylie ignored it for a long long time but has acknowledged it more in more recent times.
Not a fan of GTBC but HOYH I still enjoy.
GTBC was perfect for Kylie. It makes you worry about her because you don't wanna see her hurt. When Mandy Smith sang GTBC, you thought, better be sure Mandy but I don't care if you get your heart broken or not.
This is the one single I have such a massive soft spot for out of the early part of her career (pre-Rhythm of Love). Love it so much.

Ya I still have a soft spot for it, i loved when she added it into her medley. I love the cover for the single aswell.

Great stuff - Thanks :) Never seen the SP one before - great idea.

It's a shame so many great kylie songs such as got to be certain peaked at number 2, if released on dif weeks kylie could have at least 10 number 1s by now.
'The Loco-motion' and 'Je ne sais pas pourquoi' were particularly unlucky as they had very narrow misses from #1 (the former is estimated to have been 2k away on its debut week and the latter is estimated to have been less than 1k away on its third week at #2!). 'Love at First Sight' was unfortunate to be up against 'A Little Less Conversation', as was 'I Believe in You' against Band Aid 20, although it would have stood a better chance at #1 if it was released before the greatest hits album. 'All the Lovers' could probably have been #1 if the pre-release campaign was handled a little more modernly.
I knew the loco motion and je ne sais pas pourquoi both were close to number 1 and lost out by close margins. I believe in you was purely down to picking the wrong release week and ll the lovers lost out due to the label not adapting to the modern chart ways. From these songs je ne sais pas pourquoi bothers me the least from not going number 1 but the other 3 i think really should have got there.
