One of my favourites from the Deconstruction/KM94 years - I nearly died on the spot when she sung part of it at the New York launch show for ‘Golden’

I really like you dont love me, its like kylie is part of a session when i listen to the song.

Such a beautiful song - I like the fact that it’s also not all polished and produced, it’s makes it sound a bit more raw and emotive like a song like that should.

Just stumbled across this performance and... wow!

This deep, fuller vocal style sounds so good, would love her to perform like this a bit more!

Very good version and great vocals by kylie again showing she has a great live voice, short hair kylie doesn't work for me though.
Kylie is very comfortable and deep in the song and evidently is enjoying the performance.
The Christmas show worked brilliantly with the orchestra but I think a striped back just full use of an orchestra would work really well on a good few kylie songs an automatic love is one of them.

I imagine that style of singing doesn't come as naturally for Kylie and doesn't typically suit the songs she sings anyway, but it would really blow people away. *.*
If she did more of this style of singing she would have become alot more comfortable with it as when she does it she does it well. Her voice was obviously alot better back then so I cant see her doing more of it now but considering how long she is singing her voice has held up very well.

Kylie's vocals are often overlooked outside the fanbase.

The Automatic Love performance in this thread and Flower from another thread should be shown to her critics as these performances alone highlight her vocal abilities.

In concert, she has delivered amazing live performances over the years.

That said, from 2000 to now, she is showing great ease and confidence in her live performances.

She really started shing with her performances from around 2000 right up to now but she was great on intimate and live aswell

Wait, no one told me that this album was going to hit me so hard :o What a brilliant listen through, it was on repeat yesterday - I did not expect that looking at the tracklist and barely recognising more than 2 songs!? Firstly, 'Confide In Me' is growing to be one of her essentials for me, it is such a bold statement against the 4 albums that have come before and I think it's the first real time that she stripped it all back and just gave us Kylie at her most raw and honest. The rest of the album follows on from this brilliantly - the cohesive sounds and vibes are a world away from the mismatch that was the 'Let's Get To It' album that came before it!!

Songs like 'Falling' I can't imagine are huge favourites for the die-hard fans, but for me, I am blown away by how experimental it all is and how she completely throws out the rule book that she established previously. I see this very much as her Erotica album if I am to compare to Madonna - an era where she experimented with sounds and lyrics and became more open, revealing herself (quite literally in Madonna's case ).

I don't know how this era is looked at from the fanbase, but for me, I can only see this growing further and further the more I get to grips with the lyrics and become more familiar with the album tracks. Full album ranking coming in time on my next listen through ^_^

I found this near impossible to rank because I am a fan of pretty much everything, so don't boo me! The order literally kept switching every minute so this is not definitive by any means :(

1. Confide in Me

2. Put Yourself in My Place

3. Falling

4. Surrender

5. Time Will Pass You By

6. If I Was Your Lover

7. Where is the Feeling

8. Automatic Love

9. Dangerous Game

10. Where Has the Love Gone?

I actually like them all!!!! The fact that 'Where Has the Love Gone?' is last makes me squirm, but it's such a consistent album. I am a FAN.

Album ranking

01. Kylie Minogue

02. Rhythm of Love

03. Kylie

04. Enjoy Yourself

05. Let's Get To It

I had a feeling you'd like this album! Makes me happy to know what a surprise it was for you following on from listening to her PWL albums! I think it's an album that's often overlooked by fans, like they can appreciate the complete reinvention and the experimenting with vocals and maturity of lyrics, but I think the praise is usually aimed at the singles 'Confide in Me' and 'Put Yourself in My Place'.

For me, it's an album that works best when listened to in its entirety, particularly as soothing background music whilst you're doing something else. I think the sounds and the mood work on you gradually as they're given the room to breathe with the generous time lengths. The album is very consistent throughout - I too have struggled to make an album rank that I'm happy with.

Interesting that you compare this to Erotica - I've always made a link with Bedtime Stories, which was released about a month later.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on Impossible Princess! Think there will be more surprises in store!

New demo leaked called 'Rules of Attraction':

Farley & Heller (also known as Fire Island) were responsible for the production on 'Where Has the Love Gone?' and 'Falling' and I definitely get that similar vibe from this one.

Dangerous game should have been a single from the album. Overall, I prefer impossible princess but this album has better singles potential. It’s an album of two halves for me. Some great tracks but also not so good stuff. Love is waiting should have been on the album rather than being the Japanese bonus track but at least it appeared on the 2003 reissue.
