Yesterday marked the 25th anniversary of "Spinning Around", the start of the "Light Years" era. Time flies ever so fast! @___∆___ @SmileyKylie @Delicate @Jessie Where @BREAKTHETENSION

Happy 20th birthday to perhaps Kylie's best album! :cheer:

There is no perhaps, its the best album in her great collection.

Happy 20th Birthday Light Years.

Not my favourite Kylie album but it’s a pop masterpiece and includes some absolute classics

Still remember rushing to Virgin Records to buy this!

Love this album so much, my fave Kylie album (with Golden a close 2nd)

Disco Down was robbed - it should have been the Xmas release over the summery Please Stay

20 years since Kylie performed at Sydney Olympics Closing Ceremony! Here's Kylie performing ABBA's 'Dancing Queen':

loved seeing kylie do this, global stage that all added to her huge comeback, i think on a night like this returned to number 1 in Oz on the back of her performance.
It was a huge stage and global audience for Kylie and it cemented Kylie was back and bigger than ever.
I remember that whole era so fondly all those who wrote her off were prob like how has she turned this around so much.

An album I actually know very well to go alongside a lot of albums I have peeped for the first time, so it'll be interesting to compare.

01. On a Night Like This

02. Spinning Around

03. Please Stay

04. Butterfly

05. So Now Goodbye

06. Your Disco Needs You

07. Disco Down

08. I'm So High

09. Under the Influence of Love

10. Light Years

11. Password

12. Kids (with Robbie Williams)

13. Loveboat

14. Bittersweet Goodbye

15. Koocachoo

This album has some of my favourite Kylie songs in terms of singles (On A Night Like This) and album tracks (Butterfly). It is such a breath of fresh air in terms of how uplifting the production is and how sweet her vocals are, especially after the previous few albums that were more experimental and daring. Simplistic pop, but done brilliantly. A few dud tracks along the way, but on the whole it's a fun listen.

Album ranking

01. Kylie Minogue

02. Rhythm of Love

03. Light Years

04. Impossible Princess

05. Kylie

06. Enjoy Yourself

07. Let's Get To It

We need more albums like Light Years now with all the doom and gloom we have going on, light years would just lift anyones spirits. My ranking can change from time to time but the first 6 in my rankings i just love.

01 Disco Down

02 Under the Influence of Love

03 Bittersweet Goodbye

04 Your Disco Needs You

05 Light Years

06 Butterfly

07 On a Night Like This

08 Kids

09 Please Stay

10 Spinning Around

11 So Now Goodbye

12 Im So Hihh

Light Years delivers so many feel good anthems and is a golden era in Kylie's discography.

Interesting rank - don't tend to see 'Please Stay' and 'So Now Goodbye' that high or 'Light Years' that low! 'Please Stay' is pretty underrated though. I love the Latin influence; it really adds to the romantic mood and Kylie's vocal is so warm and inviting. I think it was a great single choice for the Christmas market.

Totally agree with your synopsis of this album. Kylie's talked about how she had key words in mind ahead of going into this album - "poolside", "disco", "cocktails" - and that sort of imagery definitely comes to mind when listening. This is definitely the album that started my love of pop.

Seems like a demo for 'Under the Influence of Love' has just surfaced:

The final version remains unbothered.
