May 14, 20205 yr 'Chick Fit' is a great song! I love that whole album. I think maybe I'd have chosen 'On And On' as a single in hindsight, but you're right in that nothing could have possibly saved it at that point.
May 14, 20205 yr Author Feels like time stands still #20. Shaznay Lewis - You | 6.018 Highest Scores: 10: (blacksquare, ElectroBoy), 9: (Spiceboy), Lowest Scores: 0: (Jesty Cough), 2: (Hauspital) At #20 we have Shaznay Lewis's second solo offering "You", released in October 2004 as the 2nd and final single from her debut solo album "Open", & was slightly mixed for its single release which really didn't help matters as it struggled on the UK charts peaking at #56 & along with the album struggling (which only managed a #22 peak), she would later become the final All Saints member to get the chop by her record label leaving plans for a third possible single reportedly "Nasty Boy" cancelled indefinitely. I duuno why she went with this as her follow up single as firstly its way too similar to her previous single but more sombre & this doesn't really give you an idea of the tone of the album, she really should have went with something more upbeat like 'NB' or even 'Dance; either of these may have fared better. As this track stands its a very nice soulful ballad even if it lacks the distinctive gritty edge that she brought to All Saints (the entire album suffers from this). There's simply nothing unique about it, just kinda fades into the background. gOtX7VyC1qc Edited May 14, 20205 yr by SamJudd
May 14, 20205 yr Author Can you be everything that I want you to be? #19. Appleton - Fantasy | 6.314 Highest Scores: 10: (Beef Curtains), 9: (gavindeejay, JosephStyles, Sarah), Lowest Scores: -1: (Billy), 2: (Scene, WinterFreeze) Time for another solo offering to drop now with Appleton's debut single "Fantasy", released in September 2002 & taken from her debut album "Everything's Eventual". Upon release the song became a success by reaching a #2 peak (the highest of any All Saints solo offerings), it was held off the top spot by Atomic Kitten's 'The Tide Is High (Get The Feeling)'. The song had some success worldwide with a top 10 peak in Belgium, top 20 in Ireland & top 40 peaks in Netherlands & Switzerland, as well as charting in Australia. This was a great choice to kick off their very brief career's with this ballsy, funky pop/rock number which really lets them rip into a fairly catchy epic chorus as well as combining some brilliant vocal harmonies which sets the tone for things to come. kD83LzD4rCU Edited May 19, 20205 yr by SamJudd
May 14, 20205 yr Author Look into my eyes and let me see you deep inside #18. Melanie Blatt - TwentyFourSeven (Ft Artful Dodger) | 6.407 Highest Scores: 10: (Beef Curtains), 9: (gavindeejay, Jade, ElectroBoy, Babyboy), Lowest Scores: 1: (Scene), 2: (Billy) At #18 we have the last of Melanie Blatt's solo releases to feature here "TwentyFourSeven", a song by UK garage duo Artful Dodger with Mel featuring on guest vocals. Released in September 2001 as the 7th and final single from their studio album "It's All About The Stragglers" & peaked at #6 on the UK charts, giving Mel her first & only top 10 hit as well as Artful Dodger's 5th also making this their last as they would also split. The version that featured on their album featured another singer Nicole & prior to this release one half of the duo Pete Devereux left leaving only Mark Hill. Since this track was recorded just before All Saints split, it was decided to include this on their "All Hits" album as well (probably to pad out the already small tracklist). This is a really decent track with a good beat & Mel's voice blends beautifully with the mellow music & of course the beautiful harpsichord which lends a sense of class to the whole thing, creating a perfect chilled out vibe. Sure this doesn't quite compare to the Artful Dodger's other more well known hits such as 'Re-Wind' or 'Movin Too Fast', but its still a fine tune. xDHszQll5Tc
May 14, 20205 yr I always thought melanie Platt would have got more solo success than she did, she always came across the most likeable aswell.
May 15, 20205 yr Author Yes my kitty cat is all that #17. All Saints - Lady Marmalade | 6.571 Highest Scores: 10: (Spiceboy), 9: (Monzo), Lowest Scores: 3: (Shoat), 4: (Feel The Fever) At #17 we lose a big one with All Saints "Lady Marmalade", released in April 1998 as part of the double A-sided single "Under The Bridge", as the 3rd single from their self titled debut album. Both songs are covers with this originally being sung by Labelle back in 1974 & again got covered by Christina Aguilera/Lil' Kim/Mya/Pink in 2001 for the ''Moulin Rouge' soundtrack. The All Saints version contains different lyrics for its verses, while only keeping the original lyrics for the chorus. Upon release it became yet another huge smash hit for them by becoming their 2nd UK #1, with proceeds going to breast cancer charities. In most countries it was released on it's own by reaching top 20 in Denmark & managing top 40 peaks in Iceland, France & Canada. Both of these cover versions are very bold with a flip in different moods with one being drifting & vulnerable, while this one's more playful & flirty creating an anthem for girls out on the town with its busy overlapping hooks which evokes the bustle of the club life, its cheeky fun raps showing the band’s mischievous side. But it isn't quite a perfect cover version while I do commend them for adding their own flavour to the it, however by cutting up the chorus leaning on the Voluez-vous etc.. hook a bit too much becoming quite exhausted to the point where even they sound bored by the end of it & therefore lacking that brassiness the song needs. On the whole its still a decent effort & did help to cement their careers further. CkXsYjSLbKA
May 16, 20205 yr Author Wondering in this wonderland #16. Appleton - Don't Worry | 6.574 Highest Scores: 10: (gavindeejay, :'), Beef Curtains, Sarah), 9.5/9: (Shoat, Jay), Lowest Scores: 1: (Scene, WinterFreeze), 2: (George.keh) At #16 we say goodbye to last of yet another solo offerings with Appleton, which leaves only Shaznay left in the running with her debut single. "Don't Worry" was released in February 2003 as the 2nd single from their debut studio album "Everything's Eventual" & peaked at #5 on the UK charts which makes this their 2nd & final top 10 hit. The album would follow a couple of weeks, despite being originally slated for release in 2002 after "Fantasy" under its original title "Aloud", but shortly after the sisters published their autobiography, ‘Together’. However due to some of its content concerning they're former band, it caused a bit of a press fuelled backlash & decided to postpone it a few months in order for the storm to die down. "Don't Worry" is a much more mellow counterpart to their previous hit with its gentle strings, acoustic like beats with some beautiful contemporary guitar work throughout, really gives this a warm feeling that creates a really nice little track where in my opinion harks back to the sounds of early Natalie Imbruglia & Alanis Morrisette. This was the perfect follow up single choice & a well deserved hit. Overall this & its album are vastly underrated with so many great tracks such as 'Hallelujah' & 'Supernaturally' ( either or both of which should have been singles instead of 'EE'), really this album another listen you'll be pleasantly surprised. May 16, 20205 yr Author The next track to drop will be an All Saints non chart-topper, any guesses (look at page 1 to see what's left)

May 17, 20205 yr Author Doesn't he know I won't class my trash? #15. All Saints - All Hooked Up | 6.589 Highest Scores: 9: (:'), Spiceboy, WinterFreeze), 8.5/8: (dandy, George.keh, Beef Curtains, JosephStyles), Lowest Scores: 3: (Billy, Jade), 4: (Scene) At #15 are All Saints with their somewhat of a swan song? "All Hooked Up" , released in January 2001 as the third & final single from their 2nd album "Saints & Sinners". Although it was expected to debut at #1 (like the other 2), it peaked at #7, becoming their 8th consecutive top 10 hit, but also their lowest seller at the time with 54,699 copies sold. This also marked the end of the first phase of their careers as they would split up shortly after as tensions between the group were simmering to the point where in the end it came down to an spat over who should wear a jacket in a photoshoot, which would famously be the breaking point & called it a day, & ending a very promising career. Promos of the album track "Surrender" were doing the rounds, hinting that this may have been the 4th single, but due to the split it wasn't meant to be. The groups premature end meant that we sadly didn't get a spectacular end to their imperial phase, but instead we get this hip-hop-lite track that lacks that gritty edge it needs. Although it is a nice mellow R&B song with some wonderful vocal harmonies going on, but when you compare it to the other 2 singles, it simply falls rather short & really doesn't flow quite as well with them. It was a shame that this their last & cutting the album cycle rather short when there's so much potential with the stellar track 'Surrender' which would have made a great single choice as well as "Dreams" that could have round things off quite nicely if things didn't take a turn for the worse. While 'AHU' is a fine enough effort, it's not quite the swansong their fans were after at the time. qHC6wSwTUYU
May 17, 20205 yr There's been no major losses so far but it's a shame to see LM, CF and MIAB fall away so soon!
May 17, 20205 yr I slightly prefer Chick Fit to All Hooked Up, so I would have preferred to see Chick Fit higher up than it is! All Hooked Up felt like a bit of a misfire to me at the time of its release, although maybe that was partly because it followed up two incredibly stunning songs. I do like it, but there were better songs from the album. Pleased to see that Never Felt Like This Before is still in the running! My favourite solo effort.
May 17, 20205 yr Author The stage fright in my own bed #14. All Saints - War of Nerves | 7.0 Highest Scores: 10: (:'), Spiceboy, Shoat), 8.5/8: (dandy, Chapman, vibe, Babyboy, Sarah), Lowest Scores: 4.5: (Jonjo), 5.5/5: (Feel the Fever, WinterFreeze) At #14 is an early All Saints number "War of Nerves", released in November 1998 as the 5th and final single from their Self-Titled debut album & peaked at #7 on the UK charts, making this their 5th top 10 hit & despite peaking lower than the other singles it still managed to sell over 200,000 copies & earning a Silver disc (thanks to the high sales of the X-Mas period). This was the last track recorded for the album. The group wrote the song as a response to the death of Diana: Princess of Wales & Natale Appleton herself named it as her favourite song on the album. This track definitely highlights their beautiful harmonies over some delicate sweeping strings really helps create the sombre yet soothing mood the song's going for. There is an understated beauty in this rather heart-felt ballad that has helped this age rather well & while it may pale in comparison to some of their other bigger hits, it's still a beautiful & soulful moment in their discography.
