What did you think that Holiday song was / what did you think Madonna's was? :o

I don’t even know I just never put two and two together I guess... I haven’t gone out of my way to listen to Madonna much (sorry x) but each time she sounded completely different. So when I’ve heard Holiday on the radio etc I just didn’t realise?

The last time I decided “okay let’s listen to Madonna” was when she was blown away at the Brits (I think) And that song was wayyyy different in every way to Holiday

Ariana Grande - Be Alright

Girls Aloud - On The Metro

Harry Styles - Watermelon Sugar

Kylie Minogue - Lost Without You

Lady Gaga - The Cure

Little Mix - Is Your Love Enough?

Madonna - Holiday

P!nk - Bad Influence

Shawn Mendes - Bad Reputation

Spice Girls - Never Give Up On The Good Times

Take That - Hold Up A Light

She is the queen of reinvention after all! Each era has a distinct sound and aesthetic so I don't blame you really if you've never listened to her much.

Why not put Celebration on - her most recent greatest hits, and see how many Madonna songs you can recognise as actually being her without previously knowing it? :P

I do know what 'Holiday' sounds like but I don't think I knew it was Madonna for a while! Growing up, Hung Up, 4 Minutes and Give Me All Ur Luvin were the Madonna that I knew so Holiday sounds a world away from that! There's so many one-hit wonders/forgotten artists from the 80's that you might have assumed Holiday would belong to.

It was released THREE times by her in the 80s. How much more did she have to do to make you realise it was her  () I do get what you're saying tbh, it is such a different sound for her in the debut era compared to everything else. You just need to look at how different the songs are from that era, then to the 'Like a Virgin' era and every era after changed very significantly in sound! One of the best things about loving her as much as I do, is there is an album for every occasion/mood and her music never sounds repetitive across the years because each era is so different!

Bal out here shamelessly plugging Madonna x

It's working though

Not all of us have a living memory of the 80's! :o

I agree that the re-invention is why Madonna is such a star! Just wasn't so aware of her ability to shape-shift 10 years ago

1. Ellie Goulding - Lost and found (what a revelation never heard this before and I played it several times, new favourite song alert  )

2. Girls Aloud - On the metro

3. Spice Girls - Never give up on the good times

4. Harry Styles - Watermelon sugard

5. Britney Spears - Cinderella (have to say I've seriously underestimated this song for years always skipped it and actually I loved it when playing it  )

6. Madonna - Holiday (a classic  )

7. Take That - Hold up a light for me (again never heard this really enjoyed it!)

8. Pink - Bad influence (another new discovery, what a bop better than some of the singles from that era)

9. Lady Gaga - The cure

10. Ariana Grande - Be alright (lovely chilled listen has a modern Whitney vibe to it)

11. Beyonce - Scared of loney (what a voice  )

The rest

12. Taylor Swift - Cruel summer

13. Katy Perry - Roulette (not really a fan of Katy but I liked this, very catchy)

14. Shawn Mendes (seriously what a sexy voice!!)

15. Little Mix - Is your love enough?

16. Rihanna - Fire bomb

17. Zara Larson - TG4M

18. Rita Ora - First time high

19. Kylie Minogue - Lost without you (wish Fever had been sent would have been in my top 5!)

20. Dua Lipa - Kiss and make up

21. Calvin Harris - Slide

The Calvin Harris one was the only song I didn't really like the rest were all really good, enjoyed listening to them all.

Great to see so many people discovering songs through this round! ^_^

You had me fooled :teresa:

Doing my listen-through right now, I'm familiar with most but may have only given some of these album tracks a couple listens. 'Cinderella' is a good new discovery for me!
