Just something I wanted to do as I've been a little obsessed with chillout tracks recently. Will try to post recommendations as often I as I can. There'll be old tracks and new tracks, but overall some absolute gems.

Let's begin with one of the most iconic.

Groove Armada - At The River

Released: 1997 and re-released in 1999 (#19 UK)

What a perfect place to start, the epitome of the chillout genre. Officially a part of the group's second album Vertigo (though it did appear on Norther Star initially), At The River has blissful vocal, based on a sample of Old Cape Cod by Patti Page, laid across one of the smoothest productions ever. I don't need to say anything else other than revisit it in all its glory (or discover it if you haven't before).

Fun fact: Radio 1 were going to ignore this on their daytime playlist because they thought it was too slow :o thanks to Rob da Bank and Zoe Ball (amongst others) spamming it the song got forced into rotation!

Try Smooth Radio Chill. It's actually really good and nothing like the main station. It plays chilled versions of dance tracks:- https://www.smoothradio.com/chill/

Recently played:-

Café Del Mar (Michael Woods Remix) - Energy 52

2People (RexKwondo Remix) - Jean Jacques Smoothie

Since I Left You - The Avalanches

Oh mate I'm already there, it's what inspired this thread! I've been listening to it non-stop for the last couple of weeks :lol:

Very happy to see tracks from Escape Reality being played.

Great suggestion for a radio station, and I can definitely vouch for that Energy 52 remix and Avalanches and Chicane are great artists too.

My choice of chillout streaming that I’ve used for some years now (both as a paid and unpaid subscription) is di.fm which have a variety of chillout stations, my preferred is the vocal chillout station, but I dabble in and out of other stations too.

Smooth have done a good job at rebranding chill. actually. They just posted 312k listeners in the Q1 Rajar (300k in Q4 2019 which was its first set of stats) which isn't bad for a station that's only been going (in its current form) just under 9 months.

It's on National DAB now so those numbers should increase in the next Rajar. Have to agree it's a great station, probably the best and most adventurous Global station.

My chillout tracks are:-

Massive Attack - Teardrop

Massive Attack - Unfinished Sympathy

Chicane - Saltwater

Chicane - Offshore

Chicane - Poppiholla

Moby - Natural Blues

Moby - Porciline

Moby - Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad?

Daft Punk - Something About Us

Portishead - Glory Box

Zero 7 - Destiny

M83 - Outro

Chicane - Saltwater

Chicane - Offshore

Chicane - Poppiholla

If you're going to have those then also add this

:heart:

and if you like the Paul van Dyk chill album, Ferry Corsten has just put one out too. haven't listened to either of them myself yet. and Above & Beyond also did one, which was out last year but they seem to have re-released it with some more spoken word tracks.

I want to take an opportunity to promote DJ Shah’s work. He also goes by the alias Roger Shah and you may have heard some of his uptempo trance music, but his chillout music is very dear to me.

I’m especially fond of his side project called Sunlounger, which I bought CD’s of many years ago, and they are some of the finest chillout songs I’ve discovered before. I wanted to share some of the music with anyone searching for chillout music.

As DJ Shah he has released a couple of compilations which include both his own music and other music from his label;

He also released an album called Songbook which contains “acoustic” versions of all the tracks and they are very chilled;

But his best work in my opinion is what he has done under the alias of Sunlounger;

I don’t think he produces any more music under the Sunlounger alias anymore, but what he did make is worth listening to many times over as music to chill to! ^_^

Time for a new one this week and it comes from American producer Luttrell. The track, Lucky Ones, features on his album of the same name released in March through Anjunadeep. Leaving Laurel are signed to the same label and the’ve turned the song into a beatless wonder, enjoy!

Well that was certainly calming to listen to, such a restful piece of music.

In a similar vain, I will share this song from my library which I discovered some years ago which I consider to be one of the chillest songs of all time. It’s just such a mellow piece of music from an artist called Transa;

Armin van Buuren's done a chill album now too out today (more specifically, other people have remixed his tracks).

808 State

Actress (if you want a mix of chilling and spine-chilling)

Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works '85-'92 (you can also go for Alberto Balsam and the Cheetah EP)

The Avalanches

Boards Of Canada

Daniel Avery

DJ Shadow - Endtroducing

Four Tet

George Fitzgerald

Illum Sphere

James Blake (more indie and alternative than electronic/dance but he has some chilling stuff nonetheless)

Jamie xx

Julio Bashmore - Knockin' Boots

Jungle

Lemon Jelly

Maribou State

Martyn - Voids

The Orb

Romare

Sepehr - Shaytoon
