I think room for love is overrated , in fact the whole album is . It would prob not be in my top 20.

This.

ALSO, me and a friend of mine sent a video for inclusion in the official one and didnt get selected, so technically this video is pointless and wrong anyway :teresa:

How were you not included and the guy rolling round in the sand in his swimming trunks was  To be fair though I love that bit bless him so I can see why I guess

I mean, it certainly saved me the embarassment of being in a Mel C video that looked like it cost £20 anyway so im not exactlly complaining either :teresa:

I was going to enter that comp but then I didn’t get round to it.

 I'm glad to see some appreciation for If That Were Me! I've always thought it's such a lovely song and I think her heart was in the right place.

Room for Love is absolutely one of the best tracks on Version of Me, I'm glad it got its moment as a single. The CD single omitting the original version of Room for Love accidentally... oop!

16 Northern Star

Where do you go after releasing a brash, bold debut single like Goin' Down? In the complete opposite direction with the gentle, classy Northern Star, the title track of Melanie's debut album. This is far more to my taste than its predecessor, it's got some gorgeous melodic moments, and the production is standout!

 but everything is SO GOOD :(

In all seriousness, the top 16 is where things REALLY heat up for me  if I were to make a Melanie C "best of" playlist, it'd be the top 16 here! So every song is going to be a sad loss for me.
You do Northern Star this dirty, you should be banned from here completely. It's HER BEST SONG AND SINGLE EVER!!

TOO LOWWWWW

Northern Star is definitely one of my favourite Mel songs, beautiful beautiful track.

15 On the Horizon

The second single from Reason was the breezy On the Horizon, a nice contrast to the more dramatic Here It Comes Again that came before it. I find it quite surprising that this wasn't much of a hit, it sounds like it should be to my ears? It's catchy, infectious and great for the time of year it came out in. Oh well, I love it anyway!

 It's actually my favourite song from 'Reason', from the moment I first heard the album, and I still think it is now. It sounded like the most obvious single so I can understand it being chosen. Melanie C herself said she didn't like it in the past; I think a combination of that & the song under-performing in the UK chart may have tainted the song for some fans. Glad that it's made your Top 15!

Northers Star not being top 10 wow! You are sure bringing the controversy :o

I love On the horizon, it's possibly my favourite song on Reason, although I do love Home and Reason too. It was certainly the most commercial sounding song for a release. I've never really understood why it flopped so badly, I mean I compare it to some of the other girls solo releases and think wow it's so much more catchy and commercial how did they go top 10 and this one didn't? I would say it's the anti-spice backlash but actually Emma managed to get some top 10's out of Free Me (albeit I think they were stronger songs tbf) and Geri did with Ride it after this too (hell even Mel had another one... ironically selling less overall).

With On the horizon flopping I kind of feel there was nothing Melanie could release off Reason that was going to succeed for her.

They were all pre-album singles. It was (and still is) harder to score a hit with a song that's already available commercially.

I think if I ever do my own Mel C rate, Jay and Spiceboy will throw me out of this forum :coffee:
