As revealed in the sales commentary Merry Christmas would only be #3 - but the highest non Christmas song would be tumbling to #8.

#7 is a new peak for Brenda Lee and Sia’s Snowman would be entering the Top 40 for the first time. What a shame that it only became popular after hitting permanent ACR.

Wham! have the honour of losing a week at #1 to ACR for the first time. Mariah had 4 of those before her 2 weeks at #1 officially, so leads 6-2 on that score.

Brenda Lee's song peaked at #6 in 1962 so that hasn't been bettered in this era (yet)!

‘Twas the week before Christmas and all through the chart not a thing was happening. Well a few new peaks for old Christmas songs. Brenda Lee equalling her peak from 59 years ago (thanks for the correction Jim) and new peaks for Andy Williams, Bobby Helms, Sia and Sinatra reaching the Top 40 for the first time with Let It Snow x3. That’s the only song that has 2 versions so high, and indeed they’re quite different but both good.

I'm not sure whether Heat Waves has equalled its #7 peak without ACR this week, but on the Audio Streaming chart it has equalled its #6 peak in its 50th consecutive week in the top 75 / 49th consecutive week in the top 50, after having originally peaked in its 37th / 36th - all records as far as I can tell:

Heat Waves: 53 weeks (w/e 14/1/21 - 13/1/22)

99-82-80-63-47-35-38-32-28-29-29-28-31-26-28-28-25-25-24-33-39-36-38-34-37-36-35-44-33-36-29-32-35-36-18-18-9-7-8-6-6-7-7-8-9-8-22-25-31-39-47-49-6

For the Audio Streaming top 100, The Greatest Show peaked on its 53rd consecutive week as mentioned on page 7, but the latest I've found a song equalling its peak in a continuous run is Ed Sheeran - Photograph at 55 weeks:

Photograph: 55 weeks (w/e 12/7/14 - 23/7/15)

16-21-29-40-42-43-42-44-48-47-56-68-77-68-65-57-58-51-52-54-59-59-63-80-45-68-38-40-44-45-50-56-66-83-72-68-77-80-81-83-82-91-87-96-100-90-75-66-57-53-36-24-19-17-16

Thanks Dan. Going by the regular automatic reset rules, as per the list Joseph posted in the chart show thread, Easy On Me wouldn't have had a reset but Heat Waves would have - in which case it would have had a new peak of #4.

(but I won't be starting an 'Estimated chart with old ACR rules' thread - yet)

I’ve resurrected my ChartsPlus subscription which includes the YTD top 100. This week the YTD chart is exactly the same as the old rules chart, and therefore I’ve amended the above so that for one week only it’s 100% accurate.

Interesting bits further down:

The official #40, “I hate u” by SZA, is only #87 on Old Rules. :o

Adele has 5 songs in the Top 100 but only 3 current ones, the other 2 being “Someone like you” at #73 and “Rolling in the deep” at #82.

Ed has 9 songs in the Top 100, none of which are the single he’s apparently about to push:

1 Shivers

4 Bad habits

15 Overpass graffiti

40 Perfect

59 Shape of you

74 Merry Christmas

75 Visiting hours

85 Thinking out loud

97 Castle on the hill

Edited by JulianT

I thought Own It would have been just ahead, it did over 67k that week whereas Dance Monkey did just under 35k but at least 3k of that would have been pure sales, so less than 67k if back on SCR. Anyway Ladbaby happened...

Interesting as ever thanks for this! Would that not have been a first appearance in the top 40 for the latter two meat loaf songs?

Edit: I’ve just looked, you’re right. I never realised they’d both been top 40 before.

Edited by Supercell

Paradise By The Dashboard Light which had never officially charted would have been top 75 at least.
PBTDL it seems would’ve been top 40, and one spot ahead of 2OO3AB - it having lower downloads sales meant it ended up getting starred out in the official chart.
  • Author
Apologies - I completely missed considering PBTDL. I think what threw me was that I was looking for Meatloaf songs below TOOTAB on the Audio Streaming chart when in fact it was above! I’ve put it in one place above the latter as per Dan’s steer.
