Reading the results of The Singles Rate, and comments about Living For Love not ageing well, it got me to wondering about what would have been a better lead single, whether or not the album should have been trimmed somewhat to make it a better listen and if, without the leaks and the stage fall and all that other stuff, Rebel Heart could have ended up being a better era for her.

Personally, I wonder about how she could have made the most of the Brits performance... Avoiding falling off stage would have been a good start, but what if she had premiered such a great power ballad as Ghosttown on there? Would the public have bought into that better that LFL? Or if she had performed Rebel Heart, which was a bit nostagic. Or if she had come out with Iconic... which was a belter of a song.

For me, releasing the single the previous Friday to get the most out of the week, and leading the album with Ghosttown with a performance at the Brits would have been a sure fire way of making at least the Top 20, if not Top 10 in the UK.

Ghosttown had high performances on jonathan ross, American Music Awards with talor swift and i think ellen.

Still didnt help as only radio 2 supported it.

"Borrowed Time" deals with war and social issues while "Auto-Tune Baby" features a baby wailing in the background.

This on the Wiki page for this album has me SCREAMING  From one extreme to the other - this album really needed some quality control :')

That quote is hilarious! Tbf how else do you objectively describe the song, it’s literally what it says on the tin - auto tune and a baby!
Ghostown was a great Madonna song but the album included rubbish tracks like holy water!

I was having a listen to Rebel Heart yesterday for the first time in a long time and, although I really like the album, it got me thinking about how bloated people felt it was. I have the 19 track deluxe version and wondered how it could look if it was condensed to a 80s-style 10-track vinyl.

This is what I came up with

Side One

1. Rebel Heart

2. Ghosttown

3. Living For Love

4. Hold Tight

5. Joan of Arc

Side Two

1. Iconic (feat. Chance the Rapper & Mike Tyson)

2. Inside Out

3. Wash All Over Me

4. Devil Pray

5. Messiah

The title track probably the best song here, far too good to be relegated to last place on the deluxe, I put it as the opener (and should have been lead single).

It feels possibly a little ballad-heavy - but then Like a Prayer had quite a few slow ones as well.

Joan of Arc closing Side One, Messiah the final track of the album.

I was a bit unsure over Inside Out/Wash All Over Me/Body Shop/HeartBreak City, but think I got the best two.

All in all, I think this would have been quite the album.

What do you think? How would you change it?

I would replicate my playlist for it... so:

01 Living For Love

02 Rebel Heart

03 Devil Pray

04 Ghosttown

05 Hold Tight

06 Joan of Arc

07 Inside Out

08 Messiah

09 Borrowed Time

10 Iconic

11 Queen

12 Wash All Over Me

Same 10 songs as me and then a couple which I am not familiar with 👍

Listening now , it is a great body if work !!

Rebel Heart is actually one of my favourite Madonna albums. I would choose it over her debut, Like a Virgin, American Life, Hard Candy, MDNA and Madame X. Maybe even Confessions (don't shoot me!)

It's a bit bloated and songs like SEX are just not worth the time... but there are so many great songs on it. The title track is incredible.

I still like Rebel Heart too. It's a strong enough 10 track album, just as others say it's way too bloated and has some really bad stuff as well as the better songs
