August 8, 20204 yr I expect this to be a trainwreck but it is kind of an interesting concept. I wonder how much crossover there will be between backwards Republican states and terrible country songs xx
August 8, 20204 yr Christer Björkman is behind this so expect it to be more like Melodifestivalen rather than Eurovision.
August 8, 20204 yr Whyyyyyyyyyy can’t the Americans just stop with the cultural appropriation for half a f***ing minute.
August 8, 20204 yr Whyyyyyyyyyy can’t the Americans just stop with the cultural appropriation for half a f***ing minute. ‘EUROvision?? What’s that? Don’t you mean Americavision??!’
August 9, 20204 yr An American Idol but with state representations sounds like a 3/10 thing as opposed to the 1/10 thing actual American Idol would be. Might end up listening to a few of the songs though, I imagine some of the more artsy states like Oregon or Connecticut could have the potential to put up something halfway decent, and it would be interesting to see if Tennessee could hold its own as the capital of country. also if it manages multiple years it surely won't be long before Canada wants to impose itself in too.
August 9, 20204 yr Not sure I agree with calling this cultural appropriation. Loads of contests/competitions have been given versions in other countries/areas of the world. I do think they have to be careful not to make a mockery of Eurovision - but from the sounds of it they just want to make another celebratory music show, displaying the diverse music available in America.
August 9, 20204 yr Think it'll be interesting, I'll definitely be watching. Sure it won't be anywhere near as good as Eurovision but might still get a few good songs out of it

The majority of reality tv show ideas (like BB, X factor, weakest link etc etc etc) came from Europe and only a handful created by the US. You would think that a country like USA would have a good chance of coming up with a massive franchise. Loads of shows have indeed been aired in other countries but the sheer amount of American adaptations is alarming. Also they are making it all about just one country - themselves. They took Eurovision, threw away the actual thing that made it meaningful and called it Anericavision 🥴 Also it happened ONLY after the movie was literally SHOVED into their faces on Netflix which showed there is interest in the US for this type of contest. Eurovision has been out there for 60 years and Americans still don’t know anything about it. If that’s not ignorance then idk what is. So do they truly deserve Eurovision? No.
August 9, 20204 yr I guess, the Eurovision model works as well as it does in Europe as with the slight exception of Russia, there are no real superstates that expose the concept of one entry per unequally sized nation. The US has such cultural dominance in its region that being on an equal playing field with other states just wouldn't occur to them. So yes, a good export of Eurovision to that part of the world would probably include all of North and South America, would have about the right number of nations for a lot of musical diversity. Except then it wouldn't get as much of an audience in the USA as America wouldn't win all the time and bonus, they'd mischaracterise Latin America as all having the same music.

No. This has been in development for at least two years now, if not longer, so it has nothing to do with the Ferrell movie.

No. I can understand your frustration and I don’t think the country of America is anywhere near as diverse as the continent of Europe (although never underestimate how different people are from State to State) There are so many things in the world that are blatantly ignorant - this is not really one of them (in my opinion). They are just copying a winning format
August 11, 20204 yr Not really a fan of the logo! Where do they intend to put the flag of whichever state is hosting
