You would assume but then were 4 goals up against Barca in 2017 and still managed to bottle that so don't speak too soon!

The fact that away goals rule still applies this season for European competitions is absolutely ridiculous, saying that even when United have an advantage tonight.

I totally agree on the away rules, Liverpool could be playing their home leg in Hungary in 3 weeks time! It doesn't really make any sense if you're playing two legged lies on a neutral ground..

It was an amazing match between Porto and Juventus, I only saw the highlights but after watching it I'm gutted that I didn't see the game in full. So many chances for both teams especially in the last minutes of the match during normal time and extra time. Juventus won 3-2 on the night but in the end they were made to regret losing the 1st leg and are out on the away goals rule. It will be quite interesting to see who Porto get in the next round.

Ronaldo's move to Juve to win the Champions League has been a disaster! I still think Messi will get another shot or two at winning, but Ronaldo surely has one or two absolute maximum!

Liverpool continue to baffle me. I did think we looked so much more solid with Fabinho back in midfield, but dear lord we cannot score

Least we got the win under our belts let’s bring that to the league campaign now

We just need to play every game in Budapest now!

Haha I would be up for that!

In all seriousness though can’t see us winning this year as the mentality of the squad is bound to be being effected by the injuries and form in the league.

You finally win at home and it's game you didn't even need to win ;o

End of the road for both Messi & Ronaldo imo. Barca are fallen giants, been dreadful this season. Juve too but that was always gonna happen when you put the Italian Lampard in charge.

Mbappe & Haaland have arrived in time to take over their mantles. If they remain injury-free they're both gonna obliterate their records.

Although we didn't win at home technically  I think both Ronaldo and Messi will have another shot still, Messi especially unless he decides to go out of Europe at the end of the season.

Haha good point.

Tbf hadn't considered Messi if he leaves for PSG or Man City (ain't gonna be anyone else) but don't think he's any chance staying at Barca. That said I'm reasonably confident he would only leave Barca for China or the MLS.

Some goal from him all the same. Ronaldo 35 and Messi 33 now so no surprise it would eventually happen I guess!

Happy with the draw for Liverpool, on the easier side of the draw to the final and we avoid Bayern/City/PSG altogether unless we meet the final, cannot ask for much more than that.
I was hoping that Man City would get drawn against Bayern Munich to put an immediate end to all the quadruple talk but it will actually be more satisfying for rival fans if they get knocked out in the semi final instead as I don't see them getting past the winner of the Bayern Vs PSG quarter final. What a quarter final that is going to be by the way! A rematch of last year's final. On the other side of the bracket anyone has a good chance of making it to the final and it looks like there could be an all English semi final.

Yes at least City haven't got the plum fixtures as per usual. I would really like to see them vs PSG in the oil derby but I wouldn't be surprised to see them lose to Dortmund despite how bad they've been in Bundesliga this season.

Porto are being really underestimated and could easily beat this average Chelsea side.

I think City will dispatch Dortmund quite comfortably and then a tie against PSG/Bayern could go either way and would purely depend on Pep's mindset. But even for the players too, the Quadruple talk (and if not the Quadruple talk, it will be the Treble talk) will really start to ramp up soon. It will be interesting to see if the pressure gets to any of the players, I suspect not with the lack of crowds but certainly the media pressure will start rocketing if they win the League Cup.

Agree about Porto too. I think they could cause Chelsea some problems. While under great form right now, I still think they are very beatable. Not sure under Tuchel they have gone a goal down yet at any stage? But they do have a great shot at winning the Champions League.

They went behind against Southampton last month before eventually drawing 1-1 but yes they have impressively tightened up at the back. It really shouldn't have taken a genius to play Kante in his best position but Lampard & Sarri thought he was best suited to the wing for whatever reason.

Does Kante start much under Tuchel? Always see him on as a sub!

But yeh Chelsea have always played well with wing backs. Funny how a manager can make a big difference (for a while)!

We just need Dortmund to score in the 2nd leg and keep a clean sheet. Fingers crossed that happens! Meanwhile it's not looking good for Liverpool after the 1st leg but they can't be written off after being in a worse position than this and still making it through in recent years.
We were dreadful in that first half. Genuinely as bad as I've ever seen us and I've seen some shocking performances! It is all relative that our defence would get shown up against better teams. Hate to make excuses but that referee performance was one of those where he didn't do anything majorly bad but every 50/50 went Real Madrid's way. I always forget how much I hate watching Spanish teams and their playful antics. Anyway, I doubt we will go through as we're not good enough, but the away goal gives us a chance at least.
