I feel like Coldplay would have done better had we done a scoring system where we marked the top 8 based upon rankings tbh

Or were they deceptively higher because of people posting in alphabetical order? :mathswoman:

Greyson or S Club can never :frankie:

Coldplay were exactly what I'd have expected from them, a real mixture of things I love all the way through to things I really dislike! If there had been more singles/free choice rounds then I suspect they would have performed better, they didn't translate too well in the album track rounds.

There was a reason I sent mainly promo/radio singles for those rounds :kink: They definitely know how to pick singles.

08 | 0.53 Mariah Carey

Best performer: Prisoner (Round 2)

Worst performer: Dreamlover (Round 10)

One of the greatest female vocalists of all-time and the Queen of Christmas - the legendary Mariah Carey!

Mariah's results have been a bit of a mixed bag, so it seems appropriate that she's finished mid-table. She really exceeded my expectations with her album tracks, including Now That I Know, You Need Me and Prisoner. In particular Prisoner, which won its round, and in terms of percentages was the most voted for song in the entire contest, with 87.5% of voters including it in their top 8s! :o That uptempo number is taken from her very first album, her self-titled from 1990.

Singles-wise, All I Want for Christmas Is You provided Mariah with another win in this contest. You guys were feeling festive in August! *.* Always Be My Baby is one of Mariah's most celebrated hits, so it was pleasing to see that come as high as 2nd.

A couple of misfires along the way (Dreamlover doing that badly... I'm still shocked), but overall I'm pleased with how Mariah was received in this contest! By the way, I almost opted to go with Troye Sivan as my second artist instead of Mariah!

Round 1: 11th, 16 votes out of 40 - Vision of Love

Round 2: 1st, 28 votes out of 32 - Prisoner

Round 3: 8th (tied), 21 votes out of 39 - #Beautiful (feat. Miguel)

Round 4: 10th, 15 votes out of 30 - Heartbreaker (feat. Jay-Z)

Round 5: 11th (tied), 9 votes out of 25 - Whenever You Call

Round 6: 7th (tied), 14 votes out of 28 - Fantasy

Round 7: 2nd, 16 votes out of 25 - Now That I Know

Round 8: 2nd (tied), 19 votes out of 28 - Always Be My Baby

Round 9: 13th, 9 votes out of 25 - The Distance (feat. Ty Dolla $ign)

Round 10: 16th, 5 votes out of 28 - Dreamlover

Round 11: 6th (tied), 13 votes out of 23 - You Need Me

Round 12: 1st (tied), 27 votes out of 38 - All I Want for Christmas Is You

Mariah had some shocking results - that Dreamlover position was SO undeserved!! :( But Prisoner's slayage was quite something :cheeseblock: I'm glad she's top half but she defo deserved to be higher!

PRISONER :cheeseblock: (My absolute FAVOURITE discovery I think!)

That 10th place for Heartbreaker was disgusting, as well as Dreamlover finishing last... WTAF!?

Also, justice for We Belong Together, Hero, It's Like That, Obsessed & Touch My Body not getting their moments </3

07 | 0.53 Janet Jackson

Best performer: Rhythm Nation (Round 4)

Worst performer: If (Round 10)

The first of Haus' two artists to drop, the iconic Janet Jackson slips into the top half of the countdown. For me personally, I've thoroughly enjoyed all of Janet's entries. I didn't know much of her music at all before, but now I've been fully converted to a fan. Songs like Rhythm Nation and What Have You Done for Me Lately are among my favourites, so thank you Haus for your fantastic song selections along the way. I'm sure you'll be able to do Janet justice with a far better commentary when you're available!

Round 1: 6th (tied), 22 votes out of 40 - What Have You Done for Me Lately

Round 2: 5th, 21 votes out of 32 - Better Days

Round 3: 7th, 22 votes out of 39 - Scream (with Michael Jackson)

Round 4: 1st, 26 votes out of 30 - Rhythm Nation

Round 5: 2nd (tied), 18 votes out of 25 - This Time

Round 6: 12th (tied), 11 votes out of 28 - All for You

Round 7: 10th (tied), 11 votes out of 25 - What About

Round 8: 9th (tied), 13 votes out of 28 - Love Will Never Do (Without You)

Round 9: 12th, 10 votes out of 25 - Shoulda Known Better

Round 10: 11th (tied), 10 votes out of 28 - If

Round 11: 8th (tied), 11 votes out of 23 - Empty

Round 12: 12th, 16 votes out of 38 - Together Again

Round 10 was a free choice wasn't it? I assume Dreamlover would never have been sent if Jay would have realised how popular All I Want... was going to be in the thread!

Janet!

I think Haus did a great job of showcasing Janet's different eras and styles. I'd have liked her to finish higher but 7th is okay.

I really made some great discoveries from Janet when previously I didn't really rate her much so thanks for that! I'd have thought she could finish a bit higher, but it's pretty close up top.

The biggest surprise for me with Janet was 'Together Again' only coming 12th! It's a total classic and by far her biggest song (in the UK) so I thought it would have been a whole lot better received than that.

'If' really didn't deserve the dubious honour of being her overall worst performing either. Another under-appreciated moment is 'All for You', and I still wonder whether that's because the longer album version was included in the playlist instead of the radio edit

'Rhythm Nation' coming 1st - fabulous  What a powerful song, that holds up so well after 30+ years.

Better Days and Empty were lovely discoveries! I already knew What About and Shoulda Known Better, both amazing!

Overall a great set of songs here, and I really must get around to delving into her back catalogue some day.

Indeed, if I'd always had AIWFCIY planned for the final then I probably would have gone with We Belong Together in Round 10 instead. Emotion and Touch My Body could have been good choices too. Mariah just has too many options, narrowing it down was tough but unfortunately I didn't anticipate that Dreamlover would be the wrong call to make

06 | 0.55 Tinashe

Best performer: All Hands On Deck (Round 8)

Worst performer: Stormy Weather (Round 4)

I was hmming and arring over whether to use Justin Timberlake, Loreen or Tinashe. Then Raleigh Ritchie released his 2nd album and I threw his name into the mix. But ultimately it was Tinashe who got the chance to shine. I dont regret ANY of Tinashe's song choices, but in hindsight I probably should have used Round 4's choice a bit more wisely and sent Jealous (Remix) or something over the deep album cut, Stormy Weather. But hey, more representation for Songs For You *.*

Tinashe's placings exceeded my expectations. Did I expect top 5 results? Yes, in some of the rounds, but I assumed Tinashe would've been the act to have finished highest, despite never winning a round, so to see that she managed to get TWO wins is absolutely mind-blowing to me. With two of her absolute bests for me, too! I'm so, SO thankful that Know Better being sent paid off despite actually very nearly sending Feels Like Vegas for the second time lmao :') The only round I'm gutted with the outcome on is the final round. 2 On deserved so, SO much better. I understand it was up against the classics, but this is a bit of a cult hit! It has a huge following. Nvm </3

I'm ecstatic with 6th place for her. I expected a little lower when this was being discussed, but I'm so pleased to see she finished top half. Really hoping some people found some gorgeous entries amongst her work. There were songs I wish I had room for Cold Sweat, Bated Breath, Bet, Cash Race, Jealous (Remix), Dance Like Nobody's Watching... :kink: (GO STREAM THAT PLEASE AND LISTEN <3)

Thank you so, SO much for fitting Tinashe into your votes whenever you could. It means the world to me and I hope a couple more people actually realised why there is such hype around her online that doesn't extend to the charts xx

Round 1: 12th (tied), 15 votes out of 40 - Player

Round 2: 3rd (tied), 22 votes out of 32 - Wildfire

Round 3: 4th (tied), 24 votes out of 39 - Just Say (with KDA)

Round 4: 14th, 7 votes out of 30 - Stormy Weather

Round 5: 5th (tied), 16 votes out of 25 - Feels Like Vegas

Round 6: 12th (tied), 11 votes out of 28 - Company

Round 7: 5th, 14 votes out of 25 - Watch Me Work

Round 8: 1st, 22 votes out of 28 - All Hands on Deck

Round 9: 6th (tied), 14 votes out of 25 - Ghetto Boy

Round 10: 8th, 16 votes out of 28 - All My Friends (with Snakehips feat. Chance the Rapper)

Round 11: 1st, 18 votes out of 23 - Know Better

Round 12: 15th, 13 votes out of 38 - 2 On (feat. ScHoolboy Q)

Tinashe's done very well considering only one of those entries is a chart hit!! Well played Jon tbh x
Janet under performed slightly from my expectations! But then again, how was I supposed to know you'd all screw over All For You and Together Again the way that you all did! I'm still disgusted by All For You's performance. :(
I'm so, SO happy y'all responded and pointed 'Know Better' and 'Ghetto Boy' (particularly the former... A WIN!!) as strongly as you all did. Thank you  2 of my ABSOLUTE favourites by her.
