Except ACR didn't come "too quickly" - the track had already peaked, so ACR was used for its exact purpose! ACR isn't stopping it being a massive hit, it's just moving it down the chart.

Well true, just seemed to fall abruptly and then fall even faster once on ACR compared to some other songs like 'Blinding Lights' or 'Breaking Me'.

Biography

A Canadian singer and dancer, Tate McRae makes emotive alternative pop. Following her viral emergence in 2017, she released her debut EP, All The Things I Never Said, featuring the Billie Eilish and Finneas O'Connell co-write "Tear Myself Apart."

Born Tate Rosner McRae in 2003, the Calgary native initially started out as a dancer at age six and studied at the Alberta Ballet. She entered her first dance competition in 2011 and later took the silver medal at the final round of the Youth America Grand Prix in New York City in 2015. Out of the competition, she earned a scholarship for a two-week intensive course at the Berlin State Ballet School. The following year, McRae competed on FOX's So You Think You Can Dance: The Next Generation, finishing in third place. Along with dance, she developed an interest in singing and acting, appearing as the voice of the rag doll Spot Splatter Splash in Nickelodeon's Lalaloopsy animated series. In 2017, she launched her own YouTube channel by posting a song she had written in one day. The video went viral and helped build buzz for McRae. More songs followed, and she eventually signed with RCA. In 2020, she released her debut EP, All the Things I Never Said. Included on the album was the the song "Tear Myself Apart," co-written by Billie Eilish and Finneas O'Connell. - iTunes

Why is 'Cardigan' falling relatively fast, is it not getting playlist support?

tbh it's performing as I expected! It's not too commercial, the spotify playlisting is lowkey terrible (it's still on most the main playlists but v. low down) and I think the only radio playlisting it's getting are the Radio 1/2 stations + I think esp with the surprise album drop, more people are still checking the album out as a whole rather than going back to the lead single in a traditional sense aha!

I hope they start pushing exile from next week (or two weeks at the latest), that's the smash of the album and cardigan has done its job so it's time to move on! (Tho knowing Tay's team the rest of the era will be a disaster like the last two </3)

Can The Weeknd have another hit from his album or has 'Blinding Lights' overshadowed that for him?

imagine airplay will focus on the new one with calvin anyway now.

Well true, just seemed to fall abruptly and then fall even faster once on ACR compared to some other songs like 'Blinding Lights' or 'Breaking Me'.

It's having a similar decline to songs like Say So, death bed, etc! And Breaking Me's making downward progress similarly now too. Blinding Lights is not really comparable as it's just a monster hit, in line with Someone You Loved and Dance Monkey in the top tier of hits from the past couple of years.

Why didn't they play that Abra Cadabra track? Was it because of the lyrics?

Last week's position and the chart run don't match!

Why didn't they play that Abra Cadabra track? Was it because of the lyrics?

No, they played it before, they just... chose not to today.

Yeh 'Exile' is a real standout.

All your points are correct too in terms of the genre and non-commercial nature of it plus a immediate album release does help as people check the whole body of work rather than individual singles.

Biography

Topic started his career as a producer of numerous artists and then released "Light It Up", which kicked things off at the latter end of 2014. The track charted almost instantly. His debut album "Miles" entered the German as well as the Austrian charts. His sophomore single "Home (feat. Nico Santos)" easily claimed platinum status in Germany and double platinum in Australia. Followed up by "Find You (feat. Jake Reese) which featured Dutch-artist Jake Reese, "Break My Habits and "Perfect" - the collaboration with Ally Brooke, globally recognized as an essential part of the multi award-winning pop act Fifth Harmony. Topic & Nico Santos brought the successful union back to life in 2020 with the single "Like I Love You". With his current single "Breaking Me" ft. A7S he sets completely new standards in the genre, which he describes as "melancholic dance music". The song quickly reached gold status in Germany and has become a global hit by reaching the Global Top 50 with numerous national and international chart entries. - Spotify

Very odd they skipped a re-entry there, especially as they played it previously & it's re-peaked.

This Eilish wannabe song can be flushed...

^Cardigan is now like song #65 or something on Hot Hits :/

You Broke me First is starting to grown on me, still sounds a bit like a Billie Eilish copycat though

The East Rukahavian BJSC entry getting another chart play. Really pleased that this become a UK Chart hit.
First time ive heard that tate McCrae track, its very good actually. Thought for some reason it was more generic grime music.
No, they played it before, they just... chose not to today.

I thought it was a new entry, but it debuted at 39 few weeks ago then it got knock off the top 40.
