Posted August 30, 20204 yr Hi All Join us on Bank Holiday Monday in conjunction with Radio 2 as we count down the top 50 Best selling Britpop Singles of All time! Relive the great Britpop wars of Blur and Oasis, Manics, Suede, Pulp, and Supergrass (with a host of others) to see what our most popular Britpop hit of all time is..........
August 30, 20204 yr I could be way off here but one song come straight to my head for what I think could be #1 here
August 30, 20204 yr Author Chances are you're right- I assume it will include download sales and streaming so it should look quite interesting to see what is shifting under the radar.
August 30, 20204 yr Thanks for this Gezza! My guess for the top 5: 1. Wonderwall 2. Don’t Look Back In Anger 3. Country House 4. Common People 5. Bittersweet Symphony 3-5 are guess work as I have no idea on sales!
August 30, 20204 yr Author I guess it all depends on how they did on downloads, and of course whether they use the higher or lower sales for the 94-96 period which will make a big difference, and what they consider "Britpop"....so many variables
August 30, 20204 yr I know what I consider Britpop, be prepared for the odd rant if they stretch it beyond 1997!
August 30, 20204 yr Author Personally I'd consider it indie from 1993 to 1998 (maybe the first Suede album plus "Modern Life Is Rubbish" until maybe the first Embrace album)
August 30, 20204 yr Personally I'd consider it indie from 1993 to 1998 (maybe the first Suede album plus "Modern Life Is Rubbish" until maybe the first Embrace album) For me absolutely not after 1997.
August 30, 20204 yr Will be listening tomorrow. Should be a good listen and guess Jo Whiley is the best host.
August 30, 20204 yr Which I suppose illustrates the problem haha Well, we shall see what radio 2 go with! Thinking about 1998, I guess Embrace and Catatonia could stretch the point.
August 31, 20204 yr interesting to see what they consider britpop are Radiohead britpop? Skunk Anansie? guess Cranberries won't, unless they are on some of the best of Britpop CDs I have :D
August 31, 20204 yr yes me too but some Radiohead fans get offended at the mention of Radiohead being Britpop :D but weren't many Irish bands considered Britpop too? like Divine Comedy, that's a quitnessential Britpop to me
August 31, 20204 yr Author yes me too but some Radiohead fans get offended at the mention of Radiohead being Britpop :D but weren't many Irish bands considered Britpop too? like Divine Comedy, that's a quitnessential Britpop to me Divine comedy were from Northern Ireland and therefore British strictly speaking.
August 31, 20204 yr I may create a Now That's What I Call Britpop based on this chart sometime in the near future.
August 31, 20204 yr Oasis will obviously dominate - the question is by how much. I think Whatever will be the surprise high achiever in this chart
August 31, 20204 yr Author Are we all warming up? I've got my bottle of Hooch and some cheesy chips to celebrate.......
August 31, 20204 yr I’ll be here soon - watched the fast show and shooting stars last night to get in the mood!
