Actually I think the 1st place track may rival Stay in my affections

I thought it might.

Have you seen anything so far that surprised you in being a top 10 seller or is your memory of these things intact?

I can pretty much remember everything as this is the decade where I followed the charts religiously. There is one every now and again - like You Are Not Alone for instance - where I think really?!!! I swear nobody seemed to like that much even at the time! I was so surprised when it made #1. I thought MJ was too much of a fan base act for him to climb after entering at #3
Considering 1995 is my favourite year for music ever, the majority of the biggest sellers are major stinkers!

I'm in a similar position. I probably would have to think for a few minutes to come up with the 10 from 1993 as Mr Blobby would not be immediately obvious for me.

I also thought Wonderwall was the 12th best seller of 95.

Strangely I don’t recall wonderwall being top 10 either

Oh god “Earth Song”, after that documentary last year I really can't bring myself to listen to Michael Jackson anymore - and the total overblown GUFF that he was releasing in the 1990s is no great loss.

4th place - Céline Dion - Think Twice

5.7

So, this ain't the revelation I expected. I thought I'd really enjoy it. I loved it when it hadn't become a hit - then it was everywhere. And the more I listened the more hidden the hooks became. I mean, where are there? If someone asked you, what would you say? No, no. no. no....

Also, who the hell was buying it 22 weeks into it's chart career on it's 7th week at number 1? 50,000 people apparently. And it still had another 9 weeks of chart life left.

Oh my I cannot agree with this! Who Is It is my favourite song of his, that rhythm and baseline

I liked Think Twice at the time, although I think in retrospect the teenage chart geek in me just loved that it was such a slow burner

3th place - Coolio Featuring L.V. - Gangsta's Paradise

6.0

Another disappointment - I thought I'd be praising this from a great height but it's coming across as lackluster, and has not really invited repeated plays while re-listening. It's clearly a quality single but compared to the likes of Regulate, I Got 5 On It, it doesn't feature in my mind as a rap favourite.

I did like Think Twice back in the day but I agree with the consensus here, maybe I liked its chart run more than the song itself :D

I kinda hated those Jacko ballads, too saccharine but the GP seemed to love them. But I always thought Jacko was better at upbeat songs than ballads.

and poor Wonderwall, overplayed for sure but still a good song in there, sure it's better than Robson/Jerome and Simply Red.

2nd place - Take That - Back for Good

7.8

Yay! :w00t: A song that has surpassed my expectations. I thought this would lag behind Gangsta's Paradise, but it's truly wonderful thing. Some of Garry's finest lyrics, great structuring and some of their most golden harmonies (perhaps apart from the repeated songtitle). It was most played song of the year on the radio, too.

A triumph.

Alas, no. I mean, they're all poor (half of this 10 scored between 4.0 and 4.7), but when Liam starts that first verse it's time to change the record. I've never been anti-Oasis but I'd prefer to hear Roll With It over this.

haha fair enough

not a fan of Take That myself, more of anti-Gary Barlow person :D

no clue what will be #1... so far Wonderwall is the best for me

1st place - Everything But The Girl - Missing (Todd Terry Remix)

8.3

I don't really need to say much about this song. Following a raised profile in the form of a successful collaboration with Massive Attack, the release of this could not have been timed better. 1995 was in need of quality dance music and this delivered in the most unexpected way.

What is perplexing is that it didn't sell a million given that its chart run to the end of the year was 8-6-6-4-3-3-4-4-5-5-5, when all around it were Gangsta's Paradise, I Believe and Earthsong.

1993 top 3 i like them all, though meatloaf less than i liked it at the time when i think it peaked at 2 in my charts. Haddaway is great but the one that topped my chart was Life. Which no one remembers :o Mr Vain was a top 10, haddaway hit 2 from memory for me as well.

Will review 1994 when back in premier inn from a day in lincoln, im on a minibreak and using a phone
