Posted September 15, 20204 yr Released today, the latest BBC presenter salaries. The one that sticks out like a sore thumb and which is being criticised on Twitter and other forums is Zoe Ball. Is she really worth a 300%+ rise, over £1 million a year just for Radio 2's breakfast show? Any other BBC work is not included in this figure btw. She didn't get anything like that for her first year in the slot but her pay has shot up this year despite her losing a million listeners. September 15, 20204 yr Author Why does Scott Mills earn more for the afternoon show than Greg James does for the Breakfast show? On Radio 2 the brekkie host is the highest earner by far. Wogan and Evans were on £1 million so guess it goes with the show. Some say it's how much they're worth individually and how much they could be poached for by other stations. Why has Ken Bruce got a 100k rise this year for doing exactly the same show? I bet Sara Cox wishes she'd got the R2 breakfast show. She may do after Ball. 5 times as much nearly for broadcasting at breakfast rather than early evening. Edited September 15, 20204 yr by Crazy Chris
September 15, 20204 yr Author Vanessa Feltz does two live BBC radio shows every morning. Early breakfast on Radio Two, 5-6.30 am then dashes across the road to do three hours 7-10 on BBC Radio London. People say she's greedy and should give up the Radio 2 slot to someone else. It's often been reported that Radio 2 would like to extend Early breakfast to 7am but she'd have no time to get to BBC London then, unless she broadcast from Radio 2 studios. Jeremy Vine's on Ch5 from 9.15 to 11.15 am then does his R2 show 12 until 2. He does record the last part of his Ch.5 show though so he can get to Radio 2 and do some preparation. More salaries. Whilst I don't agree that the presenter of a radio breakfast show should be paid that much - it's actually less than what Chris Evans was paid for doing the exact same job before her. Last year only reflected a couple of months which is why this year appears to be such a huge rise. The same rise would've gone to whoever inherited the breakfast slot from Chris Evans.
September 15, 20204 yr Author I mean, Zoe's even on nearly 3 times the salary of BBC DG Tony Hall, who's on 499k. That can't be right! Edited September 15, 20204 yr by Crazy Chris

Yes I know that. It's just too much.
September 16, 20204 yr Why does Scott Mills earn more for the afternoon show than Greg James does for the Breakfast show? It’s this thing called experience.
September 16, 20204 yr Author It’s this thing called experience. To me there should be a set rate on all the national networks per hour or per show for everyone and then it's fair. There often is on local radio. Edited September 16, 20204 yr by Crazy Chris
September 16, 20204 yr To me there should be a set rate on all the national networks per hour or per show for everyone and then it's fair. There often is on local radio. You seem to be under the impression that someone who does a three-hour show works a maximum of three hours and five minutes per day. The amount of preparation time will vary depending on the type of show, but there will always be some involved. As ever with these figures, there is no context. How much do Ant and Dec get paid? How much do ITN newsreaders get?

September 16, 20204 yr Author Is BBC a government funded organisation? Through a TV licence that we all pay.
September 16, 20204 yr As much as I hate to see these sorts of ludicrous salaries for anyone, they'll move elsewhere, because other stations will pay that. And the BBC needs some names to keep viewership. On a more general principle, I'd criticise all of them, I'm not sure why you or others would single out the highest earning woman.

I criticised her because of the huge jump from last year and not because of her gender. As has been pointed out last year was only 3 months o the breakfast show though.
September 16, 20204 yr I don’t quite get the purpose of this thread. Okay, they get paid a lot. Okay, it’s frustrating. Okay, you’re jealous.
September 16, 20204 yr Through a TV licence that we all pay. So a normal business model. It’s not like these people are being paid out of your (not yours specifically obv) taxes.
September 16, 20204 yr Author I don’t quite get the purpose of this thread. Okay, they get paid a lot. Okay, it’s frustrating. Okay, you’re jealous. Am not jealous at all. They've axed a lot of local radio weekend and evening shows though to save money. Well rested them due to Covid but they're apparently not returning. Edited September 16, 20204 yr by Crazy Chris

Wasn't it a couple of years ago that the BBC gender pay gap came up? They've probably adjusted some salaries due to that process, so they can have a highest-earning female presenter earning similar to the male ones.
September 16, 20204 yr Y’all are paying a certain family to sit on their asses in luxury so why are you singling out one organisation that can choose what salaries to pay its employees. Edited September 16, 20204 yr by ɥɔʇᴉq
September 16, 20204 yr It’s a popular sport for the far right to kick the bbc. They seem to pretend it has left wing agenda and take joy in trying to defund it and kick it to death so that it moves more and more towards what they believe a broadcaster should look like (Fox News or Daily Mail but make it TV)
