Where did the sudden explosion come from? Did everyone else just drop? It seems odd that a song that’s been out since October, and that was slowing down all of a sudden received new popularity.. unless the Jesy thing played a part.

I think it would have been behind blinding lights on the old rules if it weren't for the download surge, but would have been #1 officially regardless!

'positions' also went to ACR, which was occupying the top spot until Mariah got there. Everything lining up well with their ACR swerve and dedication of the fans *.*

(and the label kicking into action at last with the discounting x)

So happy that this is looking like another chart topper for them

They'd have beat Positions regardless this week! Even before the sales push.

Oh wow thanks for clarifying! I presumed that wasn't the case due to still being #1 on both Spotify and Apple but I guess they have a big advantage on Amazon and iTunes. Plus streaming gaps not being huge right now. Well, yay, good on them! If they get there then this will easily be their best #1 for me

"Old Rules" chart where ACR doesn't exist:

20.7k Little Mix

17.8k The Weeknd

So they're coming for a genuine #1, not a "fake" one spurred on by Blinding Lights being on ACR!

They're going to be #1 on sales too, meaning they're swerving a small list of #1 singles that never reached #1 on at least one of the three main metrics (sales, audio streaming, and video streaming, the latter starting in July 2018). For the record, the list consists of:

DJ Khaled feat. Rihanna & Bryson Tiller - Wild Thoughts

Calvin Harris feat. Pharrell Williams, Katy Perry & Big Sean - Feels

Lil Dicky feat. Chris Brown - Freaky Friday

Ellie Goulding - River

Drake - Toosie Slide

Internet Money & Gunna feat. Don Toliver - Lemonade

All of those were "fake" #1s, except Lil Dicky's Freaky Friday, which simply performed more consistently than its competition!

Thanks Joseph!

Yeah the "old rules" chart currently looks like this:

1 Little Mix

2 Weeknd

3 24kGolden

4 Ed

5 Joel / MNEK

6 Ariana

now wishing ACR didn't exist so this feat could look even more impressive than it already does.
I knew it was a smash when I kept hearing all of my colleagues singing it and asking if I liked the "New Little Mix song", oh honey, they don't even know.

I know it doesn't matter at this point but I find it so odd that their team haven't even once tweeted "Sweet Melody 59p for limited time!" Or "we're so close to #1, please stream" or something?

They’ve always been the same I guess they like to achieve things based on quality and fans rather than ‘begging’

I don’t understand why though because loads of artists do it now..

I can’t fault RCA in the end though actually listening, Social Media ads, all songs reduced and another version added!

This is what we need to start seeing from them is reacting when it’s close!!

Ed down to 8 on Apple and 6 on Amazon ^_^

Edited by Mr. C. Joel

Coming for their 5th number one (hopefully) 10 years after their first.. I mean how many pop groups have done that?

Not sure. Did the Supremes do it?

Not in the UK charts.

This climbed up to #5 on the Youtube chart which I believe is from Monday.

Is it out of the question that they could get a second week? It seems like their lead on Amazon was doing it for them even before the buying spree and with all of the top songs being ahead on different platforms could they sneak in one more week?

I was thinking exactly the same...

It’s going to be relatively close again next week.

Ed’s fallen to 7 on Amazon now, while they remain at 1.

Justin’s a threat but he’s at 50 on Amazon...

The hype around being number 1 could actually swing it for them again.
