"KM'94" - This is a really great album that marked a stark contrast to everything she's ever done before & yet this is something that Kylie needed to do, take a different direction artistically. This was a very brave & bold move as if Kylie stayed with PWL for another album, then she may have not had the career she's had. The album highlights a classy & mature production with its mixture of laid back dance tracks, power ballads & funky R&B numbers that makes for a very solid body of work.

"Confide In Me" - Sets the tone perfectly for what's to come with its beautiful full string orchestra & haunting vocals where Kylie hits those high notes with such ease & showing the world that not only she can sing, but she was a true artist. "Surrender" - is again different with some cool breathy vocals & a nice dance beat running throughout. "If I Was Your Lover" - A very sassy little number that shows some great diversity. "Put Yourself In My Place" - An epic ballad with some superb classy production. "Dangerous Game" - Tender beautiful & yet intense at the same time. "Automatic Love" - Another outstanding yet fun track that shows more of Kylie's fantastic vocals. ""Time Will Pass You By" - A gorgeous uplifting dance anthem that closes the album beautifully & WHY wasn't this a single.

"Where Is The Feeling" - This is fine in its original album form, but way too long but has a fun beat to it. "Where Has The Love Gone" - If this was shorter then this could have been so much better as its a really nice chilled out dance anthem. Then there's "Falling" which is decent with some sexy vocals & lush beats, but doesn't really stand out for me.

Thanks for that response Nina!

That Kylie Minogue album from 94 just shook me at first. I was like wow ok she is an artist. A definite overlooked album by the GP but I really love it.

DISCO however was my biggest surprise here. Never did I think before doing this that her most recent album would place as high as third. I was completely blown away when I heard it. I knew I liked Say Something a lot but the whole DISCO album is just so good literally an incredible album and to do that 30+ years into your career just means you are a legend.

Excited to reveal my winner tomorrow! Two very different albums and two very different types of successes. One a huge critical success / cult success now (although not so much at the time) yet an album what for some reason didn’t do well commercially. The other a gigantic commercial success and another imperial phase within her career.

I'm gonna guess IP is your fave Kylie album...using the high ranking of KM94 as my clue ^_^

I think I also have IP and DISCO in my Top 3. DISCO is so new and of-the-moment though, so it's all still up in the air :P

Edited by dabblie

I love how different the top two are as well in terms of sound. It’s so hard to think of how I’d rate her albums but Impossible Princess almost always does well on Kylie rates despite it not being a success commercially. I think if she released Kylie Minogue 94 and Impossible Princess after Light Years and Fever they both could have had far greater success.

Good to see you also have great taste!

Based on your ranking of Kylie's album I predict Impossible Princess to be your winner.

I’ll announce it this evening!

I’ll perhaps post it sometime after the chart update as I imagine the DISCO album thread could get busy between 5 and 6.

"Disco" - This album is just freaking INCREDIBLE!, us fans have been asking Kylie for many years for a full on Disco album & not only did she finally deliver one, but she created what is perhaps the finest body of work of her entire career to date. This will be a very hard act to follow. With 16 tracks they each creates an incredible collection of anthems with no bad tracks in sight (maybe 1 or 2 fillers), yet everything is enjoyable in their own sparkling ways.

Just gonna post my review that I did a few weeks ago so here goes...

Magic
What a great way to open the album with this smooth & classy track that (pardon the pun) is pure Disco heaven with its cool sophisticated rhythms & slick production which gives the whole thing a colourful uplifting vibe with so many references to previous classics in this genre. So joyful & euphoric, this already ranks as one of Kylie’s staple singles & perfect choice for single #2.

Miss a Thing
This blends in with the previous track so perfectly with cool Disco-pop sounds & Kylie’s amazingly soft & sensual vocals which gives this a nice chilled out vibe that oozes Kylie’s usual style & class. Mature in sound and superbly crafted, Kylie really shows off some great song-writing skills here. Just all-round fantastic, this must be a future single at some point.

Real Groove
The party continues with this infectious banger that begins with a bit of 90’s house piano before heading into a bouncy chorus that has some fun vocal effects & a great sultry melody that glides along beautifully. Definitely one of my fave tracks on this album.

Monday Blues
Switching things up with this quick & sassy number with a lot going on in the production & a ripping chorus that’s hard to understand some of the lyrics at times, but that doesn’t stop this very uplifting anthem from being a hell of a lot of fun which never takes itself too seriously & neither is Kylie’s approach to this song.

Supernova
Another stomping track with a wicked beat, strong commanding vocals that are well placed & a more hard-edged production than anything we’ve heard so far with pumping verses & sensational chorus & of course a very authentic 70’s soundscape. A firm strong standout that may well be another potential single choice.

Say Something
Now we finally get to the lead single & kicking off this era with style that has more of a modern Disco style than the other tracks on the album & yet represents something very different musically for Kylie with some cool grinding guitar licks, stellar euphoric production & a beautiful message about the difficult times we are currently living in. The multi layered vocals & choir adds a superb touch to this already fantastic number. This has to be one of Kylie’s finest musical moments of her career.

Last Chance
Yep you can instantly hear the ABBA nods & yet another well-crafted song with fun verses & a stomping chorus, along with an infectious production that will get stuck in your head. Pure joyful camp fun. Dare I say it yet another highlight on this fabulous album.

I Love It
The buzz single that came only weeks before the album & it’s a great little number that delves deeper into the Disco territory with some slight Latin vibes, along with some bouncy rhythms & a catchy chorus that grooves along at a smooth pace. Although this isn’t as strong as the first 2 singles, still a good track & plus really love the trumpets in the middle which gives this an extra lift.

Where Does the DJ Go?
Continuing the 70’s sound with this short snappy number that moves along at a fast pace with its sharp bass-line & fantastic campy hooks. Pure fun & incredibly catchy this really takes you back to a more fun & care-free time.

Dance Floor Darling
This well & truly sparkling quality to it as this takes a more 80’s pop/rock sound with some amazing electric guitars thrown into the mix & of course Kylie’s vocals soars throughout this wonderful track thanks to some stellar production. Then towards the end it really cranks things up & totally goes off the rails, in the best way possible of course. This number gives me Jem & The Holograms vibes for some reason, I don’t know why.

Unstoppable
Taking things down a notch now with this funk disco styled number with an instantly addictive chorus. While this may not be as strong as the album’s other tracks, its still an impressive little number.

Celebrate You
A fitting end to the standard edition of this album with soothing & gentle harmonies with an uplifting yet personal message that’s helped by its epic production, this is just wonderful, so anthemic, euphoric, just love it a closer to end all closers.

Till You Love Somebody
The first of the 4 bonus tracks on here & we get off to a great start here with brilliant beats, great vocals & add some great disco-dance beats & you have a solid standout. This could have easily fitted on the standard edition, its more than welcome.

Fine Wine
A fun little track that bops along at a brisk pace with great opening guitars, some fun feel-good lyrics about celebrating life & plus Kylie raps, which is always fun. It’s a cute little number that’s completely throwaway. Maybe she could use this as a jingle to promote her wine range.

Hey Lonely
Another cute song with some superb beats & rhythms that flows along wonderfully with the positive message of the song. Her killer vocal’s what really sells this nice little number. Just love everything about this track.

Spotlight
The final track on this album which is very similar to the previous track (as well as some of the other tracks on here), but still a fun bop with nice grooves & a catchy chorus. Even though it treads the same ground as some of the other tracks, it’s still a nice enjoyable little closer overall.

I'm still largely agreeing with your order and comments... I have a clear favourite Kylie album and it's still in the running so I'm hoping you go for the same one!
My faves are well out at this point but i do like the remaining 2 albums alot, id be happy with either winner.

Fever and Impossible Princess both house some wonderful Kylie moments.

Both albums offer something very different musically, but together, highlight Kylie's diversity.

SECOND PLACE: IMPOSSIBLE PRINCESS (Score 88/100)

UK Peak: #10

Sales 70k+

At this point in her career releasing her longest studio album in length alongside a new image and a whole new sound. Kylie exudes a self confidence and a boss woman type vibe in all the promotional images for this album.

Released in 97, the album followed on from her self titled album what dropped three years earlier. Although in some markets like here in the UK the album was known as Kylie Minogue!

Opening the album with Too Far. And wow. This is such a dramatic opening the production is so dramatic those heavy breaths the vocal style. This is definitely how you kick off an album in style and show how you mean business. There’s a definite Britpop like influence on this. It’s a really unexpected track from Kylie but it’s definitely great.

Cowboy Style follows on with another slick production. This one is slightly better from a vocals point of view. The song builds and builds and gets better as it gets along for me. It really sounds great towards the end. I like the way it has a slight country / western hint in the production too. A foreshadow of Golden.

Some Kind Of Bliss again has a real Brit pop feel to it. It’s like something I could imagine a on trend band at the time would have released. This is the mainstream sounding song on the album so far and it’s one I’d go back to on its own as well. I like the vocals on this and the chorus is rather catchy too.

Did It Again definitely sounds quite commercial. It’s a ok song however though I don’t think it’s quite as strong as the opening three tracks but it’s by no means bad it just hasn’t hit me as hard as what those did. It’s got a very 90’s brit sound to it though.

Breathe follows and already I love the production. Those flourishes and that opening instrumental and those sultry softly sung vocals in the opening parts of the song. This is perhaps my favourite off the album so far it’s definitely hitting me and giving me all sorts of feels!

Say Hey again follows on so well from the previous track and I love the grungy type sound what this has. I love the vocals as well it’s like a dark track what would really fit a great moody video. This is definitely one I think I’d love to hear on its own. The production is so GOOD. How have I slept on this for so long!

Drunk again has some strong production throughout although at times it kinda drowns out her vocals a bit. But an immediate highlight on first listen but perhaps one that could grow. I just feel it’s a bit too manic there’s a lot happening at once. The entire iamspamspamamisink was thrown at this one.

I Don’t Need Anyone is a bit more of a rockier moment on this album but she has a whole lot of attitude on here and her vocals sound pretty strong. I can actually have seen this working as a single. This is like Kylie in a way you’ve never heard her before.

Jump is a song about the future but also acceptance and wanting to be accepted. It’s a great track in the context of the album but it’s not a real highlight on this for me. It’s still strong it kinda just ends rather suddenly.

Limbo hits me right there straight away. Fabulous production and a real highlight. This also follows on from the self acceptance theme but it’s done a bit better on this than how it was on Jump.

Through The Years. The horn section! I like this as a sultry kinda laid back affair it’s something I think would really work live as well on a tour. It’s a little less in your face than what some of this album is but it’s very strong.

Dreams, the final standard edition track is a great way to close the album. It’s a highlight on the album vocally and the production is great as well. This is one of the most interesting tracks on the album and one that I think would require a few listens to hear those little flourishes but it’s a great closer.

I also checked out the remixes of this and some bonus tracks I found on Apple and they do kinda fit the album and again to a real cohesive listen. But ultimately I can see why Love Takes Over Me didn’t make the OG tracklist. Tears however is a genuine highlight and really should’ve made the standard tracklist such a good production. This Girl is anther strong track again. It has a slight country esque production to it again and follows on the acceptance theme with Kylie saying she just wanted to be the girl she is.

This definitely feels like an artists album rather than a label driven album but it makes all the difference. It’s a definite joyous experience to hear this type of sound from Kylie.

In general, this doesn’t at all sound like Kylie. It’s pretty much the most Un Kylie like she’s ever sounded. It’s not in any way a negative though she was capable of showing this kind of artistry when given the chance. It’s bold, it’s daring, it’s out there. Not exactly mainstream but it’s a breath of fresh air to hear something like this from someone who was once a manufactured pop artist. The cross of genres as well how it’s pop, electronic, Irish folk, country, techno all in one album is something to be commended. A real unique album and so interesting to hear.

I commend the albums overall theme and I do think it’s a cohesive listen. There’s nothing here what sounds largely out of place or clunky. This is definitely something I think I’m gonna have to listen too again as I think I’ll always discover new things with this album (in a way you do with Madonna’s Ray of Light). A very very special album what I’d definitely revisit in the future.

Fully agree on your points on Breathe and I dont need anyone, these are my 2 fave tracks on IP and breathe is such an underrated single, if it was released a few years later i think it could have been a big hit, its also one of her songs that would fit well with a remix from some of todays mainstream artists.

Which means my winner is......

WINNER!!!! Fever (Score 94/100)

Uk peak #1 (2 weeks)

Sales: 1.7 million +

More More More is quite a dreamy opener. Not what I expected as an album opener actually. It’s not really in your face and feels more like something you’d hear as like a track 7 or something. It’s definitely produced well though and it’s very catchy. She sounds great on this and it is a pretty chill vibe overall. The song really gets better as it gets along the middle 8 and closing parts are where it peaks for me.

Love At First Sight follows and again kinda fits the vibe of pop anthems but with a more chill vibe as opposed to a huge pop anthem. It sonically leads on well from the opener and i can definitely see why this was a single too.

What follows on next is undoubtedly a song what changed the course of pop music forever. A song what is pretty much the signature song of Kylie Minogue. Cant Get You Out Of My Head is one of those songs what never actually gets old. I totally get why this was so big. A classic.

The title track follows and this is another strong track. The production is great. It would’ve worked as a single and this is very much Kylie in her own lane. Again the middle 8 part of this switches things up with a Britney esque dance break section sandwiched there before the final choruses hit. A very early 00s sounding track in the best possible way.

Overall the sound of this album is so perfect. It’s a perfect sound for her. She sounds great it’s produced in a sense that whilst it is of its time it’s not necessarily dated.

Give It To Me follows and is the most different sounding track so far. There’s an almost telephone ring bleep sound what we hear throughout the song. It’s a fun song about wanting something from a lover. A song what I think would go down well on a tour. Not single material but a perfect track to include on an album.

Fragile!!!! Ok what is this. The opening “oooh” and already im sold. Her vocals on this are so good. This is my favourite of the non singles. It doesn’t sound very dated either. I love this! A definite one I think I’d go back to on its own.

Come Into My World is literally my favourite thing from this era. Alongside Confide In Me I’d rate it amongst her very best. I don’t know why it’s not a real fan fave but I’ve always loved it (GRAMMYs agree too) that fits perfectly on the album where it is in the tracklisting too and I’m so glad we got that single and video for that track.

In Your Eyes another huge single follows and that never gets old too. A real bop with a fantastic production.

On The Dancefloor is a song what literally does make you want to get on the dancefloor. She’s confident throughout and it’s a perfect anthem if you’ve recently broken up with someone. An empowering track about taking control and standing your ground.

Love Affair is a real throwback kinda sound. For some reason it kinda sounds almost reminiscent of Future Nostalgia era Dua. Lyrically it’s about wanting someone to be with you but not for a long period of time. Those robotic like vocals you hear as the song progresses make me smile as you rarely hear those Cher esque kinda vocals in pop music these days.

Your Love!!! Again wow. From that opening I was taken aback. An almost Madonna esque feel to this mixed with solo Geri! Again one of the best tracks amongst the non singles. I think this could’ve really worked as a single. This was a real highlight for me.

Burning Up closes the album and what a way to close things. A huge uptempo number slightly pitched vocals but that “can you feel it burning” line sounds so good and almost sounds like something JLO would’ve released during her own imperial phase. And it’s a slinky sweet brilliant way to end this album what’s basically given me everything I’ve wanted tbh.

Whilst Light Years was a return to the more commercial sounding pop Kylie that first debuted with Fever, she does it better. It’s not a dated album despite it being 19 years old a lot of this album still actually feels quite fresh and very innovative too. This is the first era where I’ve heard influences of later albums released. This is probably her album that’s had the most impact upon pop culture in terms of people taking influence from her.

There’s nothing on here what’s bad. It’s pretty much bop after bop but it doesn’t have a jukebox feel either like the sound throughout is cohesive and the tracks flow well.

It might not be as innovative or as personal as the likes of Impossible Princess but it doesn’t really pretend to be anything other than what it is and that is it’s strength and whilst KM94 and Impossible Princess were a bit more introspective and daring they each had slight moments of confusion or imperfections throughout. With this I can’t find any faults. There’s nothing I can say anything about what isn’t like gleaming praise. As a pop album it is pretty flawless.

It’s a solid pop album and a reason why Kylie really is such a pop force. This is genuinely a brilliant album. I’d almost guarantee I’d listen to this happily again all the way through with no skips. The only track I’d say what isn’t a solid 9.5+/10 weirdly is the opening track More More More but I can see why it’s the opening track as it does kinda set the pace

The singles from this album were immaculately chosen too. What a way to represent the album. I mean almost anything from this could’ve been a single but a flawless execution. It’s my favourite era by Kylie going by single releases they all rank high in my list of my favourites by her. And there are some very very strong album tracks here as well. She really was just getting everything right in this era she was basically in her own lane running pop and doing it globally too! She was even a US success for a time with this era.

Yep this is basically pop perfection!

While i dont fully agree with your rankings of the album, i do agree with your opinions on some of the songs from your top 2 albums, earlier i mentioned how i was glad you are a fan of breathe and i dont need anyone from IP, its good to also see you favour the brilliant Fragile which ia a huge fave of mine,
