Review: what a great pop album, finally a pop record that doesn’t want to sound pretentious and artsy.

9/10 Who I Am

8/10 In and Out of Love

8/10 Good Enough

8/10 Overload

7/10 Fearless (Feat. Nadia Rose)

6/10 Blame It on Me

5/10 Here I Am

5/10 Escape

3/10 End of Everything

3/10 Nowhere to Run

Why not include High Heels, I was thinking? It is on the bonus CD and the Moto Blanco Remix is basically an improved version of a song that is very much part of this era - sonically, timing-wise, artwork-wise :) (just my thought ofc, but reckoned I would suggest)

Who I Am - 8

Blame It on Me - 7.5

Good Enough - 7.5

Escape - 6

Overload - 6

Fearless (Feat. Nadia Rose) - 7

Here I Am - 7

Nowhere to Run - 7.5

In and Out of Love - 7

End of Everything - 6.5

Self Love - 4

Into You - 7.5

Touch Me - 6.5

High Heels (just in case :) ) - 5

(So it's a 6.6/10 for me on average - or exactly 7/10 if only considering the standard 10-track album)

Havent listened to the bonus tracks yet (release them on streaming QUEEN C!!) so here are some thoughts about the main tracks:

Who I Am Still her best single so far this era. A total bop and probably her best lead single so far from her career. It's a great album opener, really sets off how the album works, and for once, it has cross appeal! 9/10

Blame It on Me A great tune. It's really grown on me after finding it just ok when it was initially released. The video kind of killed it for me, but the song itself is a TOTAL BOP! The one-two punch of these two songs form the strongest album opening of her career, for sure! 9/10

Good Enough It's a good bop. The verses kill it for me, but I could see it being a single. The only issue is the lyrics for me... I dont quite get how everyone is crying for it to be a single... not with those verses, for sure... 6/10

Escape The worst song on the album for me. It's just a bit meh... It works well in the flow of the album but overall its forgetable 4/10

Overload Cute and it could be a 10, but again the lyrics really are clunky in the verses and middle 8... To the point that it kind of ruins the song for me... I will give it a 6/10 purely because you can tell it's a potentially really good song, that sounds like they just rushed the writing process... so yeah 6/10

Fearless (Feat. Nadia Rose) Her worst single this era and one of the most pointless releases of her career so far. It just goes nowhere... It's a good album track, for sure but as a single to launch the album? No wonder it did nothing on streaming or radio... My main issue with it is how absolutely vaccuous it sounds in its message. Like, it pretends to be this empowering song whilst saying absolutely nothing about anything lol I will give it a 5/10 purely because it flows well in the context of the album and the production is very rich and I like that.. 5/10

Here I Am This is ok, not my type of thing and I find it a bit 'try hard' in its message and lyrics. But it has a great production which elevates it beyond other worse songs. 6/10

Nowhere to Run I like dark and moody Mel. Again, some of the lyrics are clunky but overall this is a great track! More of this please 8/10

In and Out of Love Not my favourite single, but not bad overall. It's a fun track that unfortunately sounds a bit like she is chasing current sounds a bit too hard... Apart from that, it's a bop... 8/10

End of Everything A nice album closer and a bit of a deviation from the rest of the album, but I look forward to her doing it live! 7/10

Overall, I would give this a 8 out of 10.

Although I've listened to the album a few times, today is the first time I've been able to sit down properly with the lyrics and really give it a listen through. Overall I really enjoyed it, it's quite different for Mel while also being very authentically her at the same time.

My ranking

1. Who I am - 10/10

[best track easily, it's so strong up there as one of her best ever for me now]

2. In and out love – 10/10

[This just grows and grows and grows for me, could potentially overtake Who I am in the future as it's more sing along]

3. Blame it on me - 9/10

[Love this track don't know why it's not a 10 for me, I think it just doesn't quite hit that peak like the other two for me so it's a high 9 instead]

4. Good enough – 9/10

[brilliant, really catchy, really sing along]

5. Fearless 9/10

[initially wasn't so keen on this one but it has grown on me SO much absolutely love the vibe of it now, really smooth feels like a 90's TLC vibe to it]

6. End of everything 8/10

[This may be higher after a few more listens, a change in style her voice sounds lovely on it]

7. Here I am 8/10

[Another belter of a track, gonna enjoy singing this in the car]

8. Nowhere to run 7/10

[Feels kinda moody and more old Mel style somehow]

9. Overload 6/10

[Catchy enough a little repetitive for me for it to be higher]

10. Escape – 5/10

[The only track I was slightly disappointed with, it fits well on the flow of the album but I find it a bit average so it's got an average score]

Overall I'd give the album a solid 8/10, I think Overload and Escape just let it down slightly to justify me giving it a 9. Still a great body of work.

10 In & Out of Love

10 Blame It On Me

09 Overload

08 Who I Am

08 Good Enough

08 End of Everything

07 Fearless

07 Here I Am

07 Nowhere to Run

05 Escape

Really strong record. Definitely her best since at least The Sea, probably since Beautiful Intentions. Overload is tugging at my weave on the daily.

10/10 - Who I Am

6/10 - Blame It on Me

8/10 - Good Enough

9/10 - Escape

7/10 - Overload

4/10 - Fearless (Feat. Nadia Rose)

8/10 - Here I Am

7/10 - Nowhere to Run

7/10 - In and Out of Love

7/10 - End of Everything

Bonus tracks:

5/10 - Self Love

8/10 - Into You

1/10 - Touch Me

I have to say that I was very very excited for listening this album in full, and I love it, but I think there are too many things not very well done.

The songs are all a bit short. What is the problem with Into You?? Only 2' 40"... it is one of my favourites but this lenght.. i don't know why.

Talking about the deluxe box. Why 3 LP, if the second and the third don't have anything new? A remix, a live version, a demo... but the same tracks again? Is a nonsense. And the price por that, i think it doesn't worth it.

All the packages in general are so poor. Some lyrics are wrong, the booklet of the deluxe cd doesn't have the lyrics of the songs of CD2, the cassette is so homemade... i think I'm not as happy as I was supposed to be with all this releases.

But hay, the music is fantastic, i think this could be her second or third best album.

7,5/10

1. Who I Am 10

2. Blame It On Me 10

3. Good Enough 10

4. Escape 8

5. Overload 10

6. Fearless 8

7. Here I Am 5

8. Nowhere To Run 9

9. In And Out Of Love 10

10. End Of Everything 10

With hindsight, I might downgrade my rating for Good Enough.... It's a bit tooooo basic lol
Excuse you! :arrr:

It's basic, hun. Like, its a bit fun but basic.
