Kind of shocking how this is Chandelier's first Top 10 appearance.

Having only joined Buzzjack this year, based on the type of music that seems to be most popular here, I'd assumed Chandelier would be an ever-present in the top 10 of this chart. Shocked to see this is its first year in the top 10!

Chandelier is a great top 10 addition, surprised it fell as low as 90th last year really.

09 [09] M83 = Midnight City = 575pts

(13-15-44-19-101-126-251-09-09-)

(4th, 2011)

Up next a non-mover and the first of 2 songs from 2011 to reach the top 10 this year. Midnight City made a huge climb last year to rise from 251st to 9th, this year however they manage to show that wasn’t just a flash in the pan and manage to maintain its position. The song has reached the final on six occasions and this is the fifth time its managed to reach the top 20. The song is fantastic and (IMO) extremely deserving of a place in the top 10, its also nice to see the top 10 having a bit of a mix of alternative acts rather than the Buzzjack usual female pop domination. Midnight City has 1 more year left on Record of the Decade before it retires to Chelsea to hang out with Binky for good so it will be interesting to see if it can claim a higher peak in its final year.

Don't even know who that is lmao #funniejoke

ROTD quirkiness continues, the difference between last year and this year for 'Chandelier' seems entirely unexplainable  happy to see that getting a top 10 peak anyhoo.

M83 still a thing and still slaying in the top 10 :cheeseblock:

(I do one of these days wish one of their other songs could do well, but I may be reaching too far there).

Chandelier would have been my 40 pointer had I voted. It is one of my favourite songs ever and I love every aspect of it (the artist; the vocals; the lyrics; the melody; the accompaniment; the video).

Definitely planning to participate next time after enjoying this countdown!

I forgot Midnight City was top 10 last year, but highlight of the top 10 again!

(Chandelier always seemed like a low finisher in the final, that's a shock)

Great start to the top ten, both very deserving and good to see some alt music representation.

08 NE 577 2019 Dua Lipa - Don't Start Now

[8-]

[1st, 2019]

What's this, a new entry in the top 10? In fact it is the only new song from 2019 in the entirety of the top 50, so in that respect this is without a doubt your collective favourite song of last year. And I suspect it will be for many years to come, perhaps even a future Winner. It is one of the biggest Chart Hits in the Top 10, as it ended up spending nearly half a year in the UK top 10, being unlucky enough to peak at #2 as it was released at the peak of 'Dance Monkey'. If Dua hadn't already proven herself as an A-List Pop Girl with mega smashes 'New Rules' and 'One Kiss', she showed herself able to make a brilliant pop song again in 'Don't Start Now'. Helped also by its nu-disco production, supposedly inspired by Bee Gees, Daft Punk and Two Door Cinema Club. It is also comfortably her biggest song in RotD this year.

Intrigued to see how high Physical goes next year. By far my favourite song of hers
I expect DSN will continue doing well in this but I think it'll be overshadowed by 'Physical' next year (and not undeservedly, although both songs are great).

07 17 579 Lorde - Green Light

[12-17-7-]

[1st, 2017]

Entering the top 10 this year is 'Green Light', continuing a perfect top 20 run. 'Royals' seems to be her most remembered song but this for me has aged better so I'm glad it's this that is here. It is too disco influenced so it can't be too surprising that it sits side by side with Dua Lipa really. New music from her is still yet to be released since this era so maybe when she finally does follow up this could be a future winning contender. Hopefully she comes back with something upbeat like this again as this remains her best single.

06 [13] Gotye (feat. Kimbra) = Somebody that I used to Know = 608pts

(19-62-49-15-80-11-13-06-)

[1st, 2012]

Just missing out on a place in the top 5 by 10pts is the last remaining alternative song; Somebody That I Used to Know. The song has been top 20 on 4 different occasions however this year climbs 7 places to a new peak and into the top 10 for the first time. Somebody that I Used to Know topped its 2012 heat and in the final vote is the highest 2012 song. Barring Calvin Harris’ feature on We Found Love, the ROTD top 5 this year is once again dominated by female pop… although all 5 of them are bangers to be fair. I guess its unlikely that another Gotye song will have the impact as this and it has just 2 years left before exiting, it will be interesting to see if it can climb into the top 5 before exiting for good….

which means, just 5 left remain to take the title this year... (in alphabetical order...)

Ariana Grande - Into You

Ariana Grande - No Tears Left To Cry

Rihanna (feat. Calvin Harris) - We Found Love

Rita Ora - Anywhere

Robyn - Dancing On My Own

rooting for Robyn as all the rest of favs in the top 10 dropped out already (Gotye, Green Light, Chandelier)

come on Robyn!!!

out of that top 10 my top 5 would be:

1 Gotye

2 Robyn

3 Chandelier

4 Green Light

5 M83

I'd love Robyn to bow out with a victory

As someone who stopped following popular music for about four years and has used things like this to listen to a lot of the songs I've missed I see why a lot are so popular even if they're not to my taste, but I find that Rita Ora song being so high quite baffling.

Rihanna Harris or Rita Ora to win.
