7. Flo Rida – R.O.O.T.S.

Release year: 2009 UK Chart Peak: #5 Self-Titled: No

US rapper Flo Rida released his second studio album R.O.O.T.S. (short for “Route Of Overcoming The Struggle”) in 2009 and it featured a host of popular names including Nelly Furtado, Ne-Yo, Akon, Ke$ha and Wynter Gordon. He went on to have 3 UK Top 40 singles from this era, including the #1 single Right Round. Concerning the artwork, Flo Rida stated that the album cover was done this way because he admittedly has an 'addiction to being shirtless' and he wanted to show his body, and show his addiction to the world. Several words related to struggle are italicised around the cover too.

The inclusion of the words in the crop really helped. Plus 'Right Round' came on shuffle for me recently so that was a timely reminder of that era :kink:

8. Dave – Psychodrama

Release year: 2019 UK Chart Peak: #1 Self-Titled: No

Dave has gone on to become a major name in the world of rap music in the last couple of years. His debut album Psychodrama was a UK #1 album in early 2019 and four of the tracks from the album made it into the UK Singles Chart that year which were Black, Location, Disaster and Streatham, which are all coincidentally one word each. The album became the most-streamed first-week British rap album in the UK with a total of 23.6 million streams. The hitmaker also explained that the bold artwork of Dave's head on fire with blue flames represents the "chaos, the rage and the fire inside of [him] mixed with sadness and a mellow nature" which he felt whilst creating the acclaimed LP.

I knew #6 was something I recognised. It was the last one I got before I sent my answers in as I clocked it when I went through my iTunes library to see if any covers I had were in there and I’d downloaded something from that album.

BJSC 129 plug session is happening now but will try and multi-task this as well!

'Psychodrama' was one of the most recognisable for me  I checked it out after Dave's BRITS performance of 'Black' and was blown away.

Dave was easy one to guess though I've never listened to his album :kink:

Wrong Answers:

I did really enjoy 'Get Lucky' and 'Lose Yourself To Dance' was decent, but never checked out the album. Thankfully it was quite a recognisable cover!
I’ve never heard the album in full but I did recognise the cover of Daft Punk’s quite quickly although the title took a bit longer to come to mind. I had Virtual Access Memories down at first.

That was one of the last ones to click for me! I initially guessed 2004 for the bonus question about most common year, but changed it, so hopefully that was a wise decision.

11. Elbow – The Seldom Seen Kid

Release year: 2008 UK Chart Peak: #5 Self-Titled: No

Next we have British group Elbow. Their fourth studio album was The Seldom Seen Kid and it contained two singles which reached the UK Top 40, one was the Top 20 single Grounds For Divorce and the other did not reach its peak until 4 years later with a resurgence due to the London Olympics in 2012, and that song was the beautiful song One Day Like This. Oliver East, 29, who is the artist behind the artwork said: "The cover was a result of research by me, my interpretation of the lyrics from the album and some input from the band themselves. My research saw me walking from Manchester Piccadilly train station to Bury tram stop while keeping as close to the tracks as possible without trespassing. The cover image and the images that make up the rest of the sleeve reflect the environment along this walk while conveying the themes of the album, mainly love, loss and your mates."

Night Visions was the debut album by American rock band Imagine Dragons. The album reached #2 in the UK Album Chart and was later certified 2X Platinum. Five singles were released from the album, including Radioactive, Demons, It’s Time, On Top Of The World and Hear Me; all of which reached the UK Top 40 Singles Chart. The album artwork seems to show a young lad stood atop some hexagonal pillars in a smoky atmosphere, maybe depicting some sort of dream or night vision.
