I really think the OCC might strongly consider having a strict no old songs in the chart policy after this Christmas...

Liam Payne and Sam Smith the highest SCR non Amazon songs (unless you count Liam as an Xmas song)!

They've got to do something, because if they don't then there'll come a time where the entire Top 40 is Christmas songs. I'm sure there's some people that would love that but personally I can't think of anything worse!

Is the Amazon exclusive separate from his Christmas album?

I don't think it's a problem myself, if that's genuinely what the masses are listening to then that's what the charts are there for, to reflect current popularity. There's still gonna be the odd massive non-Xmas hit like Dance Monkey last year which will fend off most of the Xmas songs which will all distil each other.

Plus when you bring in a rule axing old songs, think of the outcry when a huge star passes away and none of their songs are allowed to re-enter the chart. Would like to hear Scott Mills' explain that one on the show!

They will likely just make a Christmas chart and ban Xmas songs from it though. But I thought they would do that years ago!

So what constitutes a Christmas song?

"Last Christmas", sure, but what about "Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow"? It doesn't mention Christmas, unlike "I Just Called To Say I Love You", which does. B-)

Taylor Swift's Lover would also have to be excluded if it ever re-entered for whatever reason :heehee:
It would also be super unfair on new Christmas songs. OCC has been so desperately trying to keep up with Billboard in the last few years that they might as well just add a recurrents chart.

If they do that they might as well just dissolve the charts and have a Pop, R&B, K-POP etc chart.

The charts are meant to be a reflection of what people are buying and listening too and if that’s ‘Christmas’ songs then that’s the charts.

If that's what the masses are consuming so be it. The creation of an Xmas or Holiday chart would still not justify banishing Xmas song from the singles chart.
Just let it happen, it’s still a reflection of what people are listening to. Who cares if it’s the same songs every year? Artists should make a new hit for the charts
Just to be clear I like it as it is I just think if it becomes overwhelming every year from late November like this year they might do something. New Xmas songs obviously would be eligible to chart!
So everyone who is claiming the chart should reflect what people are listening to are in favour of radio play being incorporated into the chart I assume?
