I would be amazed if it got enough support to achieve that, even with Ariana on board! But I suppose stranger things have happened.

I'm also curious whether Merry Christmas will ever be able to peak higher than #32  Last year it made it to #54, its highest position since 1994!

Always wanted this to do well. Last year it only re-appeared so high mainly due to the anniversary edition :(

it could be quite funny if it was now #1 all of December except fort the Xmas chart

I think she's be #1 for sure on the 11th and the 18th... maybe also on the 4th as Ariana is gonna do 35K only if even

but I reckon on the 25th Ladbaby will grab the #1

Imagine the power LadBaby feels knowing that anything he releases, any Christmas, will always be number 1. Forever.

He could just cough into the microphone for three minutes this year (“Coughage Rolls”) and it would still outpeak Mariah, depressingly.

In the 27th December 2019 chart (when it reached #54) that was 3,365 sales - 249 CDs, 111 Vinyl, 167 Downloads and 2,838 Streaming :cheer: Hopefully the streaming is stronger this year!

Yeh the vinyl is sitting pride of place beside the till in my local hmv

You just can't assume that. The UK music buyer is very fickle and could soon tire of him and go for the next gimmick.

Yeh id agree with that but he will only need 45k downloads to get number one which he’s shown is easily done for him!

I'm not a massive Mariah Stan but even I want this to get #1 :D

I guess East 17 was the more popular track back in 1994 (obviously as it was No.1) but Mariah's won the war because 'All I Want For Christmas' has become more iconic and bigger over the decades.

Both Mariah and Wham's Last Christmas both deserve to be #1 and wouldn't it be great if it was during Christmas week

I would hardly say ‘Mariah won the war’ lol. East 17 prob didn’t realise how big their single would be each year too! They won because they were a big British group at the time and most likely were able to promote at the time.
it'll be #1 next week (11/12), there'll be nothing the OCC can do to stop it this time.

Let's hope not.

I don't think anyone's disputing that Stay Another Day has proved enduringly popular as well? Mariah does undeniably have the bigger song these days though, which means she has "won the war."

How many times can I stream per day that count?

10 per platform, you can also stream all the variations of the song and they count too.

Handy to know, thanks!

I guess my arguement was that east 17 probably couldn’t care less than it’s obvious Mariah has had the more successful song.

I'm not putting East 17 down at all, yes the song is still played on radio and TV, but I think in the long run Mariah's song has become much bigger and more memorable that's all.

Fair enough, I don’t doubt Mariahs song is the bigger. It’s probably one of the biggest pop songs of all time.
