We're at the halfway point with Little Mix tracks now with the 2 remaining both huge contenders to take my #1 song of the year. This is just a purely brilliant pop song that would be the perfect choice for the next single if they decide to push one. Apart from the slight blip on Positions release week, this song has held up incredibly well in my chart, only just dropping out this week, and even ended up in the top 20 of my points chart. Their vocals and harmonies really get a chance to shine here and the the layering of little riffs sound wonderful.

2020 86 My Oh My (Camila Cabello ft DaBaby)

This is comfortably her best song since New Rules for me and bags Dua her 3rd EOY top 40 hit. An instant favourite from 'Future Nostalgia', I was so delighted when it got picked as a single and became a massive hit through the DaBaby remix. The whole album is incorporates a lot of dance elements and I believe here is where it works best. It's such a funky track with its disco-inspired beat and wonky synths. I can happily listen to either the original or the single mix, DaBaby's verse works surprisingly well and fits in naturally. I wasn't too keen on the Madonna version though unfortunately.

While I would rank Reputation as my favourite Taylor album and I adore Lover, neither had her strongest singles and in turn, 'The 1' rewards Taylor with her highest EOY position since 'Bad Blood' finished top 10 back in 2015. I seem to be on an island of my own loving this track but I found it perfect transition to her new style and introduce the Folklore album. Taylor has proved herself to be a brilliant songwriter for years now and the chorus here is proof of that. Very potentially the chorus I've found myself singing along-to the most during 2020.

2019 43 Monster (21 Savage ft Childish Gambino)

2020 28 35.31

'3.15.20' was one of my favourite albums of the year but the only track to land here (apart from FLS in 2018's chart) is the country-inspired 35.31. Like most of the album, this is a deceptively dark song. The song sounds very upbeat and Gambino sounds like he's having a blast but if you pay attention to the lyrics you'd see the song is about a guy who's childhood led to him becoming a drug dealer. This sounds so TikTok ready that I'm really disappointed that it never picked up on it. Never say never though I guess.

Doja Cat's EOY History:

2019 99 Juicy (Doja Cat & Tyga)

2020 27 Boss Bitch

2020 36 BMO (Ari Lennox ft Doja Cat)

The first of two tracks from the 'Birds of Prey' soundtrack, Boss Bitch rounded off Doja's brilliant start to 2020 with her 2nd #1 in my chart for the year. This couldn't really sound much different to Say So which just shows how versatile Doja is. This is a loud, bold electropop song with heavy bass, banging beats and brash lyrics. All-in-all the perfect song to represent the confident swagger of Harley Quinn. This might not be the most acclaimed or smartest tracks of the year but it's certainly one of the most fun.

Ari is the Queen of R&B for me at the moment and this was a song that just never got old. This should really be in my top 20 at least this year, the chorus is so addictive and I haven't been able to stop myself going back to it all year. This was the joint-lead single from the deluxe version of 'Revenge of the Dreamers III' and is by far and away the best non-rap moment on the album. Let's just pretend this is at #16 instead.

Levitating didn't do anything for me initially but really has grown on me, really catchy and DaBaby works really well on it. Giving 35.31 a listen now and it's sounding pretty nice, I don't think I've heard anything from Gambino since his charting songs to an interesting re-introduction here.

This never felt like it would leave my chart for long racking up an impressive 13 weeks in my top 20 after gaining album and remix boosts that turned out to be enough to push it into the top 10 of the EOY points chart. This became the sisters' first charting hit on the Billboard charts and it's not hard to see why, this just felt like a hit single. The chorus is undeniable, their voices blend so well together and the remix brought together a who's who of current female rappers in Doja Cat, City Girls & Mulatto. The new verses were mostly good but one of the City Girls' had a pretty poor verse. Hopefully this will manage to win it's Grammy nomination for 'Best R&B Song' as it somehow manages to toe the line between fun and cool so well. They must surely just be on the cusp of a proper breakthrough, probably when Halle's live-action 'Little Mermaid' is released. How high can 'Forgive Me' get?

This is one of the most haunting songs of the year and can be quite hard to listen to. Very honestly reflecting on the fact that her was aware of how the control drugs had on his life and his lack of ability to stop it, the very direct references to Percocet, the drug that tragically led to his overdose, sting but the song somehow still manages to remain beautiful. It would be easy for a song like this to either glamorise his lifestyle or to try to sanctify the situation but this song does neither and its all the better and hard-hitting for it.

Two of Dreamville's best artists (EarthGang & J.I.D) also occasionally come together with some other rappers from Atlanta to form Spillage Village and they released their long-awaited fourth album Spillgion in 2020. While it was overall pretty sold, 'Shiva' stood out massively above the rest and it already feels crazy that it was beat to the top of my charts by MoStack/AJ Tracey's Miss Me. This is the type of track that was mastered on ROTDIII, a slow, stripped back, vulnerable effort that allows the rappers a chance to breathe and tell a story in the verses and then has a killer chorus that sticks in your mind. And fair play to Doctor Dot here, who opens with this chorus and you're instantly hooked. His voice is just so nice on the ears and paired with the backing vocals it ends up feeling so quietly epic. This song is the definition of a mood.

This potentially feels like it's ended up a little too high but Magic is still an undeniably massive tune. Originally known as Y.OFB, Bandokay & Double Lz have now progressed to using the OFB name that originated with Headie One & RV. And they've taken the name to a new level with a breakthrough year with this as a crowning highlight. Both provide some solid verses but the best part of the song is the female vocals that make the pre-chorus which I guess is a sample. It's a shame that this just missed the top 40.

One of two introductions we got last summer as a teaser for the upcoming 'The Fall Off' album, the only reason this didn't give Cole his first #1 hit in my chart is because the other one had already managed it. I don't think I've listened to LKOI without also listening to The Climb Back so I do frequently get them a bit mixed up in my mind. Both are absolutely spectacular tracks that has made TFO my most anticipated project of the year. This one has a recognisably hook (and pretty similar 'Middle Child') so this felt like the more mainstream of the two even if it still pretty non-commercial. The vocal sample that repeats through the song is so smooth and I'm all for this soulful style I think the album is going to expand on.

2020 01 You Should Be Sad

Halsey's EOY History:

2018 97 Him & I (G-Eazy & Halsey)

2020 20 You Should Be Sad

Kicking off the top 20 is the country-inspired 'You Should Be Sad' from Halsey. Id never really been taken by any of Halsey's music before but I became hooked on this after first hearing it due to the Chart. It was quite painful seeing this each week miss out on the top 10 peak it really deserved. It's an all-around wonderful package of a song, the melody is great and she sounds brilliant over it, the music video is WILD (especially with Covid eyes) and the lyrics really make an impact. The line I quoted just above is the most scathing lyric I've heard in a song for a long time and reading about the history with G-Eazy makes it even more poignant. I really wanted to rank this in the top 10 and thought it had a good chance at the start of the year but 2020 just ended up being so good that I couldn't really place it any higher.

You Should Be Sad is definitely in the top half of the charting songs this year for me and probably my favourite of Halsey's, the country vibe really suits her!

Levitating is my favourite from Future Nostalgia and the DaBaby remix elevated it for me! Great position for it

Boss Bitch is amazing too *.*
