December 11, 20205 yr Great to see so many things that have absolutely no chance of singles chart success on the A-list. This used to be normal! High Contrast, Glass Animals, Tame Impala, Easy Life, Disclosure...anyone who wants nothing but Top 40 hits on the A-list can head to Capital. There was a time when it felt R1 were attempting to emulate Capital too much in the daytime. Although the fact so much airtime is being given to Xmas songs right now might make them feel like B-list songs anyway. Edited December 11, 20205 yr by HiyaLuv!
December 12, 20205 yr Radio 1 have been playing some newer Christmas songs, just not playlisting them I guess. Today in the last hour there's been Katy Perry's Cozy Little Christmas and Liam Payne's Naughty List.
December 12, 20205 yr Author Radio 1 have been playing some newer Christmas songs, just not playlisting them I guess. Today in the last hour there's been Katy Perry's Cozy Little Christmas and Liam Payne's Naughty List. I think they do give spot plays to newer Christmas songs most years, don't they, but just not playlist them? Does anyone remember if they played Mabel or Little Mix last year for example?
December 12, 20205 yr Yeh I’m pretty sure they played both LM and Mabel last year especially nearer Christmas Day. As I said in another thread(or maybe this one last week) they also gave a lot of spins for ‘Underneath The Tree’, ‘One More Sleep’ and ‘Great Big Sled’ the years they came out. The last Xmas songs they playlisted were ‘Christmas Lights’, ‘Is This Christmas’ and seasonal songs like ‘The Power Of Love’ and ‘Somewhere Only We Know’. They also instant A Listed Band Aid 20 in 2004(very uncommon from the 1997-2007 period). Does anyone know if they playlisted Band Aid 30 in 2014? Also the C-Listed The Waterbabies ‘Under The Tree’ in 2004.
December 12, 20205 yr Is it though? It is a Christmas song so 4 weeks on the playlist is probably going to be the best any track like it gets
December 12, 20205 yr The song itself was a flop in terms of sales compared to the others. Maybe I just think that because my generations is Band Aid 20! It was released on the 14th Nov if I remember rightly so could have been added earlier, though they likely added to the C List around 20-27th Nov so only playlisting it for 4 weeks
December 14, 20205 yr Tune of the Week w/c 14/12/20 Adele Roberts: You Me At Six - SUCKAPUNCH Greg James: girl in red - two queens in a king sized bed Clara Amfo: Rina Sawayama - LUCID Scott Mills: RAYE & Rudimental - Regardless Nick Grimshaw: Prospa - The Thrill
