It just occurred to me… If the Spice Girls were to record a brand new original Christmas song and release it as an Amazon Original, they could achieve their 4th Christmas #1!

Biff is no stranger to Christmas songs, as he’s behind Leona's One More Sleep.

It would be the perfect way to release new music without the pressure of it underperforming.

What do you all think?

Christmas has come early this year: Universal will be releasing a Christmas-themed EP titled Spice Up Your XMAS this Friday. Tracklisting: 1. Christmas Wrapping 2. 2 Become 1 3. Too Much 4. Goodbye

They've included the album length versions, and for 2 Become 1 that means it's the Geri rather than Victoria version.

Damn... the single versions are so much better... But I guess the album versions have amassed more streams over the years which is probably why they have included those instead...

I shall be downloading the EP though, when it becomes available to download. And hopefully this will increase their Christmas visibility more on streaming platforms, and one day (LOL) they will do a vinyl/CD release of it

Well there goes me listening to it then, I only ever listen to Victoria's superior version!

It trully pisses me off that they mainly use the Geri version... it was the same with the Spice25 releases and the Dolbi Atmos... It's careless specially as they had changed it for a more inclusive line..

Christmas Wrapping and Sleigh Ride seem like they have been remastered, they sound a bit fuller now!

(it seems like this is just more of a playlist than an actual EP release... you can't buy/download it at all lol)

I mean it makes total sense... to have done this 5 years ago! I'm really not at all bothered though, hopefully it give's them a streaming boost.

They could have at the very least, included the Christmas songs from the Earls Court dates though, they clearly recorded them at the time...

I thought this too. The Christmas medley from the 1999 tour is by far my favorite of their Christmas recordings. It carries their spirit, and they're actual good songs. I know Mel B forgot the lyrics, but...I'd still be fine with them leaving it...or perhaps subbing out some vocals from a different tour date. That medley has always sounded to me like it could be a staple of Christmas radio...but I guess I like it better than most.

I do like the production of Christmas Wrapping, but I've never thought the song was especially great. With Sleigh Ride, I can't get past that effect on their speaking voices...like it was recorded in a bathroom. Plus, I just wish they did something more interesting with the song...cause the Ronettes version just smokes it. (...side question...did the Spices' version of Sleigh Ride ruin Santa for anyone...?)

But. Anyway. Not to be too negative...2 Become 1, Too Much, and Goodbye remain amazing. There.

Yeah I agree about the Christmas Medley. As much as I dispise Christmas music (and that god awful Emma Christmas tour lol), they were crazy not to release a Christmas song in 1999 to make up for the lack of a proper single and album that year, specially when they were going on a Christmas tour anyway...

And one of those songs or even a medley of them would have done wonders at the time - and probably become a season classic...

I can see in the next few weeks we might get a HQ version of that performance released on streaming just like the Goodbye performance. I certainly hope so!

I would also like @-Jay-'s opinion on the matter, seeing as he is a big Kylie fan. 😎

I’m just thirsty for chart positions 😭

At this point, I think EMI/Virgin actively hates the Spice Girls because why do Girls Aloud just released a brand new music video for an old Christmas track of theirs, by putting together old footage, and we get f*** all new from The Spice Girls other than a Christmas playlist?

In regards to how their legacies are being handled, it’s certainly been a lot more rewarding and fun to be a Girls Aloud fan than a Spice Girls fan in recent years. Nostalgia and fan service is done in the right way for Girls Aloud! That’s 20 year old footage that was mostly unseen, for one of the fan favourite GA Christmas songs. Then there’s the CD and vinyl including a lot of previously unseen pictures. They’re going above and beyond to get everything right.

I think there has to be people in the Universal team who are actually fans of Girls Aloud and understand what to do with their legacy, knowing what fans will want and love.

I truly wish it could be that way for the Spice Girls, but alas.

It is so clear that there is dedication and love poured in to these releases from Girls Aloud whereas the Spice Girls get no love or care at all....

That might be because of the girls themselves, who have to aprove everything and probably the label eventually got fed up and just does the bare minimum, whereas girls aloud don't get much of a say? right?

But it is truly dispairing as a fan, goddamn...
