Best overtake: Can't argue with Hamilton's race winning pass

Worst overtake: Norris' overambitious Lap 1 attempt on Sainz

Worst moment: The 2nd safety car deployment that made Hamilton's win inevitable

Worst overtake: Norris at the start

Best moment: Hamilton passing Perez, Perez passing back and then Hamilton pqassing him again for good

Worst moment: the organisation not giving any penalty to Verstappen after his nasty incident with Hamilton

I'm still holding off judgment on this one. Whilst it certainly looked intentional both at the time and with replays, without the onboard to show us how much he was trying to turn the car it's too soon to call for me.

If he opened up the steering too much and too soon then yes it should have been a penalty.

If he tried to make the corner and failed then I'm just about ok with that considering there was no contact.

Ideally if there was grass or gravel on the run off it takes away this option for the drivers to use

It's VERY sus that's there still no onboard from Max, almost like the FIA don't want to release it. To me it looks like he opens the steering which I guess isn't ever punished nowadays since they changed their stance on wheel to wheel racing post-Austria 2019. The "leave a car's width gap" is seemingly seldom ever implemented too unless there's gravel on the exit like Norris vs Perez in Austria this year. Inconsistency consistent that's for sure.

Luckily it mattered not in the end, what a sublime performance from Lewis all weekend, his best drive this year and when he really needed it most. An epic race that, this is why F1 must never ever leave Interlagos.

Brilliant drive from Hamilton and a deserved win - he would have won comfortably if starting from pole.

I still want Max to win the title though - although not sure I agree with him effectively pushing Lewis off the track

Gutted for Vettel - he has had some real bad luck this year and one of the virtual safety cars cost him a points finishing position.

The FIA hadn't yet seen it as late as last night.

There is a logical reason too.

Because of bandwidth limitations not every camera feed is available to the FIA/race directors all the time. They switch form various sources depending on what is happening and during the incident in question no monitor was set to receiving the feed from Verstappen's forward mounted camera. It was switched over to hi srear facing camera just before the move by Lewis. Consequently they didn't see the video before having to make their decision on the manoeuvre.

The video in question will have been saved on to Max's storage unit on his car though so the footage will become available once that can be transferred over. Additionally, because of the implications of a double header weekend there may be some delay in that as teams have to pack up very quickly to get to Qatar in time.

I would expect the footage quite soon.

If there's a criticism to be made it's that the stewards noted it but felt no investigation was necessary. An investigation would mean looking at the telemetry data which would provide evidence of Max's steering movements.

It seems that whilst Michael Masi was in favour of a black & white flag for Max, the stewards went with the 'let them race' perspective that everyone has been crying out for.

I wouldn't be so sure of that. We've still never seen the onboard of Leclerc from Austria 2019 which I mentioned above (or if we have where can I go?)

I like the let them race perspective yes but I also don't agree that a penalty should only apply if there's actual contact. That said, there will always be inconsistencies from race to race as no 2 moves are ever the same and the stewards aren't the same. It's the same in football, one referee might give a red card to an incident an other one wouldn't. Even as much as the introduction of VAR is trying to make out these subjectivities have been stamped out of the game.

They will have it but I'm not really sure what need there is to release it. I assume we're referring to Max's pass on Charles. We have Max's onboard. I just can't think what them releasing Charles' would tell us that we can't already see from other angles.

It doesn't seem like it's withheld so much as not particularly relevant.

Am I forgetting something?

Oh it's not hugely relevant here I'm just mentioning that as an example of a contentious decision in the past whereby we only saw onboard footage from one of the cars. It just sprung to my mind. It was also the incident which changed the FIA's approach to wheel-to-wheel racing that they still employ today so a very seminal moment in that sense.

Ah OK.

I also forgot to mention that it isn't the FIA who control what footage is released to the public. That's down to FOM, who own the rights to the footage. Sometimes stuff only sees the light of day on a season review blu-ray release.

Yeah that's true actually. I'll keep an eye out for the YouTube top 10 onboards & the Palmer analysis as that sometimes has these exclusives!

Aside, I didn't realise they still do those season review DVDs! Used to get those annually but since I subscribed to F1TV they have all the reviews/replays on there.

One of the very few people whose analysis I consider useful
