Posted December 2, 200618 yr If you look over the years, you find that most succesful franchises are trilogies. Either a fourth part in the series was never made, or it was made and killed the franchise. Examples: Original Star Wars trilogy Indiana Jones Alien ( part 4 was ok, but it was a financial disappointment) Back to the Future Lethal Weapon (blew up the series. The budget seemed to get bigger with each sequel, while the US gross for the sequels was more or less steady) Die Hard Jaws (4 definitely killed the franchise) Batman (see Jaws) Superman (see Batman) Lord of the Rings New Star Wars trilogy Spy-Kids Austin Powers Jurassic Park Blade Godfather Of course there all also examples where part 3 (or even 2) already killed a franchise, but it seems that the 4th relative kills of a franchise. Having stated that, there are currently a lot of franchises for which part 3 is already in the make or released, but it is unsure whether there will be a part 4. What will happen if a 4th instalment is ever made: Pirates of the Caribbean, Shrek, Spider-Man, Ocean's 11, Saw, X-Men, Mission: Impossible, Fast and the Furious, the Santa Clause, Rush Hour. Anybody know of a good and successful 4th part in a franchise?

Anybody know of a good and successful 4th part in a franchise? The Godfather - the first two were absolutely marvellous, the third was a bit a of a disappointment it has to be said.. Jaws - I thought the third one was pretty crappy as well tbh... Lord of the Rings - One could probably argue that "The Hobbit" (if it ever gets made) would be a 'prequel' to the LOTR trilogy (it will have Bilbo, Gandalf and Gollum...) as the books were directly tied to each other in a sense. But without Peter Jackson directing and Sir Ian McKellen (who has pretty much ruled himself out of returning as Gandalf because Jackson's been dumped by the studio..), the "Fourth Film Curse" seems like it will strike again.... I honestly cant think of fourth film of a particular story arc which has really been good or successful.. I'm honsestly struggling to think of one...
December 3, 200618 yr Batman Begins though which was the 5th Batman movie was the best of the lot though Saw 3 was better than the original Saw Die Hard 4 is coming out next year hope that will not devalue the franchise
December 3, 200618 yr Batman Begins though which was the 5th Batman movie was the best of the lot though You can't really count Batman Begisn though, as its kinda gone back to basis by starting off the whole story again, so it doesn't follow on from the previous films.
December 3, 200618 yr X-Men was a good trilogy, 1 and 2 were great, I've not seen 3 but I've been told (and the title suggests) that it's the final one as they all more-or-less die But a Wolverine:The Movie film is being filmed next year :D And Austin Powers is the only film trilogy ever to gross more than the previous film did apparently, meaning that Goldmember must have been very popular, and a 4th installement of that would be sweet

I thought the 3rd Austin Powers was the worst one. :( I can't really see a 4th one working in all honesty, so they should just leave it as a trilogy. ^_^

The first Austin powers is best, the others are OK, but they go downhill with each film. I think Spiderman should be pretty consistent, both 1 and 2 are excellent. As for other trilogies, obviously Star Wars Episodes IV to VI are the ultimate, and perhaps for me, Indiana Jones and Back To The Future as well.
December 7, 200618 yr Most Sequels go down hill after the First Movie ^_^ Scream 2 was ok, but 3 was awful :( Only Shrek, X-Men, and Spiderman have been the more recent ones where the sequels have outdone the originals imo ^_^
December 16, 200618 yr The scary movie films have all made me roll around on the floor with laughter haha (exagerating a little) and i don't think they have ever been rubbish, i think 3+4 are my fave in fact. :)
December 16, 200618 yr i found the 2nd Matrix movie the best of the 3 but thats me personally. The final one closed as many loose ends as it created new open ones -_-
December 16, 200618 yr i found the 2nd Matrix movie the best of the 3 but thats me personally. The final one closed as many loose ends as it created new open ones -_- Really? :o I thought the 2nd was the worst personally, the only good bit was the big action sequence on the motorway. Your right about the 3rd one though; there're are still a few un-answered questions from there.
December 16, 200618 yr Really? :o I thought the 2nd was the worst personally, the only good bit was the big action sequence on the motorway. Your right about the 3rd one though; there're are still a few un-answered questions from there. the 1st just seemed to drag for me before it got going, and then the 3rd as I've mentioned was hopeless of signing off
December 16, 200618 yr the 1st just seemed to drag for me before it got going, and then the 3rd as I've mentioned was hopeless of signing off  I like the first one best although it does drag on quite a bit. :( The thrid one woud have being my least favourite if it weren't for the battle against the squids at the end.
December 16, 200618 yr I forgot about the squiddy things  I mean they are electrical things, the people of Xion live in a technicalish place, surely they had sprinklers

December 17, 200618 yr i found the 2nd Matrix movie the best of the 3 but thats me personally. The final one closed as many loose ends as it created new open ones -_- "Reloaded" was very average, that whole big fight sequence with all the Agent Smiths was so incredibly lame.... It looked like they used PS2 graphics for the effects....  "Revelations" was bloated, pretentious bollocks... Sorry, but the first one is the best, always will be. They never should've done the sequels... Although, "The Animatrix" was pretty good...
December 17, 200618 yr The Evil Dead trilogy is quite interesting... the first film was a classic, terrifying, low-budget horror. Evil Dead 2 was more of a remake in that it presupposes the first film never happened. It's not very scary and more of a comedy, what with the possessed hand running around banging pots on Ash's head :D Then Army of Darkness, a continuation of Evil Dead 2... which has virtually nothing in common with the first two films... it's sort of an action/comedy film The Exorcist "trilogy" was long hailed as among the worst - the sequel was absolutely horrendous and the third film had so little to do with the first films that the studio forced the directors to add an exorcism scene to the end - totally useless and bizarre. Anyway if people thought it couldn't get worse, they were wrong because the 2004 Renny Harlin prequel was absolutely insulting and utterly unwatchable TRASH.
