So QEII has died (spoiler alert) but it absolutely no effect on the charts whatsoever! Would have been nice for The Funeral by Yungblud to have been #1 for the occasion lol.

Now now, being anti-monarchy is one thing, but a bit extreme to wish YUNGBLUD on them.

Thank god the top 2 are pulling ahead of 'Dance Monkey' at least so far.

I doubt it in the streaming era.

Well got that one right. IIRC the biggest thing that happened was The Smiths song appearing on the Spotify chart for a day or two which is hardly patriotic and it didn't officially chart lol.

Elton's record for highest selling #1 in any one week will never ever be beaten, barring significant changes in the way the chart is calculated first. The idea of a song even coming anyway remotely close to 'selling' a million copies in a week in the current streaming era is inconceivable.

As for the actual question of the thread, i'm still gonna go for something not yet released at this stage. I still think there is the potential for something to come along and have an even bigger impact.

Also ewww at that Dance Monkey thing having done enough to still be #3 on the decade end to date. :puke2:

I'm not here for all this 'Dance Monkey' shade. May it continue to occupy its rightful place in the top 3.

I think I went for Mariah at the time but I now reckon:

1 Killers

2 Wham!

3 Mariah

Both Blinding Lights and Bad Habits should get to about 5m but that won’t be enough the way it’s going.

Annual update:

1 Blinding Lights 4.16m

2 Bad Habits 3.52m

3 Someone You Loved 2.92m

4 Dance Monkey 2.80m (this year’s sales a bit of a guess)

5 Heat Waves 2.68m

6 Head & Heart 2.67m (this year’s sales a bit of a guess)

7 As It Was 2.53m

8 Shivers 2.51m

9 Last Christmas 2.42m

10 Mr Brightside 2.41m

So it’s looking promising for Wham! if they continue to do 700k per year - we could be heading for a Wham! / Killers top 2.

Bad Habits isn’t out-doing Blinding Lights by very much anymore so I think BL will stay ahead. Someone You Loved is now catching both of them but is quite far behind.

It’s already looking tough for something not yet realised to do the 6.5-7 million likely to be required to be #1.
