Posted January 11, 20214 yr 10th January 2021 It's Lorraine Ellison's showstopping 1966 critics' classic (ie a flop) finally topping my charts, as I bought Stay With Me (Baby) on vinyl decades ago but never charted it till itunes gave me an excuse last week. 55 years isn't the longest wait to hit number one and to debut, but it's up there. 4 of the top 5 are oldies as there has been a dearth of exciting new tracks the last few weeks, and just the one new entry this week from London Grammar. That gives KLF upward movement times 4, Kylie Minogue a 7th top 10 from Disco, and Gwen Stefani's first non-christmas top 10 for 4 years. Lola Lennox' La La Love Me leaps lengthily into the top 20, and Taylor Swift's gorgeous Willow gently weeps aloft too, Alicia Keys & Celeste both add to their run of top 40's. In at 26, Harry Styles' Treat People With Kindness is beautifully upbeat and quirky and peaked at 21 12 months ago, but is now officially out as a single and rebounds back. Dirty Dancing's been on the TV over the New Year and sales of the soundtrack are booming on itunes, so welcome back to former chart-topper Be My Baby, The Ronettes popping back in after Sleigh Ride just popped out. One of the singles my dad bought in the 60's, it's still epic, loved it then, never stopped loving it. Not really a fan of Harry's new single but I've always found him hit or miss personally, so I'm not surprised. Gold out the top 40 eep. I am still so disappointed at the lack of Chart presence for her this era. In The Morning is superb. My fave since Ain't Your Mama without a doubt and that in itself was a masterpiece. I look forward to what else she brings this year. Great chart!

Hey james! :) I like the Real Groove remix, but Ive bought the album and resent having to buy new versions, and generally if I dont buy it doesnt make my chart. I'm stroppy that way :lol: Willow is a great ballad, top 10 this week :cheer: Paloma deserved much better, but the pop industry is fickle and ageist and chasing the latest fashion, and always has. Teenage fans also have always been ready to move on at the drop of a hat to something new as they get older. That's what makes it exciting, but the downside is even the biggest names hit low patches when the face doesn't fit. :( cheers! B-)

Glad u like Inner Smile, New Radicals-mainman track, that one, my fave Texas track and an all-time fave, Empire State Of Mind didn;t top my chart, but is still on my all-time top 900, classy! cheers! Great chart :D Hi Pete :) Yeah, Lorraine Ellsion has been a critical-acclaimed classic, much-covered but never had a hit herself, sadly. She straddles the line between passion and hysteria, and it's always been a marmite track, but it's my fave version of the song :D PNAU are always interesting, and usually good or great. I was a little bit late getting into Taylor & Liam's tracks, but I got there in the end :lol: cheers! B-)

Hi Jordan! :) Yes, Lorraine Ellison's is the original of many many versions, rush-recorded in a studio gap, probably why she's a bit hyper on it :lol: Thanks for the wishes, I had no doubts it was always going to be a tough-sell though :lol: So right about Tammy, her vocals are a "goosebump" moment for me, works so well, apparently on of the KLF is a country fan, so it's not ironic or a piss-take of the Country legend, it's life-affirming that everyone is clearly having a great ol laugh :heart: Glad you like Moodshift, a great dance track that one!
