Posted January 22, 20214 yr iqtzMue6Izw Today marks 20 years since 'Your Disco Needs You' was released in Germany, serving as the fifth single overall from 'Light Years'. A huge fan favourite, the song is a fierce call to the dancefloor and doesn't hold back on its camp tone with its military-style chants, an explosive key change and an impressive operatic finale. It was considered too camp for a worldwide release but has since been a tour staple. The song reached #31 in Germany, the highest charting single from the album, #20 in Australia following a limited released and #152 in the UK on the strength of import sales! The music video is suitable 70s discothèque inspired and pays homage to the 1934 musical comedy Dames. 20 years on from release, what are your thoughts and memories on 'Your Disco Needs You'? And should it have been a proper single?!
January 22, 20214 yr Not a fan sorry. Its an OK album track for that era but i do not listen to it all nowadays.
January 22, 20214 yr I like it more than I used too but still think it’s very overrated and I still prefer Please Stay as a release.
January 22, 20214 yr It certainly has its place, but it's not something I go back to overly often. I've enjoyed it on many a night out though! And I think it could have probably peaked higher than 'Please Stay' as a 4th single (but I guess we'll never know)
January 22, 20214 yr Such a moment - one of my favourites from the album at the time and will forever remind me of clubbing, it was played everywhere. I remember I couldn’t believe that it never received a UK single release - I’m sure it would have been huge. Still love hearing Kylie perform it live - always such a moment. It went Top 40 in Australia, Germany and Switzerland however I’m not sure that’s a proper reflection on how it would have performed had it been pushed properly, i always get the impression that this is one of the songs that Kylie regrets not releasing properly.
January 24, 20214 yr These anniversraies of songs just highlight how fast time goes by, i like it as much now as then also, in a way im glad with how it worked out as in not been a single, its done very well as a non single and is a a huge song at her conerts.
January 24, 20214 yr The single that never was was but remains more popular than many official Kylie singles.
January 30, 20214 yr Author I consider this one of her best! Can't believe the lack of love that only seems to have emerged in recent times. I find it hard to not get taken in by the uber-campness and pure joy, the final moment is life-affirming, particularly that operatic note which Kylie nails every time. If there was one change I could have made to the Golden Tour, it would have been that she performed this; other than that she performed everything I really wanted to hear.
January 30, 20214 yr Its as catchy as hell and especially the last minute of the song, its not a song i have ever played in a pub or club so i dont know the reaction in that way but its a good uplifting song.
January 31, 20214 yr I go in phases of finding this totally bonkers and brilliant to being annoying and over-done  I think it depends on my mood at the time. I always see it mentioned as the big SINGLE THAT GOT AWAY, but from Light Years, that title goes to 'Butterfly'
January 31, 20214 yr It's a spectacular rainbow-filled tour de force. Whenever I hear it, I feel the love that Kylie has for her LGBT following. Pure joy.
January 31, 20214 yr It's a huge nod and thank you to her LGBT following that have stayed so loyal to her.
January 31, 20214 yr The LGBT community have remained extremely loyal to Kylie and have been a huge part of her success. That said, she has had great support elsewhere that can sometimes get overlooked. There is no denying there is huge love for Kylie as a person whether you enjoy her music or not.
