It's the near 30 year old woman singing "mom's not home tonight, we can roll around and have a pillow fight..." for me.

She's not far off 40!

She must have been sat on this album for a while, the leaked tracklist from Jan 21 is very similar to the official one.

I just noticed looking back to page 1 of this thread.

I meant when Hello Kitty was released she was about 30 and it was embarrassing for her to be singing that stuff then.

Oh I see... I presumed it was a lyrics in her new one  (which says a lot about it I think!)

Why didn't she come back with this sort of stuff in 2009-2010!?

The genre had died by that point, at least in the mainstream. You had the big Tumblr bands like Neck Deep, The Story So Far sprouting around that time though, but they have quite a different crowd.

It’s only come back in such a big way since Machine Gun Kelly/Olivia Rodrigo’s big releases in the last couple of years.

Not sure the genre died that much in 2009/2010, around that time yoy still had the likes of My Chemical Romance, Panic!, You Me At Six, Paramore doing well albeit maybe not having a massive chart hit. Think the problem with Avril is The Best Damn Thing was so heavily manufactured pop influence (at its very best). Still think she could have come back with something similar to this though.

In my opinion both songs are really dated and not that great, not in a way that Olivia....or even GAYLE has elevated to a new audience. Not sure if I get the hype!

tbh i dunno why people think this is any different to her 2013 album?

Nostalgia for the sound now that there wasn't so much of in 2013! Her new stuff's more pop-punk compared to the lighter pop-rock of her self-titled album too.

The new song "love it when you hate me" is so catchy, so early 00's female pop rock it's delightful.

Although, I am not going to lie, until this duet I had never heard of Blackbear... do I want to hear more?

He started out as a fairly mediocre rapper/R&B singer, but has transitioned to more pop/pop-punk sounds over the last year or so. He has an album with Travis Barker out this year, and has this collab on his EP last year that’s worth checking out!

Thank you, i'm going to give some of his stuff a listen today because i'm enjoying this song a lot!

This album is such a rush. Literally everything I want from Avril in 2022.

Really enjoying this, some killer tunes in here! Loving the Sum 41/Blink vibes.

Avalanche is a highlight.
