I'm late to this, but I think if any talent show format could work for Saturday night TV, it would be Dream Academy (the show that made Katsteye)

The Voice is horrendously boring, so that woukdn't work, but what could work - as shit as it is - is a return of Got Talent. Terrible show, but it's not mean.

Certain tabloids are full of "a source says" stories today claiming that ITV are on the verge of bringing it back next year. Honestly? It had its place and time, and there are so many elements not in

  • Honestly, this show was everything in it's peak. I used to plan nights out based around watching this. Me and my friends would meet to watch it, pre drink and then head out after. And when I tell you

  • Channel 5? Dead on arrival.

Britain's Got Talent is still going, we had a series this year

I hope it does come back, but I agree definitely needs changes. Problem is people loved the auditions and the terrible acts but that was part of the exploitation. Guess they’d have to make sure the crap ones know what they are signing up for now 🤣🙈

I think we could do without any novelty/bad acts whatsoever. It’s not necessary (ignoring how icky it even is), especially when you have shows like Building the Band, etc that show how a talent show can work today. They need to put some real effort into filling air time with showing off that talent and spark, giving constructive feedback, more creative freedom to the acts, getting them in the studio, songwriting, working on their craft building up to live shows.

Paul Brunson has done a "round table" episode of his podcast We Need To Talk, with Lucy Spraggan and Jahmene Douglas (2012 finalists) and Myles Stephenson from Rak-Su (2017 winners):

It's a long one this - almost three hours - but they all speak quite openly about their experiences on the show on this and, well. It's not good on any front.

And ITV still want to try and bring this back?

I’m actually listening to this now, I, about half way through it.

It’s absolutely disgraceful what they put the contestant through.

Disgusting what they did, especially the producers with Lucy Spraggan! Shocking.

I feel embarrassed for ever havin watched it!!! Although we did all call it the Fix Factor, we knew they leaked stories to the press to support or ruin contestants, and manipulated the scenes, drama, votes - Louis Walsh and Katie Weasel!!! - we didn't know JUST how rotten it was.
