Hollywood Music in Media Awards Noms Led by ‘Emilia Pérez’ and ‘Blitz,’ With Elton John, Hans Zimmer and Scores More Among the Nominees[/i]

More than a hundred songwriters, composers, perfomers and films are represented in the nominees’ list for the 2024 Hollywood Music in Media Awards — from pop luminaries like Elton John & Brandi Carlile, Miley Cyrus, Lainey Wilson and Pharrell Williams to celebrated scorers like Hans Zimmer, Harry Gregson-Williams, Kris Bowers and Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross.

The list of nominees was unveiled Wednesday, in advance of a ceremony due to take place Nov. 20 at the Avalon in Hollywood.

“Emilia Pérez” led all films with five HMMA nominations. “Blitz” and “A Complete Unknown” have three nominations apiece. Other films picking up multiple noms include “Wicked,” “The Wild Robot,” “Moana 2,” “The Idea of You,” “Challengers” and “Elton John: Never Too Late.” (Scroll down to see the full lineup of 2024 nominees.)

The HMMA lineup of categories is the most expansive of any awards program recognizing musical achievements in the movies, between breaking down different genre categories for feature films, giving awards for performers of the year’s film songs, recognizing music supervisors, and giving awards to music-themed feature films and documentaries in their entirety.

The list of nominees for best on-screen performance is composed of Zoe Saldana (for “El Mal” from “Emilia Perez”), Cynthia Erivo (for “Defying Gravity” from “Wicked”), Timothée Chalamet (for “Blowin’ in the Wind” from “A Complete Unknkown”), Nicholas Galitzine and Anne-Marie (for “The Idea of You” from the film of the same name) and Saoirse Ronan (for “Winter Coat” from “Blitz”).

Other actors and/or singers who are up for HMMA awards for performing nominated tunes include Selena Gomez, H.E.R., Dwayne Johnson and Riley Keough.

Songwriting nominees include such names as Diane Warren, Maren Morris, Robbie Williams, tany Howard, Abigail Barlow & Emily Bear, A.R. Rahman, Linda Perry, Shane McAnally, Taura Stinson, Kristen Wiig and Savan Kotecha. Filmmakers figure into the songwriting nominations mix this year, too, as Luca Guadagnino (“Challengers”) and Steve McQueen (“Blitz”) are among those who contributed to their movies’ theme songs on top of directing.

The list of scoring nominees includes Michael Giacchino, Daniel Pemberton, John Debney, Tom Holkenborg, Henry Jackman, Volker Bertelmann, Jon Batiste, Alexis Grapsas, Rob Simonsen, John Powell and many more.

The nominees for best music-themed film (biopic or musical) are “A Complete Unknown,” “Back to Black,” “Better Man,” “Bob Marley: One Love,” “Emilia Perez” and “Wicked.”

Up for music documentary/special program are “Elton John: Never Too Late,” “I Am: Celine Dion,” “Music by John Williams,” “One to One: John and Yoko,” “Piece by Piece” and “The Greatest Night in Pop.”

Bernie Taupin will get the Outstanding Career Achievement Award at the ceremony, on top of his nomination for co-writing the nominated song sung by Elton John and Brandi Carlile from “Elton John: Never Too Late.”

Preordered :yahoo: . Now I just need to find a cassette player.

I hope this upcoming tour will be based around a new album . Personally I have had enough of his greatest hits , I want to hear songs from his new album & not just one new song .

Does anyone know if this is the album that Rob was talking about ready to go or is there a another one

I find the whole thing confusing

I think there will be two albums. This movie soundtrack and a proper album. I'm really interested in how the movie promotion will be handled. The premier dates for cinemas are spread out for over month from December to the start of February. I'm guessing Rob will do a mini promo tour in those countries. I'm not sure how and when the the proper album will be introduced though.
I pre-ordered too - I haven't got a means to listen to a CD nowadays so I'm hoping it comes with a free download.

Gosh so do I - desperate for new music.

I'm sure this isn't the "new" album. That must be following in the new year, after the movie is released.

Yes thanks Frogec. I have pre-ordered but hope for a completely album & tour, it's 2016 since we had similar. I did not consider the Xmas album as a proper album but more like a filler bit that's just me.

So I just watched the video of Rob singing Better Man at the Bambis, and I think this is going to be a problem, folks.

He struggles to hit the notes. You can feel him straining. His voice just doesn’t have the brightness in its tone that made that song.

He compensates by doing his typical audience interaction bit.

It’s ok if he is singing but to a crowd that knows the song and will join in on the choruses, but if he is promoting in places where they don’t (and it’s really not that well-known in Europe) it is going to fall flat.

Particularly in America. In America they would expect him to stand on the spot and deliver a vocal.

Guh.

I am trying to watch televisions promotions only after I read how it went down in the press which is usually not nice and often not nice to mainstream artists. I have seen nothing but positive revues in the German press and started with Rob's speech for Toni Kroos who has his own bit of irony to carry through years in his home country and always had been a huge Rob fan. This brought him extra unfriendly tweets either before he was greeted back in grace in Germany. I loved the speech, i loved the genuine way both acted with each other. Then today I watched the Better Man clip, a song I always liked. With the usual Bambi audience in the hall being often very snobbish the reaction to Rob I see and heard was great. I think the genuity of him pays off late, but pays off aside that Geany always ad been friendly with him. I think he delivered Better Man well. I am not concerned of the Americans. If they will adopt the movie this is their first real approach to Rob and his back catalogue. Seeing the performances of many of their superstars with lip sync, choir taking the high notes and whatever is possible out there I do not worry. It is more if they will get the movie or not.

Here I am still not sure about even outside of America. I trust in the promotion knowledge of Paramount as I am almost sure the fact that Rob won his 3rd Bambi this year is no coincidnce.

That’s a great point, Elisabeth.

I guess I am just having a case of the anxieties on Rob’s behalf.

I watched the video of his singing Better Man and noticed his voice was gravelly in the first verse and fine in the second.

I just put it down to him deciding to sing it that way - not necessarily because his voice was "off".

I don't think there is anything wrong with his voice other than he has aged and it has gotten deeper although I did think he seemed nervous at the awards but who knows?

Don't worry about it!

It's a movie, he doesn't need to sing at all to promote the movie :)

Another great news - new festivals and new status of the movie at these festivals.

Michael Gracey’s “Better Man,” a profile of British pop star Robbie Williams, will open the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) with its Asian premiere. The Australian production kicks off the festival’s run from Nov. 20-28 in Goa.

Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea Film Festival — which will run Dec. 6 to 14 in Jeddah...

The closing film is Michael Gracey’s profile of British pop star Robbie Williams, “Better Man,” which is screening as a gala event. It’s possible Williams will be on hand, though this remains to be confirmed.

I hope to see the movie promoted on the Graham Norton Show. Graham is always so enthusiastic when it comes to talking about movies so hopefully it will happen before the end of the current GN series :yahoo:

Euphoria creator Sam Levinson speaks with director Michal Gracy about his new Robbie Williams biopic Better Man.
