HINTS 71-75

No false alarm as a star is born, though some Oscar dreams are crushed after being discovered on the mattress.

And this is the section that finally demonstrates the weirdest song to be anywhere near the top 75 (and quite honestly, the entire top 100).

Guess away!!!

'on the mattress' must mean Better Than Revenge!
#75-#71:

75. Starlight [Avg. 7.88]
74. Red (Demo) [Avg. 7.916]
73. False God [Avg. 7.92]
72. Better Than Revenge [Avg. 7.972]
71. Safe & Sound [Avg. 7.973]

An album track from Red lands in the first spot of the bunch. "Starlight is a song I wrote after seeing a picture of Ethel and Bobby Kennedy when they were seventeen. I saw this picture about a year and a half ago, and I didn't know anything about what they were doing or what was going on in the picture, but I just thought 'They look like they're having the best night.' " It received an 11 from JosephStyles, a 10 from Nina West and Ultra, a 9.5 from DionTheSats123, and 9s from Cremey, Jay, and Klumzee. Lowest score is a 5 from blacksquare.

Second, out goes a title track, but the demo version of it. "I wrote this song about the fact that some things are just hard to forget, because the emotions involved with them were so intense and, to me, intense emotion is red." A 10 was given by Ho-Lee Smokes, 9s from John-James and London, DionTheSats123, and Jade. The lowest score is a 4.5 from Dexton.

The next song out is a favorite of mine. It's the third song from Lover to go out within the songs I have posted recently, which means the album has taken quite a beating in the rank! I remember hearing the saxophone in the intro for the first time and feeling really excited about it because I love smooth jazz music. I'm all for fusion of musical genres. "False God uses heavy religious imagery to compare Taylor's relationship with current boyfriend Joe Alwyn to something all-powerful and greater than themselves." It received an 11 from me and to my pleasant surprise, another 11 from blacksquare. More beautiful scores include 10s (Cremey, Jay, jtkoon) and a 9 (Tafty). On the lower end, a 5.5 (Among Haus) and a 5 (Dexton, London).

Losing a track here from Speak Now, Better Than Revenge is supposedly about Camilla Belle, who Joe Jonas dumped Taylor for. It received an 11 (JosephStyles), three 10s (Qween, Tafty, Ultra) and a low score of 5 (Dexton).

A non-album track slides its way out of the rank here. "Safe & Sound represents the empathy and compassion Katniss feels for Rue, Peeta, and Prim in different parts of The Hunger Games." It received several 10s (Jade, jtkoon, John-James, MrAndrewMan, Nina West, Ultra) and a low score of 4 (London).
Safe & Sound is amazing. Would like to have seen it even higher personally!

One of these days I will relisten to 'Safe & Sound' to see if my initial impression that it is one of her most excruciatingly dull songs should be revisited.

Today is not that day.

'False God' tho <3

#70-#66:

70. Daylight [Avg. 8 (less 9s)]
69. Clean [Avg. 8 (more 9s)]
68. Forever & Always [Avg. 8 (more 10s)]
67. mad woman [Avg. 8 (an 11)]
66. Christmas Tree Farm [Avg. 8.03]

Going out first is an album track from Lover. "On Daylight, Taylor sings about struggling through previous relationships, beginning to doubt her ability to find true love, until she meets someone who brightens her life in a new way." A 10 was given by John-James, some 9s from Doug, Joseph Styles, and Ultra. Several 8s were given as well. The lowest score is a 6 from Nina West.

Next, we have an album track from 1989. The meaning of Clean described by Taylor: "It's about comparing getting over a relationship to sobriety. It has a lot of different references between addiction and moving on from a relationship." It received a 10 (Cremey), several 9s (Nina West, Qween, Jade, Jay, and Ultra). Lowest score is a 5 (Ho-Lee Smokes).

In this spot is an album track from Fearless. Forever & Always is about "a fallen relationship with an immature ex-boyfriend." This song received two 10s (jtkoon, Ultra), a 9 (London), a few 8.5s, 8s, and 7s. Lowest score is a 6 (Jade).

In this spot is another one of my favorites from folklore, mad woman. "Taylor connects the concept of a delusional woman to her personal life, particularly her battles with Scooter Braun, Scott Borchetta, and rapper Kanye West." It received an 11 from me! Next highest is a 9.5 (jtkoon) and two 9s (Klumzee, Ultra). Lots of 8s, 7.5s, and 7s. Lowest score is a 5 (Jade).

Lastly, we lose a fun song that should become a traditional song someday (at least I would like to see that!), non-album track Christmas Tree Farm. Taylor grew up on a Christmas tree farm. The song has been described as "a cheery, uptempo pop song." It received a nice showing of 10s (JosephStyles, me, Tafty, Ultra), some 9s (DionTheSats123, Jay, MrAndrewMan). Lowest score is a 5 (blacksquare, Nina West).

Christmas Tree Farm is such a bop, pleased to see it get a relatively high position!

Clean and Forever & Always are both great too, definitely underscored those I think.

Ah a couple of great songs leaving there - Forever and Always  Prefer the piano version though

I hope you’re right and Christmas Tree Farm will build momentum up at Christmas time, over the years and become a Christmas classic :)

I’ll be posting the next 5.

One album is about to say au revoir to 3 tracks ! Which album is it? ;)

Coming soon….

65. Should’ve Said No [Avg. 8.02]
64. How You Get The Girl [Avg. 8.04]
63. Tolerate It [Avg. 8.10]
62. Wildest Dreams (R3hab Remix) [Avg. 8.111]
61. Bad Blood (solo version) [Avg. 8.119]

In this next instalment, 1989 is saying goodbye to three tracks - not a good round for 1989 - and Taylor Swift and Evermore both lose one more each.

Taylor Swift takes the first hit at number 65. This means that Taylor Swift only has two songs left (and they are different versions of the same song). Will the pop or the radio version of Teardrops On My Guitar achieve the highest spot for this album? And where will it be? But back to Should’ve Said No. This was the fifth and final song released from the album, peaking at number one on country radio and number 33 on the Hot 100. This song was given very mixed scores, ranging from a low of 4 from Ho-Lee Smokes and a number of 10s from Jktoon, Joseph Styles, Tafty and Ultra. Taylor wrote this song when she was 16 which kinda blows my mind and it was her fifth top 40 song on the Billboard 100.

At number 64 is probably one of my favourite songs from 1989 - okay that’s a big statement - but it is at least in my top 8 lol. I love the build up to the chorus and then the moment the beat drops and the chorus starts - ‘And then you say…I want you forever and ever’ - makes me crazy. I just think it is a super catchy song and makes me wanna dance. Oh, oh, oh, oh! This too received a wide range of scores. It had an 11 from Tafty (good choice), 10s from Nina West, Joseph Styles, Doug and lots of 9s too. But, it also got 4s Blacksquare and Qween and many 6s too. And that’s how it works, that's how you got the girl.

Tolerate it comes next and what a beautiful song it is. Taylor based it on a book titled Rebecca by Daphne du Marier. She felt that both her and Rebecca had a lot of similarities. She says: “When I was reading Rebecca, I was thinking, ‘Wow, her husband just tolerates her. She’s doing all these things and she’s trying so hard and she’s trying to impress him, and he’s just tolerating her the whole time. There was a part of me that was relating to that, because at some point in my life, I felt that way.” Fellow mod Ready For It… likes this song and gave it a 10, along with John-James and Jade.

Okay, so it is no surprise that Taylor doesn’t always get remixes right - but this next song is hands down IMO the best remix she’s done. I can’t express just how much I love this song and of course controversially I think it is better than the original - oops and sorry. Wildest Dreams R3hab remix is so, so good - the number of times I’ve used this to get me going at the gym. So yes, it is my first 11 to leave this rate and I’m sad it isn’t higher. The beat! Ahhhh! It received many 9s and 9.5s (8 in total) and its lowest score was a 5.5 - which I guess isn’t too bad.

And finally, at number 61 is Bad Blood (solo version). I actually prefer this version to the remix - sometimes I love it and sometimes I don’t. Idk. Ho-Lee Smokes clearly loves it, giving it an 11. It had a lot of 8s and 9s and just one low score of 5.5. The competition is really hotting up.

This is surprising!

tolerate it.
