Posted April 20, 20214 yr Is it anybody else here, who love old Steps songs, but not a fan of last two albums like me ? Edited April 20, 20214 yr by Last Dreamer
April 20, 20214 yr Not sure this really counts, but I loved Steps "back in the day". They were that "unashamedly cheesy" pop group who were a mix of boys and girls who sang and danced and were wholesome family entertainment... and argued like cat and dog behind the scenes. In comparison I haven't listened to much of their new stuff. So it's good to have them back and I'm sure they're enjoying it much more now. I just like them more for the hits.
April 20, 20214 yr I will always love "old" Steps more due to the memories and growing up with them... however I genuinely think "new" Steps are much stronger in terms of live performances (they actually do them).
April 20, 20214 yr I beg your pardon!!!!! As much as I love old Steps, I don't think I can enjoy them anymore. Well maybe I can, but I do prefer nuSteps x
April 20, 20214 yr I like both equally! The inbetweenie Steps of 2012 can go in the bin though. Oh I agree. Can we officially call them The Inbetweenie Steps when talking about that period of time though 🤣
April 20, 20214 yr I like both equally! The inbetweenie Steps of 2012 can go in the bin though. 100%... it's weird they look younger now than they did back then!? Apart from Lee who has always just been super hot!
April 21, 20214 yr I like both old and new Steps in different ways, they've really delivered such goodness since the 2017 comeback though and I'm thankful to have them around.
April 21, 20214 yr I think they got the balance spot on, they have kept the sound that people loved from them but also managed to modernize it and keeping old fans on board and possibly getting one or 2 new ones aswell.
April 24, 20214 yr Old Steps were exactly who they needed to be and I loved them at the time. But I don't enjoy watching those old performances as much now, when I've seen new Steps out there absolutely killing it in live performances. I'll take that any day. The old material is still great, but I'll take new Steps performing it. It also helps that they're releasing some of the best material of their career. They've just finished their finest 4 single run ever. Edited April 24, 20214 yr by PaulM1983

They've just finished their finest 4 single run ever. This, this, this and... this! ❤️ I do wish H & Claire hadn't left just so we could see what might have been. Regarding their split, to me it feels like an “everything happens for a reason” scenario. If there hadn’t have been such an acrimonious and dramatic split at that moment in time, then maybe it ultimately wouldn’t have led to the Steps we have today! I believe they had to let time be a healer, and find their way back to loving Steps again (Claire in particular really struggled towards the end and desperately wanted out, unfortunately). Thankfully they were able to. I think the prematurity of the split massively contributes to the passion and drive they have for the group today. I feel that for the strength of their legacy, it ended up being good timing that they split when they did - even though it really hurt at the time! They ended on a commercial high. My feeling is that if they’d continued into 2002/3, they would have started to fizzle out commercially, just like S Club did (they suffered a low Top 20 peaking album at the end of 2002). The early 00s pure pop era was starting to be moved on from. :(

Well never know either way.

Although it was sad they did and didn't continue at the time, they finished on a big high as a big act still very much seen as being at their peak and not having had that decline (although tbf their sales were a lot lower in the Buzz era) and like you said they didn't have the fizzle out experience of S club (although S Club did round it off nicely with a GH and final tour tbf). I think this is one of the reasons that they have come back successfully they left some desire for more.
