There are literally people in here calling Kandy “talentless”. I am also a huge fan of the show and am passionate about the queens who participate. I never once said that you have no right to be disappointed or disheartened. However you can lift up your faves/grieve their loss without constantly disparaging other queen’s achievements. Each and every week on this site there is a barrage of hate flung Kandy’s way for stupid little reasons. I’m not policing your ability to state that you aren’t keen on a certain queen, or that they rub you the wrong way, but completely writing somebody off because you don’t think they “deserve” it is pathetic and that’s when it moves beyond being “passionate” and turns into hating.

 

This is why I highlighted that this is a mass-produced reality-TV show. Be upset all you want, but tearing someone down isn’t going to change anything. It’s RuPaul’s show and if Ru saw something in Kandy that was worth keeping her around then that’s the bottom line - she earned it.

 

 

The issue people have with Kandy is that they feel she unfairly placed in the top 5 times.

 

She placed in the top when she wore that alien monstrosity on the runway. She placed in the top when she struggled through an improv challenge and then wore pieces of fabric on the runway. She placed in the top for literally acting like a clown in an acting scene.

 

That's bad enough, but then she and her fans call out everyone DARING to criticise the fact that she didn't seem to be very good at pretty much any aspect of Drag Race compared to top 4 queens from other seasons, as being racist and prejudiced against her because she is a POC and plus size, as if any criticism of someone OC or plus size MUST be linked to those attributes rather than their general competency at what they are being judged on how good they are at doing.

Agreed, I think for the lipsyncs that happened yes she made top 2 because she beat Rosé (who is the only one she would have beat),but it was favouritism that pushed her to the final. Of course it's subjective whether you think she deserved to be in the top for those challenges or not (I think she only did for the makeover and the roast) but like Ru even basically eliminated her in the Rusical, and then just kept her for her "personality". That's fine, I think she is likeable enough for the most part, but there's people like Alyssa and Vanjie who have done very well off their personalities and they weren't quite so protected (Vanjie was to an extent). I just think there's a difference between keeping her around for a bit so she can be what I assume they thought would be a fan fave and her being protected right up until the final with OTT praise and a silly amount of favouritism.

Honestly a lot of the fans on social media towards Kandy are coming across as toxic fake woke younger/new fans who have plagued the fanbase for a while, turning everything into being racist or fatphobic or whatver else, when really Kandy just is not good enough. That's not hateful, she has shown herself to not be good enough in my opinion, on various facets. Not least the runway, and drag is so much more than a look, I think a personality matters more, but it's not like she is a Trixie/Katya type quick and witty personality for example, she is just loud and apparently that's funny? Like I said, I do actually find her likeable enough I just think it doesn't help when there's been such favouritism towards her and she lasted so much longer than queens who I think deserved it a lot more when you look at what they presented throughout the season.

This is bang on & absolutely the crux of the issue.

 

The issue is of the show's own making. You can't tell us on the one hand that you're judging on certain metrics, hammer it into our heads every episode,and then persistently and multiple times give one and only one contestant a pass on having to meet the same minimum standard you insist every queen who enters the workroom must meet.

 

If they really wanted us to root for Kandy it would have been the easiest thing in the world for Ru to emphasize every episode how what she valued most this year was personality, independent thought, and the power of the show to uplift people from e.g. the Bronx. Bam! Instantly Kandy is now worthy of praise for hitting exactly what Ru wants this season.

I just got round to watching the finale lipsyncs my god were they awful bar Symone who was passable. Should have been a quadruple sashay away and just cancel the season IMO.

 

Also Rosé needs to hire a stylist as 90% of her outfits are awful and Kandy has to be the most lacklustre lipsync assassin ever, six wins based on those performances? She lucky Denali didn’t come along and straight up murder her ass.

 

I get COVID played a part but they should have stuck with the format they used last year. Yes it wasn’t the most exciting but it gave 2 great, creative videos from Gigi and Crystal along with Jaida being fierce as f***. This final 4 had some potential but my god did they blow it.

 

Also conspiracy theory, they chose a Britney finale after seeing Rosé bomb her IYSA lip sync back in episode 3. Safest way to keep her from the crown.

 

 

I watched it a day late. Not a bad finale but not a good one either

 

Regardless of lip syncs it seems mad that the most consistent queens, with the best overall track records came 3rd/4th!

 

I don’t think Kandy deserved the win over Rose. Neither were that remarkable and Kandy was just throwing herself about

 

Was very surprised Gottmik didn’t win but Symone is a good choice none the less. Sadly when you compare these top 4 to previous seasons they are going to be ranked low
