What the Future Holds (2020 album) -

Total Sales: 72,020 (16th April 2021)

Total Sales: 77,259 (3rd September 2021)

Total Sales: 77,540 (10th September 2021) [+281]

Total Sales: 78,341 (17th September 2021) [+801]

In the 20 weeks that passed from 16th April to 3rd September, the album's weekly average was 262 copies a week. If it goes back to that sales level, and remains consistently as that, then this album wouldn't be on course to reach Gold until April 2023. I assume it'll take longer than that because I doubt it'll always sell that much every week!

Nice to see an updated figure from 705k. Steps are certainly slow album sellers (streamers) 🤣. Would love to have updated sales figures especially for the recent stuff which we have nothing for. I saw somewhere that scared of the dark had sold 170k but can’t for the life of me remember where?

Hopefully someday in the not too distant future, Scared of the Dark will certify silver!

https://www.channel5.com/show/britain-s-favourite-90-s-hits

"Britain’s Favourite 90s Songs" aired on Channel 5 on 7th January. It included pure sales figures (i.e. doesn't include streaming) for the Top 30 songs of the 90s, though I'm not sure what the cut off date is for the data:

23rd Tragedy 1,220,783

On 19th September 2017 OCC revealed its sales were 1,212,288, which is an increase of 8,495.

It's still not certified as being 2xPlatinum (1.2m+) so it seems to me that this figure is a combination of different figures... the physicals of Heartbeat/Tragedy and possibly including both Heartbeat and Tragedy downloads, even though only one of those songs should count towards the Double A Side's total. It's the only explanation I can think of as to why the single is still not certified 2xPlatinum.

It's quite mad that Heartbeat/Tragedy had first week sales of 66k, yet went on to be their biggest seller and about 7 other songs all had higher first week sales. I'd have thought, given that the album had been out two months at that point that a Double-A side with one song not being on the album would've resulted in higher sales.

Better Best Forgotten did 139k in its first week as the 5th single and was on a 6 month old album. Wild.

I think they just exploded with tragedy which benefited the opening sales with better best forgotten although in my own opinion it might have just been the song itself as better best forgotten is just brilliant for me.
Random observation but I can’t believe back in 99 they managed to hold off Westlife from the number one album position on their 2nd week of sales! The power of Steps back in 99 was unreal

Huge  It was a close run thing, only 1000 copies between them!

It’s interesting that they achieved a massive #1 album directly after releasing a #5 peaking single, whereas with Buzz it was kind of the opposite situation, launched with a #1 single but then the album reached #4.

I was disappointed with Buzz missing the top 3 as i thought it might have went number 1 so wasn't expecting them to miss the top 3 at all, holding westlife off in 1999 was huge as both were so big back then but it just shows how big steps were and they were serious album sellers.
