It’s great to finally get some up to date figures. The list is a little surprising though.

Happy Scared Of The Dark is so high though.

Steps's 2022 greatest hits album, "Platinum Collection", is now certified Gold in the UK. @-Jay- @Spiceboy @Lee_his_cheeks

  • So only another 435 weeks and it will be platinum! 😁

That means it should be certified Platinum in 2033

Scared of the dark is their 2nd best single behind Deeper shade of blue so it deserves a silver cert tbh.

Omg Sammy in the Steps forum :cheeseblock:

Steps must have known about your taste because they're the first two tracks on Platinum Collection.

Impeccable taste there tbh B-)

Great getting some updates but updated sales figures would have been great, scared of the dark really moving up the ranks and its good too see a song since they reformed among songs that had far higher peaks.

Great to see and especially happy about SOTD. Hopefully silver at some point (soon)!

Still confused about the H/T sales :claire:

Music Week shared totals for their previous two Greatest Hits:

"Gold: Greatest Hits has sold 1,140,938 copies so far, while The Ultimate Collection has sold 338,787 copies."

We also have an accurate first week sale for Gold for the first time - 146,039

Sadly Music Week didn't give any updates for the studio albums :(

Comparing the first week sales of their past few eras:

Platinum Collection

24,123 - Total

14,171 - CDs

4,368 - Vinyl

3,835 - Downloads

956 - Cassettes

792 - Streaming

What the Future Holds Pt. 2

25,285 - Total

17,781 - CDs

3,568 - Downloads

2,406 - Vinyl

824 - Cassettes

706 - Streaming

What the Future Holds

37,394 - Total

23,728 - CDs

5,214 - Downloads

4,004 - Vinyl

3,447 - Cassettes

1,001 - Streaming

Tears on the Dancefloor (Crying at the Disco Deluxe Edition) (Which would also include some sales from the original standard release as well)

11,136 - Total

8,119 - Physicals - CDs & Vinyl [the split is unknown]

2,757 - Downloads

260 - Streaming

Tears on the Dancefloor

37,624 - Total

35,415 - CDs & Downloads [the split is unknown] *

1,110 - Vinyl

1,099 - Streaming

A pity the Tears on the Dancefloor sales aren't quite as detailed, so we could compare all the album formats like for like.

* My (very specific!) estimates for Tears on the Dancefloor: 25,158 CDs and 10,257 Downloads. I think it's too complicated to elaborate too much on how I was able to arrive at those estimations though... I will say it involved some Monday and Thursday midweek information, which specified the digital percentage [streams + downloads] of their daily totals. Anyway I stress again that those figures are just estimates, not the real sales... but probably quite close to what they sold! The impressive thing about them (probably) selling 25,000 CDs on that occasion is that it was just one format! Albeit some were signed, but they didn't do a deluxe or individual member versions.

146,039 for Gold, is that good in the 2001 climate? I mean I know it got #1.

It was really good, although with its release occurring in Q4, it's probably not too fair to compare it to the #1s from earlier in the year!

In the week it entered at #1 selling 146k, that made it the third highest weekly sale for #1 album of the year up to that point. Only Hear'Say 'Popstars' (306,631 in April) and Travis 'The Invisible Man' (199,697 in June) had achieved higher sales in a week.

As Christmas approached, Westlife and Robbie outdid 146k a few times. That pushed Steps' highest week of sales down to the 9th highest weekly #1 total of 2001.

Those are great stats Jay, thanks for digging them out.

Yeah I thought it was Q4 so that definitely helped.

TOTD did extremely well, how much did it lose out on number 1 by does anyone remember or know?

53,809 | Ed Sheeran - ÷

37,624 | Steps - Tears on the Dancefloor

So it was a significant defeat. Steps were ahead on pure sales alone though. 36,525 for Steps vs. 35,376 for Ed.

-------

37,624 for Steps was the 16th highest weekly sale for a #2 in 2017:

28-Dec 120,546 Ed Sheeran - ÷

06-Apr 113,211 Take That - Wonderland

09-Mar 64,735 Rag'n'Bone Man - Human

21-Dec 63,083 Sam Smith - The Thrill of It All

30-Mar 62,690 Drake - More Life

05-Jan 62,538 Sam Smith - The Thrill of It All

14-Dec 56,050 Ed Sheeran - ÷

23-Nov 52,781 Sam Smith - The Thrill of It All

16-Mar 47,695 Rag'n'Bone Man - Human

18-May 46,736 Ed Sheeran - ÷

11-May 44,465 Gorillaz - Humanz

09-Nov 43,760 Stereophonics - Scream Above the Sounds

07-Dec 43,186 Sam Smith - The Thrill of It All

25-May 39,949 Ed Sheeran - ÷

30-Nov 38,650 Sam Smith - The Thrill of It All

04-May 37,624 Steps - Tears on the Dancefloor

-------

These 2017 #1s had less sales than Steps sold at #2:

08-Jun 36,559 The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

10-Aug 36,306 Arcade Fire - Everything Now

01-Jun 33,034 Ed Sheeran - ÷

07-Sep 32,056 Queens of the Stone Age - Villains

06-Jul 30,582 Ed Sheeran - ÷

14-Sep 29,574 The Script - Freedom Child

27-Jul 29,342 The Vamps - Night & Day

13-Jul 27,263 Ed Sheeran - ÷

15-Jun 26,860 Ed Sheeran - ÷

26-Jan 26,503 The xx - I See You

20-Jul 25,392 Ed Sheeran - ÷

03-Aug 24,972 Lana Del Rey - Lust for Life

12-Jan 24,962 Little Mix - Glory Days

21-Sep 20,118 The National - Sleep Well Beast

12-Oct 20,097 Shania Twain - Now

02-Feb 19,516 Pete Tong, The Heritage Orchestra & Jules Buckley - Classic House

19-Jan 17,887 Little Mix - Glory Days

17-Aug 16,071 Ed Sheeran - ÷

24-Aug 15,343 Ed Sheeran - ÷

09-Feb 15,174 Motion Picture Cast - La La Land

31-Aug 13,975 Ed Sheeran - ÷

Those are interesting stats. I doubt multiple formats would've helped it get #1 in it's week, but in another week it could've done it easily.
We also have an accurate first week sale for Gold for the first time - 146,039

Love it when we get precise numbers for sales from years back! :cheer:

The streaming figures for Platinum Collection vs. studio albums is interesting. You’d assume the streaming total for a greatest hits would be bigger than those of studio albums, kinda suggests to me that the only people who stream Steps are people who are actively fans of Steps.
