15 lists - thanks everyone for taking the time to do it *.*

I'll post results of our lists combined. There's 33 songs in all, here's results 26-33:

26 - 181pts - Victoria Beckham - Not Such an Innocent Girl (from 'Victoria Beckham')

27 - 170pts - Melanie C - The Moment You Believe (from 'This Time')

28 - 157pts - Melanie C - Rock Me (from 'The Sea')

29 - 125pts - Melanie C - I Know Him So Well [feat. Emma Bunton] (from 'Stages')

30 - 108pts - Mel B - Today (from 'L.A. State of Mind')

31 - 95pts - Melanie C - Fearless [feat. Nadia Rose] (from 'Melanie C')

32 - 94pts - Melanie C - Numb [with Sons of Sonix] (from 'Version of Me')

33 - 88pts - Melanie C - I Want Candy (from 'This Time')

Oops at both songs that preceded the release of 'This Time' being out already. While I do understand Melanie C's logic to release 'I Want Candy' (because of its inclusion on a movie soundtrack), it didn't represent the album well at all. 'The Moment You Believe' performed fairly well in Europe, but isn't exactly a fan favourite. Which songs do you guys think would have been better to launch with? I think the album version of 'This Time' could have been a good choice. It's one of the album's up-tempos, and releasing the title track could have helped drive home the message that she also had an album called 'This Time'. If not that, maybe 'Understand'.

Surprised that 'Numb' is second last. Underappreciated bop! 'Numb' served as a taster for 'Version of Me', but the first proper single is 'Anymore'.

'Fearless' was the 4th single from 'Melanie C', the last to be released before the 'Melanie C' album (she did release 'Overload' after 'Fearless' and before 'Melanie C', but it was a promo single/instant grat). I don't think 'Fearless' was the right choice to try to push as a proper single. Honestly I think 'Fearless' and 'Overload' should have swapped places. It's kind of odd that 'Overload' got good artwork (including a picture of Melanie) and even had a couple of remixes, whereas 'Fearless' got lazy artwork that gave off promo single vibes, no remixes, but did get a music video. 'Overload' should have had a music video instead.

First singles from 'L.A State of Mind', 'Stages', 'The Sea' and 'Victoria Beckham' are also low down the results. Poor Victoria, that's her only song included here - because 'This Groove' and 'Let Your Head Go' unfortunately ended up being a standalone single, due to Victoria not releasing a second album. 'Think About It' was the first single in some countries (including the UK) instead of 'Rock Me', and it has made the Top 25.

Numb has really under performed, same as fearless but i guess there were so many Mel C tracks to choose from.

Regarding TT - IWC was such a bizarre release (we got a good video though), Understand, Carolyna, Your Mistake would have been my choice of singles!!

All these songs deserve to be as low as they are now :P

Poor Mel, there is no taste in this forum sometimes! Although I want candy is shit I agree with that lol!

I adore The moment you believe it's such a gorgeous track and was a good choice for Europe tbf. I want candy was not at all in terms of the UK. I think Understand would have been the best track to start off with or perhaps Carolyna. I also think Already gone would have been a great single but clearly she didn't since it didn't even make the album!

Already Gone is a tune !!

Isn't it just, I never understood how it got relegated to a b-side

My three singles from This Time would have been:

1. Understand

2. Carolyna

3. Already gone

I would also have included Fragile on the album.

Then again Reason has that exact same problem with B-sides being superior.

Im also fond of ‘We Love To Entertain You’!

Agree that 'Already Gone' and 'Fragile' both deserved a place on the album.

My ideal singles run would've been:

• Understand

• The Moment You Believe / Already Gone double a-side

• Carolyna

  • Author

Totally agree about the This Time era - those runs of singles would make a lot more sense. A shame that seemingly didn't rate Already Gone too highly. I think fan perception of the album would be quite different with those slight changes.

I'll post the next set of results either later tonight or tomorrow!

Im also fond of ‘We Love To Entertain You’!

I don't mind this song but it's not her best. It would help spice up the album a bit though something like;

1. Understand

2. We love to entertain you

3. Carolyna

4. Protected

5. Your mistake

6. Fragile

7. Already gone

8. Don't let me go

9. Forever again

10. Out of time

Would have worked a lot better. The moment you believe squashed in there somewhere too perhaps or maybe just have that as a stand alone single (I do love that song). I also adore What if I stay though so I'd miss that. It could have been a b-side.

'We love to entertain you' is a good song. I reckon she could've sold it to Disney for High School Musical or something similar. For me, it doesn't really fit with the album though.

Not all albums need to fit with a sound / theme.

Northern Star and True Blue are prime examples of amazing albums where all songs are different.

But it does work for many body of works.

I agree. And it's only my opinion, but I think broad ranging albums like Northern Star work so well because almost every track has a different sound to any other.

Sadly, I don't think the same can be said for This Time.

I agree with this statement to be fair. But I think This Time would benefit from a few more upbeat tracks to it. I actually think the majority of the album is beautiful it's just a bit too much in one go. I want candy at the end is just ridiculous.

Mel C and Emma not fairing too wel overall on mine, Mel B Tell Me forgot how much I love the song

Sorry just realised this had been closed haha

That's okay! Thanks for taking the time to do it  I'll continue with the results I have, and when I've finished that I'll share how the results changed with your list (it didn't change too drastically, a few swapped positions, the winner stays the same though)

16 - 244pts - Melanie C - Next Best Superstar (from 'Beautiful Intentions')

17 - 238pts - Spice Girls - Headlines (Friendship Never Ends) (from 'Greatest Hits')

18 - 236pts - Emma Bunton - What I Am [with Tin Tin Out] (from 'A Girl Like Me')

19 - 233pts - Mel B - Tell Me (from 'Hot')

20 - 231pts - Emma Bunton - Baby Please Don't Stop (from 'My Happy Place')

21 - 225pts - Melanie C - Here It Comes Again (from 'Reason')

22 - 224pts - Melanie C - Goin' Down (from 'Northern Star')

23 - 220pts - Geri Halliwell - Ride It (from 'Passion')

24 - 201pts - Emma Bunton - Downtown (from 'Life in Mono')

25 - 183pts - Geri Halliwell - Desire (from 'Passion')

Both singles from Geri Halliwell's third and final commercially released album 'Passion' miss the Top 20 here! 'Ride It' was the first single from the album, released in November 2004. It peaked at #4 in the UK chart. Six months passed until she followed it up with 'Desire', the song that was released just 1 week before the album. This fared considerably worse, peaking at #22 and becoming Geri's first single to miss the UK Top 10. She ended up releasing no further singles from this album. Would things have been much different if she'd chosen to release 'Love Never Loved Me' instead?

In 2006, Emma Bunton released her third album 'Life in Mono' off the back of her cover version of 'Downtown'. Conversely, her long-awaited fourth album 'My Happy Place', which consisted largely of cover versions, was promoted with an original song as its lead single - 'Baby Please Don't Stop'. Happy to see the latter song make the Top 20 of these results. How about a fifth album of all original songs next, Emma? Also from Emma in this section is 'What I Am', her 1999 cover version which reached #2 in the UK. It was included as the final song on the track list of her debut album 'A Girl Like Me'.

It seems BuzzJack might not think Melanie C chose wisely when it came to the first singles off her debut and sophomore albums - both 'Goin' Down' and 'Here It Comes Again' miss the Top 20 results. Do you guys think she had better songs to choose from to launch those eras? 'Next Best Superstar' from third album 'Beautiful Intentions' outperforms both in these results, making it to 16th place.

Mel B released her first solo single in September 1998, but her debut album 'Hot' took two years to materialise - and was released 2 weeks after 'Tell Me', the song that properly launched that era. Did she choose wisely with that song?

'Headlines (Friendship Never Ends)' by Spice Girls came out in November 2007, 7 years after their last single 'Holler'/'Let Love Lead the Way'. It had a mixed response within the fan base, and the public seemed apathetic towards it. It sadly peaked at #11, dramatically ending Spice Girls' run of Top 2 singles and albums.
