Lil Tecca's new song debuting at #51 on Spotify without New Music Friday impact yet (although it is pretty low on NMF anyway) - looks like this is another song that had a snippet floating around on TikTok before its release so might deliver him a second proper hit.

 

Also 'Body' remix is up to #99 on US Spotify today, it's really happening!!1

I know it’s very early to speculate but Body looks like it could be the first song with the right sort of trajectory to challenge Drivers License for the year end #1.

I feel like Olivia probably has that in the bag tbh, having a few extra months of availability is a very difficult handicap to overcome in EOY charts recently - I don't know what the current YTD numbers look like but I feel like 'Wellerman' is probably the only other song that stands a chance?

 

'Body' is on course to do numbers similar to Olivia's 4th week at #1 this week iirc, I'm not sure I see it rising too much further nor having the same longevity 'drivers license' had but we'll see I guess!

Wellerman is very far behind DL, and that is at #2. Can't see anything stopping DL even if Body has a few weeks of very high sales (and they're still far from DL's peak sales).

Aren't the EOY charts at risk of becoming pretty redundant in the streaming era? When Blinding Lights which was released in December 2019 is on track to be the fifth 'biggest seller' of 2021 and having a smash hit at the very beginning of the year pretty much guarantees you the EOY #1 because it just keeps on accumulating in smaller amounts well after its peak.
They're certainly 'redundant' already in my eyes and have been for a while (it's been a long time since I last even thought about them), the level of bias towards songs that were released towards the start of the year if not even before the year started makes them feel pretty meaningless - not much that can be done about that though because that's just the nature of streaming, more time = higher numbers, the tail is long enough that later releases need to be wayyyy bigger than earlier ones to overtake them.

Oh wow that's a big jump for them! Hopefully it does make the top 100 even with being on permanent ACR, BORNS hung around the top 60 region for a while on Spotify and never made it :/

Most smash hits do make the end of year charts even if it’s not until the year after they’re released! I think they still say something and that’s why I like geekily estimating them, but clearly the bias towards the beginning of the year is a problem. :)

Crazy how Friday was down at #20 on Thursday but now is back at #8 :D same on Amazon, Friday is now back at #1 even beating Body

on Amazon, Coldplay are in at #88

 

‘Friday’ always gets streamed like mad on a Friday and even quite a bit on a Saturday which is annoying, but by Monday- Thursday it completely drops down lol. No idea why this J. Cole song is so high on Apple it’s awful 😂

you were thinking Pink's new single would beat Body, which is doing 750K daily on Spotify?

so far she's got zero support on Spotify, not even good NMF, so Pink won't do much on streams anywhere this week
