I didn't know the Gaga version existed before the Kendrick album was out.. I thought it was a remix. Interesting. But yes, even Wikipedia says that it was intended to be the proper version.

In that case, I would've preferred that to be the album version for Kendrick, still no room for it on ARTPOP though.

I love Kendrick's 'Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe' and somehow totally missed that there was a Gaga version at the time :o oh wow!

'Jewels n Drugs' is a bit messy but far from the worst on this album for me!

Yup!! It was over how they wanted her in the video. Just do the video, GaGa!! Have a huge hit pre-artpop to build into Gypsy and have your aesthetic for the era start then.

She really should hire me and Adelita as her managers.

Gypsy isn't commercial and wouldn't do well on the charts

Of course there was room for that on ARTPOP, "Bitch" is better than almost everything on ARTPOP, but the song was already booked for Kendrick's album. Anyway, that doesn't explain why Gaga gave up on that song at the last minute, Kendrick must be mad at her to this day.

Gaga should include the song in ARTPOP Act 2 or in the ARTPOP deluxe edition (I can't believe that there's still no deluxe version for ARTPOP to this day).

Next out it's the song dedicated to Donatella Versace - a love letter to her as a person. The song's instrumental is based on "Karma Bitch", a Zedd production done with Canadian Singer, Anjulie, in 2011. Donatella responded to the song stating that she was honoured to be friend with Gaga and that she loved the song. At heart the song speaks of being proud of who you are and not being afraid of what others think about you.

Here is what Gaga said about the song: I wrote this song with DJ Zedd, and I wanna say we were in Singapore when I did this record — or maybe we were in Thailand - we might have been in Thailand — and, when we were working on it, I didn’t know quite what it was about yet, and then as we started writing it, I really wanted this to be about Donatella, who’s my friend - Donatella Versace - and, something that we both have in common, this — I guess this theme also is on “Do What U Want” a little bit — but this feeling of being misunderstood; but instead of hitting back at everybody about it, I’m sort of making fun of what they say about the both of us. (...) So, it’s just kind of ludicrous and over-the-top, and ridiculous, and sort of nothing that you would ever want anyone to write about you as a person, but they write about us this way all the time. So, instead of allowing it to make us feel smaller, I’m shouting it from the rooftops over these really bone-crushing beats; and, it’s just a really fun song, and she’s a really good friend of mine, and she’s really picked me up during times that were very hard in my life. So, I also wanted to really tribute her on my record.

'Donatella' has grown on me slightly with the recent ARTPOP loving but it's still objectively a bad song  There is a song that deserved to be lower than these two that isn't out yet though <_<

No grumbles at the results already tbh.

I feel like I've underrated Mary Jane Holland though, I was listening again earlier and it's way better than I remembered - am I too late to up it to a 9?

For Mary Jane Holland's sake, I may consider this! I'll see it affects the results in any major way which it probably won't

The dubstep, industrial loud and proud banger 'Swine' rolls out next. The song was inspired by Gaga's own sexual experiences and the rage she felt from being raped when she was 19 by an unidentified record producer. Gaga performed it during her iTunes Festival show and at the South by Southwest (SXSW) music festival in Texas - this performance received criticism for promoting bulimia when artist Millie Brown vomited paint on Gaga onstage. There are also rumours that it is about Perez Hilton too.

Here is what Gaga said about the song: I wrote a song called 'Swine.' The song is about rape. The song is about demoralization. The song is about rage and fury and passion, and I had a lot of pain that I wanted to release. (...) I went through some horrific things that I'm able to laugh [at] now, because I've gone through a lot of mental and physical therapy and emotional therapy to heal over the years. My music's been wonderful for me. But, you know, I was a shell of my former self at one point. I was not myself. To be fair, I was about 19. I went to Catholic school and then all this crazy stuff happened, and I was going, 'Oh, is this just the way adults are?'...I was very naive. (...) I wasn't even willing to admit that anything had even happened (...) I saw him one time in a store, and I was paralyzed by fear.

This is actually a very personal song on the album, and it is about some of the more troubling, and challenging, sexual experiences I had earlier in my life, and it’s really kind of an angry, emotional, song where I’m sort of screaming and squealing throughout the track; and I’m trying to make fun of it, and turn it into a dance song as it’s all happening, but inevitably you arrive at this chorus, where, you really feel a sense of gravity in the middle of the song. I say, [lyrics from "Swine"] “I know you want me / You’re just a pig inside a human body / Squealer, squealer, squeal out, you’re so disgusting / You’re just a pig inside / Swine.” And then I sing “swine,” over and over again, in this really, intense kind of emotional voice. This song was really important for me, it was like an exorcism; and the groove and the beat is just so so hard, and it’s so so thrashing, and it’s so so chaotic; and, it’s such a release for me whenever I play it, I just start banging on these drums and start screaming and squealing and, I love this record.

Gypsy needed to bw the first single. NOTHING performed on snl, even Bad Romance, woulda been a hit after the disastrously awful GUy flop.

What are your thoughts on 'Swine'? x

I really liked the sound of 'Swine' at the iTunes festival but that tumbledryer production totally ruined it for me in studio form

Noise.

It was great at the itunes festival, just like Sexx Dreams ... except for the verses in that. They ruined it on the album.
