This was posted on Spice Circle - not sure who by, because I read this on Popjustice!

I posted something on my Spice Instagram account related to the Wannabe25 release and someone from UMC contacted me to take the story down.

She was lovely to me and I brought up the fact that the branding is not consistent with what we expected, and that there was a heated debate here regarding the font being the updated 2019 version which misses the iconic S.

She also told me how hard it was for them to acquire the photos from 1996 even with access to the Virgin archives. I bet you that particular shot was used because it was sent to many publications for promo use and they probably found the original slide somewhere.

She said she would speak to the designer about the font and “it shouldn’t be a problem” to put me in touch to provide him with files for the future.

I will never understand people who care or get obsessed about things as pointless as a font.

Also I can't believe how ridiculous UMC are being over this vinyl and cassette. I hope they announce it tomorrow just to get this ridiculous saga over with.

Honestly the fans have been doing too much with the bloody fonts and design, it's almost a bit too much...

My bank card details are written down and READ TO BE COPY PASTED ONTO A PURCHASE FORM ON THEIR WEBSITE TOMORRROO!!O!!! :cheer:

Sorry but personally I love the look of the official classic logos and fonts, it was such a major part of their branding for the first two eras. It's completely intrinsic to them - so quite the opposite of pointless, for me (for lots of other fans too).

I don't much care for the "this'll do" attempt at replicating the classic logo (which has been happening since 2007*) - there's something quite knock-off and tacky looking about it. When I look at other products from the likes of ABBA and Queen, the logos/branding is always on point. For releases that came out decades before Spice Girls even existed. I wish that level of attention to detail was put into Spice Girls products.

I do wonder why they can't/don't access the original fonts. If it's a case of can't, is it because there wasn't proper archiving going on at Virgin? That was such an oversight... so many other artists must have stuff properly archived, typical that they seemingly didn't for the Spice Girls. They even have difficulties with sourcing original photoshoots, apparently. For the 2019 tour stuff, the design team actually bought old Spice stuff from eBay to use as inspiration...

Oh well, clearly it won't be rectified. All I can say is I shall nervously wait and see what the designers come up with for 'Spice'...!

* When it comes to Headlines and Greatest Hits, I remember reading someone saying that it seemed to them that the 'SPICE' logo was scanned and photoshopped to be used for those covers. I'm almost surprised the designers went to that effort to get the original logo for those artworks, though they did cut corners with the font used for 'Girls' and the titles.

Oh I get it, didnt mean to sound bitter or spitefull

Personally, it doesnt bother me too much. I actually quite liked the Headlines and Greatest Hits logos. They werent perfect, but they were fair 'updates'. I do agree that the most recent logos, specially around the Spiceworld tour and these, were somewhat lacking, in my opinion too.

I'm just super happy we are getting Feed Your Love to be honest. It's such a FAN MOMENT :w00t: Like, we been asking for this for ages. We even asked for the Wannabe celebratory vinyl and we're getting that AND a cassete AND a new digital download B-) I wouldnt be surprised if Wannabe is again remastered or if it is essentially the same file as the Greatest Hits release. I sure hope they could have re-mastered it... But maybe I shouldnt get ahead of myself lol this is already like Christmas in a way

I mean, this time last year we were discussing the possibility of them doing this and then it felt so far fetched that we considered only Spice would get a proper re-release. But we're good.

For me, it's all good. The new logos and overall designs could have been better indeed, but I'll take it this time -_-

Yeah it seems like the cassette could be £12.99 (which is scandalous!!) and possibly £19.99 for the vinyl.

Crazy how much labels continue to push it with prices, this is a lot for singles. Spice Girls single cassettes in the 90s were probably priced between 99p to £2.49, that's typically the range that cassette singles cost. I'm fairly sure the Geri - Ride It picture disc wouldn't have been more than £4.99 at the time, maybe even £3.99. I miss these sort of prices!

These prices are extorntiate, it's unfair on fans.

The main event of this project is definitely Feed Your Love, will be surreal to hear that after so long!

Not sure about remasters, I hope so, but I don't remember the French press release alluding to it, and you'd think they would if it was? Fingers crossed!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed they're somewhat cheaper than that

I quickly threw together concept art for Spice 25, which is roughly along the lines of the Wannabe 25 design - using the new logo, and a picture from the album photoshoot:

I actually wouldn't be mad if they used that picture for the front cover, if they really do end up disregarding the old logo.

After creating this, I still can't warm to this new logo. I understand that they've gone with silver because it's the 25th anniversary, but it looks bland imo. :kink: Nevertheless I used it to be cohesive with Wannabe 25. I had to include the Spice ring though - surely that's too iconic to get rid of? (I did initially try and design this using text for the Spice title, but to me it looked so clunky having 'Spice' on the cover twice!)

my (horrible) thinking is, they'll announce NEXT f***in week.

"Wow can't believe it had been 2 years since our incredible Wembley Show! now We're pleased to announce to #Wannabe25 project!"

I still think whatever it's just a logo or font, I mean Forever has a completely different font it makes no difference.

For this release for me the main thing was to give us something new or different and Feed your love/Wannabe demo is just that.

I'd rather have dodgy cover and new songs than perfect cover and Wannabe and bumper to bumper again.

I bet the announcement isnt this week because Emma is promoting her f***ing book

Typical  Solo projects always colliding with group stuff <_<

As per usual with these girls... Like, Emma is doing the rounds of press and her book is released on Thursday. At best, the girls will announce it either Thursday or next week now.

<_<

Like I said after the leak they were thinking of announcing really close to the anniversary if not the anniversary and using the hype and maybe the girls themselves.

Casual and some die hard fans will not be buying the Wannabe vinyl for one new song. Especially if it is announced on July 8, one day before Feed Your Love is on Spotify. I highly doubt the girls will promote this vinyl beyond social media posts. It's really stupid not to have a pre-order available by now.
