It's doing pretty much in line as with all these releases - heavily frontloaded with decreasing sales as the week goes on. Still, around 7-8k could be possible so that's good.

I think you have to remember how difficult for acts like them to shift 6k in 3 days for rereleases of albums. It's doing well! I'd say it will be a comfortable Top10, with hope that it stays Top5

How many copies did Melanie C sell in the first week? I mean, still proves the Spice fanbase is still there if one day they decide to release something (worth it).

It's on 6.1k at #3 on the Monday midweek, who wouldn't have taken that when it was announced?

 

It's sales might have slowed but this isn't the kind of release where the artist or label are desperate and going to be reducing it to £4.99 or signing things till they have arthritis or doing silly acoustic gigs where you get an album for an extra 5 quid on a gig ticket.

 

It's 6.1k on the Monday midweek with the average copy costing £25 and no expense of all the costs of an artist going radio to radio, TV show to TV show to flog it.

I don’t agree with the silly acoustic part. Some of my (indie) faves do that and they’re as good as the SG. Actually, let’s not try to find excuses, I was expecting bigger numbers.

Really you thought it would do more? I predicted 9k so maybe a little more but you have to look at the album market too it's at absolute rock bottom. Ed who is 2nd only to Adele is on 84k today, he's the 2nd biggest artist in the world and he might make 150k if lucky. Also the last album to sell 1m copies was his no.6 collaboration project.

There is no way this was ever going to do much more than 10-15k - especially with the only CD version being over £25.

You’re right. But I thought that the multi formats were going to help delivering at least 15K. Streaming is again the main problem I guess. I can’t wait to see the physical chart - the only one that matters to me.

Yeah agree. We musnt forget that this is mainly fan-service. Barely any casuals will pick up a copy of a £29 CD on HMV.

 

Really wish they had done a 1-CD edition, maybe a cardboard one, for casual buyers. Ah well...

If it has done 6.1 already i think they will safely stay top 10, just a question of how high they can hold up and all going well they have more sales to come.

It would be good if the Top 5 success spurred them on to give a new album a go. I think they fear a fourth studio album flopping and need to see success like this to get motivated.

It's unclear as well if the Friday missing sales from HMV include their HMV pre-orders as that is the day they would normally be added in to the data and chart.

I think a Top5 would be great to be honest.

Obviously hope that Elton doesnt overtake but if they get a Top5 I think that's a success.
