too bad England's not playing again until Friday then

Two matches in that chart week so potentially a double boost!

#2 would be my guess... maybe around 500-600k

Three Lions '98 is #71 with 83k, so combined they are #2 with 573k - called it! :magic:

I think these are new peaks on Spotify for Fat Les and New Order? (They got to 23 and 24 on the day 'Three Lions' peaked in 2018).

Also in the top 200 (assume all are football-related):

#124: Gala - Freed from Desire

#148: 442 - Come On England

#150: Shakira - Waka Waka

#166: The Jam - Town Called Malice

#167: Ant & Dec - We're On The Ball

#169: The Fratellis - Chelsea Dagger

#189: The Verve - Bitter Sweet Symphony

Probably because the England matches are in England is why we are seeing quite the boost for these songs.

HH added a few songs, including Mimi Webb-Dumb Love, Willow-Transparent

and the Doja Cat nonsingle (Need to Know) ;)

Come On England by 442 is an absolute bop, thank you very much!

1-0, 2-0, 3-0, 4-0, 5 :cheeseblock:

Must have had some high playlist placement though, I don't think I've heard it since 2004

but Freed from Desire is also now a football song?

sadly all these football songs doing well on Spotify like Waka waka, are doing nothing on Apple, Waka Waka is like 700-ish in there

It sort of become a football song after the whole ‘will grigs on fire’ phase as it’s sang to the tune of ‘freed from desire’ 😂

Totally here for that re-charting. Well you never get a song as much as a bop as that in the Christmas dirge. :w00t:

I get your point, I feel the same about Xmas songs, I hate Xmas music and would never ever listen to any Xmas song

and seeing it clogging the charts for 3 months every year and also always the same songs and in the exact order as they are in the playlist

it's excruciating to see

but I thing the football songs is ok cos it's not every year and not 3 months either

and also it's basically Three Lions and maybe Vindaloo and World in Motion

if only people would stream Waka Waka!!!

Pretty much my thoughts exactly, although I wouldn't say I hated most popular Christmas music, just its ubiquity. The complete clogging of the charts with old festive favourites making the December charts a write off every single year is far more irritating than a couple of football songs reappearing once every two years and only depending on England's performance. This Christmas streaming effect seems to be getting bigger and earlier every year as well. I wouldn't be surprised if we ended up with a Top 10 entirely comprised of 20+ year old Christmas songs with perhaps a charidee record in there for good measure.

It's a side note but honestly to say the Christmas #1 has this reputation for been the most highly anticipated and important of the year, for a good chunk of my lifetime it has been by far one of the most boringly predictable weeks, what with all the years of generic X Factor winners singles before the current situation.

Interesting list. Ant & Dec are a bit of a surprise, thought that was a bit of a forgotten one.

I always find it very strange that Waka Waka only ever got to #21 as well. From the time of the 2010 World Cup, I remember all three of Shout/Wavin Flag & Waka Waka been pretty massive and everywhere but while the others made #1 and #2, on paper Waka Waka looks like a mid table flop. Yet it's easily the most remembered of them as well as this shows.

Megan thee Stallion's new single has entered the Top 200 (at #196). It's something

On Spotify? I'm not seeing it.
