Today I found myself thinking: in an era where songs can not hit the top 100 but still rack up 100s of millions o streams, there must be some tracks that have never charted that have racked up pretty incredible sales!

Does anyone know what the top-selling song(s) to not chart is?

I think someone said on this Forum a while back that it's You Make My Dreams Come True by Hall & Oates? Might be wrong though.

My other shouts would be Bon Iver - Skinny Love & Johnny Cash - Ring Of Fire but I've no idea on their sales.

I figure someone will have a more up to date list, but here's an answer from a previous thread on this exact topic:

Seven songs have been certified Platinum without reaching the Top 100:

Arctic Monkeys - Mardy Bum

Daryl Hall & John Oates - You Make My Dreams

Dwayne Johnson - You're Welcome

J. Cole - No Role Modelz

Oasis - Champagne Supernova

Post Malone - White Iverson

Queen - We Will Rock You

All but 'We Will Rock You' have been mentioned already. 'You Make My Dreams' went from Gold to Platinum in just 9 months (February 2018 - November 2018) so will easily pass 1m this year, becoming the first non-charting song to do so!

Ah yes that was the thread I must have remembered it from. Oops at forgetting Champagne Supernova though :')
any reason why the Hall & Oates song is so popular?

Love to see Champagne Supernova listed here! 🔥💯Shame they never released it as an official UK single back in 1996.

Also bangers from Arctic Monkeys, Hall & Oates, Post Malone & Queen!

Reckon Olivia could enter this list in a couple of years
Wasnt Queen's We Will Rock You the Double-A side to We Are the Champions which got to No. 2?

It would have been huge as a single but it's done so well as it is.

How has We Will Rock You never charted?! Was it not released as a single in the UK?

as mentioned above it was the b-side to We are the Champions in the UK

in other countries like the US and EU it was a double A-side but not in the UK

later of course it was a #1 for 5ive & Queen though

It would have been huge as a single but it's done so well as it is.

If they had released it as a single to coincide with Knebworth it would have been massive.

There was a BBC News article about this only a few weeks ago. John Oates himself seems to think that it was its inclusion of "500 Days of Summer" that turned it into a streaming titan.

So they could have charted if people had bought the new vinyl version this year! I kind of feel it's more special to sell a million without ever charting.

I'm quite shocked We Will Rock You has never charted, wow, such an iconic track!

There's an error in the BBC article. It says of 'You Make My Dreams' "although it was never released as a single in the UK" which is wrong. It was released as a single in June 1981 (40 years ago last week to be exact, 19 June 1981), but failed to chart despite decent airplay.
