In this day and age labels shouldn't bother picking singles in advance. Only with pop stars and maybe most dance artists they need to do that. With rap artists the public always choose the singles. It might be that way with rock bands too if Maneskin are anything to go by.

 

Like with Pop Smoke's album for example, I don't know why they chose something before release. They could have just waited a week or two to tell Radio 1 what to playlist. His current single might be ineligible to chart the whole time now lol.

I'm not really expecting Ain't Shit to get much of a push at any stage, it's not exactly radio friendly (and they literally didn't bother making a clean edit for Spotify unlike every other song on Doja's album). It might manage a certain level of success on its own but unless they actually get a suitable edit, it's got a bit of a ceiling.

This Pop Smoke album really reminds me a lot of XXXTENTACION's 'Bad Vibes Forever', seems to have pissed off most of his fanbase due to there being too much label meddling with adding features from artists he never had any connection to before and replacing instrumentals from previously leaked songs with more watered down commercially friendly ones etc. It's even being publicly slammed on social media by several of the producers who worked with him during his lifetime. I could see 'Demeanor' ending up still being a hit from appealing beyond the fanbase (i.e. to mainstream audiences who probably don't even know who Pop Smoke was) but the album overall is almost definitely not going to have anywhere near the success / staying power of the previous album which was at least generally received to have been handled in good faith and a bit less of a blatant cash grab. I'd guess the previous album will actually end up being back ahead of 'FAITH' in the albums chart within a few weeks.

 

Curious to see that KSI's highest charting album track is 'No Time' rather than 'Number 2' - 'No Time' is actually also pretty deep into the tracklist (track 12) similarly to 'Demeanor' on the Pop Smoke album, I guess it must have had some kind of pre-release buzz? (I can't see it just being a case of people being super desperate to hear Lil Durk on a KSI song :lol:) A strong showing for the KSI album anyway with all of its tracks in the top 75.
