Genuine question: Does anyone think England will win the tournament?

It really depends if Spain can pull a rabbit out of a hat against Italy. :o :magic:

I do think we have a very good chance (can't believe I'm saying that!) but I have to agree I just can't see any way we'd beat Italy out of who's left.
Genuine question: Does anyone think England will win the tournament?

I actually do. The team are good and deserve it.

However, very unpopular opinion, I feel like England winning the tournament is something the UK doesn’t need right now. For completely non football related reasons but it’s just how I feel.

I know exactly what you mean. A large part of me would feel uncomfortable about a victory for the only team whose supporters boo their opponents' anthem and with supporters who can post unpleasant tweets about a young German girl crying when her team lost. And that's before Johnson's triumphalism over a sport he doesn't care about and gloating from Quitters as if EU membership was even slightly relevant.

That's quite harsh though, yes England have some knobhead fans but name me any national team that doesn't!? There are certain parts of football culture I really disagree with e.g. showing disrespect and not signing about your own team but the majority of England fans are just normal people.

I missed most of the game as it was quite dull and I was up and about dancing around a beer garden like a lunatic but from what I saw we played very well. Denmark will be a much harder game buk Ukraine had no answers to our set up and Kane looks to be starting a purple patch which bodes well for the rest of the week!

I don’t see how it’s harsh if it’s the way people feel. The very worst people will be unbearable with it, something we’ve already seen with Brexit and the last GE.

I’ll take your word for it that every single other team has as many knobhead fans as England. Not yet seen the evidence for this given the booing anthems thus far appears to be an England fan problem but at the end of the day we don’t really have to put up with other knobhead fans they way we do with England ones.

I like the team and they’re playing really well and I hope they win because of how hard they’re working. But I also acknowledge that a win will result in already awful people feeling vindicated and being generally more awful.

Apart from a couple of sloppy moments from Pickford and Walker, England were superb. We were ruthless in front of goal, ruthless in possession and excellent work rate all round. Exactly the sort of performance we needed against a plucky team like Ukraine. Hardly got out of second gear, didn’t need to use the likes of Foden and Grealish, and had the luxury to make so many subs and rest players after 65 minutes, absolutely Perfect for Gareth Southgate.

Fairly confident we’ll beat Denmark. Will be tough of course, but they looked absolutely f***ed at the end of the Czech Republic game.

Of course but it subsides. I'm unbearable if Liverpool win a big game, if England win the Euros it will be crazy for a week and then it will die down and people will forget about it. Sure it will get mentioned a lot in the media.

I just find there is a lot of generalisations with England fans. The booing is abhorrent, but it's a small minority of the Ultras and you'll find every country has Ultras and when the national team comes, most of these idiots find a way to put their club rivalries aside. This current crop of England players are some of the most socially aware players in the world. Just winds me up that supporting England means you're a Brexit loving Tory in the eyes of some people because of a few meffs that boo a national anthem.

The contrast between the players (and manager) and a section of supporters is huge. While it is, of course, true that every country has its share of knobheads, only English "fans" have been heard booing their opponents' anthem. Whether other countries have as many fans posting xenophobic rubbish on (anti-)social media as England, I don't know but I suspect not.

Depends how you define "deserves"?

Sport isnt a charity, they dont give the prize to the most deserving, you win on merit or not at all.

They have two hard games left, anything can happen, a sending off, injury to a key player, a dodgy pen/deflected goal against them, etc.

Denmark shouldnt be underestimated.

Denmark are far, far better than Ukraine. I think Italy are the best team, but at this point England are the favourites. Home advantage and it's noticeable now imo how players are starting to tire due to the long domestic season. England of course are not immune to this either, but a lot of the spine have not played as much domestically and we've exterted the least amount of energy. Italy have also lost Spinazzola which is massive for them. If Spain had a half decent striker I'd probably fancy them to spring an upset.

A lot of managers have complained about the format and the amount of travelling they have had to do. With that in mind, it is interesting that all four semi-finalists played all three of their group matches at home. Denmark, thanks to a trip to Baku (which is in Asia) have travelled the most while England have clocked up the fewest miles.
I will be looking forward to it returning to its familiar one or two country format in 2024, think it’s back in Germany which will be class of the 2006 World Cup was anything to go by!
Some ratings news from around Europe: Out of four quarter-finals England vs Ukraine was last place when it comes to market share in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Germany and The Netherlands. Besides UK and Ukraine the match was only in Russia at top of market share.
