Posting this thread to confirm deductions. Late votes were received from Aesthetica, they will have a 15% deduction. No votes from either Zaminton or Bhangra, each will have 33% deduction applied to their score.

See y'all later, the show will start at/just after 5pm.

I actually thought yours sounded like a fairly safe qualifier this month, surprised that it's had DNQ predictions.

Welcome to the Semi Final Results – When They Cry!

The results have been counted. I believe they’re verified – let’s hope, I checked all the PMs twice. Now it’s time to reveal. How far have the horses run? How well have the zombies sung? And most importantly, how will I reveal? How?

“If there is a gun hanging on the wall in the first act, it must fire in the last.” – Anton Chekhov

Just going to invoke the Chek by saying that the order of reveal in this semi-final results order will be decided by the anime character assigned to your banner, something that otherwise served no purpose. In that we’re going to go a series/franchise at a time, starting with those who had the most represented, and qualify or eliminate everyone associated with that. So if you know your anime you’ll have an advantage there. If not, start looking at who had a similar artstyle to your character to guess who you’re grouped with. I covered some in the reveal thread but I’ll also give all the reasons as to why I chose these characters in the commentary – writing irrelevant tat about cartoon characters gives me energy.

The great advantage of doing so is that there could be a series completely full of qualifiers, or completely full of DNQs, or anything in between, because all the draws have been ‘pre-chosen’ (to an extent, I did editorialise the order and where to combine series that only had one or two characters). I believe most with multiple entries will have at least one of both kinds though. I might start specifying when we get down to later ones, but at least for the first ones, which have the most characters, I won’t give specific numbers.

As before, we’ve got a couple of emblems to watch out for. I didn’t prepare any examples this time. However, you’ll see them soon enough. 適 + Q will mean qualified, 適 is ‘teki’, a kanji used as part of adjectives for words like ‘suitable/qualified/capable’ etc. Could have also perhaps used 選 ‘sen’, but for these purposes I think this works, let's not be pedantic in a language very few people here (at best) speak.

Meanwhile, for the non-qualifiers, I’m going to slip in 不 + NQ. 不 is ‘bu’ (Chinese) or ‘fu’ (Japanese), and it is the principle negative hanzi in Chinese, which is the context I most often think of it in. In Japanese it’s mostly used in negative compound words like ‘unhappiness – fukou’, or ‘injustice – fusei’. Those two words might be of use to you if you haven’t made it through.

適 + Q – qualified
不 + NQ – not qualified

Finally, a fun fact for you to ponder before we begin, in both semis, the song that finished 20th received the same amount of points, and the two songs that finished 21st also received the same number of points. Therefore the qualifying threshold and gap between 20th and 21st is exactly equal.

Let's start you off with how this will work by going over to the stables:

Uma Musume

The horse show that named Semi 1, we have 4 true horses, 3 trojan horses (i.e. because 3 were in Semi Z – though, fairly aptly, the focus characters of Season 1 were in Semi 1 and the focus characters of Season 2 were in Semi 2 – though as the far as the ‘rivals’ went, Singerpurear was more of a Season 1 character and Harmonica more of a Season 2 one so not quite perfect). How many of these will qualify, and how many will we be leaving back in the stands?

First up:

Lookylion, assigned Special Week because ‘No One Else’ basically means special.

St. Burbia, assigned Tokai Teio just for the sheer quality of her hero’s story (IMO).

Rolloland, assigned Mejiro McQueen for her running power.

Sovarasma, assigned Silence Suzuka because of an injury arc for ‘Heal Me’.

Danaeviia, assigned Gold Ship for their Golden Hour

Harmonica, assigned Rice Shower because of the similarities between Black Atlass and ‘Black Assassin.

Singerpurear, assigned El Condor Pasa because, like Banderas, it’s also a Hispanic-sounding name.

Coming up next, their fates.

I’m not entirely sure where the chips are gonna fall with my entry, like last night I was like “yeah I don’t think it’s making it through with all these pop voters” but I listened to the semi and kinda gained 5% of that confidence back? We’ll see, I hope the great result in BBUS was a good omen

The two ‘horse protagonists’ are through! Congratulations to Lookylion and St. Burbia who will take the first two qualifying slots.

The two deuteragonists are also through! Rolloland and Sovarasma will also be joining us in the final.

Ooooo excited for this, even though I’m 90% sure I’m DNQing. Love the little explanations of why you’ve assigned the characters
Oops I’m a bit distracted making dinner at the moment so this will get my full attention after, but very happy about the Rolloland/Sovarasma Q pairing so far

Zany comedienne extraordinaire Gold Ship is through and Danaeviia with her. Unfortunately it is the end of the road for Harmonica and Singerpurear, who fell short. Harmonica scored 37 points, finishing 22nd in Semi Final H, and Singerpurear scored 29 points, finishing 29th in Semi Final Z.

5/7 for the horses. Scores noted down in the fields, sweet grass served tonight for the winners.
