October 10, 20213 yr Just want to say that I really didn't like the Spice Girls when I was 5...or 15, but by 25 I got much more appreciation, and a good half of those still to come are great #1's.
October 10, 20213 yr My 2 faves 90s boyband's songs already out MMMBop and Keep on Movin' but TOO MUCH Spice Girls still to come. :teresa: I can see the appeal of their other number 1 singles still to come but Too Much is awful.
October 10, 20213 yr Abba-esque is quite uneven. Take a Chance On Me is very grating. The other 3 are amazing. SOS is some of Vince's best synth work. Andy and Vince talk ABBA https://www.classicpopmag.com/2021/09/erasure-abba-esque/ Edited October 10, 20213 yr by Colm
October 10, 20213 yr Yes it’s so annoying how it’s Take a Chance On Me that gets remembered these days, all because it had that video. It’s the clear weak link on the ep.

October 10, 20213 yr Yes it’s so annoying how it’s Take a Chance On Me that gets remembered It's the one that ended up on compilations too.
October 10, 20213 yr Ebeneezer Goode is fantastic! Always find it hilarious that it reached #1 during the BBC"s drug awareness week. Pleasantly surprised to see Fly Away this high up as well, glad it gets some other appreciation.
October 10, 20213 yr It's not really a surprise that Take A Chance On Me was the breakout from the Abba-Esque EP MC KINKY
October 10, 20213 yr Fly Away was the first Lenny Kravitz song I ever heard as a kid, to this day I'm still amazed it was a UK #1  A shame most of his other singles didn't do nearly as well in the charts. Also, late, but I see nothing wrong with there being 6 Spice Girls songs remaining!
October 11, 20213 yr The Fly is great and so is 90's U2, loved that they went experimental, and saw them at Wembley Stadium. Epic. Baby D is a goodie, I'll Be Pissing You is just dreary, taking a dark stalker classic and turning into a tribute to one half of the east coast/west coast gang violence figureheads. An attack on gangs and violence and guns would have been more appropriate. Still, Puff Daddy got publicly and noticeably rich afterwards... Ebeneezer Goode is not worthy of Move Any Mountain, over-rated where the latter is under-rated. Eternal were just awful. Not just chucking out bad records, they were out of tune, poor songs, and consistently bad bar one or two tolerable hits. Only One is among their least bad, and it's still one I turn off immediately when it annoyingly keeps cropping up on oldies radio. Fugees. Fab. That's how you take a classic oldie and revamp it and do it justice. Mmmmbop - still joyous! Abba-esque not among my fave Erasure, not a patch on the originals and yes Take A Chance On Me is the worst track and best video. Fly Away is a goodie. Re: Spice Girls, I was 38 :P Great pop music, at least the first few singles. Started with a global bang and became iconic for the decade.
October 11, 20213 yr Don't think Eternal were THAT bad, I kinda liked a bunch of their singles, especially Don't you Love me and Someday
October 11, 20213 yr I Wanna Be The Only One was a great single, it's up there with Mary Mary Shackles as a 90s track that exudes joy and can really cheer me up.
October 11, 20213 yr Oh dear, lost two records I rated highly, Earth Song and Eternal's I Wanna Be The Only One (which I gave 28 and 23 points to respectively!) Personally I loved Eternal, I thought they had some great songs that I loved in the 90s and that I still come back to quite often - and I totally agree that I Wanna Be The Only One is a song full of joy that never fails to put me in a good mood - got to love those key changes near the end! I had originally given MmmBop a couple of points but had no longer any room for it when I finalised my top 30 - so just narrowly missed out on my top 30 (you could say it was my no.31). A brief word on two recent dropouts that I voted for: Let Me Be Your Fantasy still sounds great and uplifting, while I have always loved Country House. Sacrifice is a beautiful song but I didn't have any room for it in my final top 30. Same goes for Show Me Heaven.
October 11, 20213 yr Spice Girls are very overrated. Shampoo and Kenickie were "true Girl Power" and the best girl groups of 90s generation. Edited October 11, 20213 yr by Last Dreamer
